i hear stories all the time of people having an amazing relationship with some one online. be it a best friend and in some cases even love. i just don't understand how people develop such close personal relationships with people online. i feel so distant from everyone on the internet it just doesn't make any sense how these relationships form? almost like all of you people don't really exist!

It's the same way people develop friendships online. To me, the people I talk to online are just as real as the people I talk to face-to-face. Just because they're behind a computer screen doesn't make them any less of a real person. And naturally, if you talk a lot with people online, you'll develop personal friendships with them too.

Face to face relationships and online relationships, what do they have in common?
Communication!

Communication is the key to the start of anything like forming friendships and relationships. It comes in ways like through words or verbally through your voice. That is the starting of a bond. Although the real world is different from the internet, people have their own ways of comfort and expression in their own ways which brings out different sides of people. Everyone just has their own preferences whether you like it or hate it.

Remember. you are talking to us right now which is setting some of bond between the people replying to your thread. Hey, you will never know what will happen. Maybe you will form close friendships on Vizzed. Experiences may change your perspective.

Personality.

Similar likes and interests.

Then without images of one another to go along with it, our beautiful mind begins fantasizing that they must not only look beautiful, but that they live somewhere near us.

Our mind loves to play tricks on us, particularly when we're desperate.

My advice would be to avoid it altogether. I thought I was hopeless, and I found a girl. IRL. And I was worried it may take years.

Your chances really are better IRL, unless your using a dating site or something. Something I'm sortof skeptical of.

Someone70 and ghostfishy got it right. I actually met my best friend online as well, and that friendship has no limits on sharing etc. And despite the lack of physical contact and interaction we both know one another better than anyone else --imcluding our own families!

Also I have many other close friends I've met online. In fact one of them posted directly above me

(ghostfishy : PUDDING TIME!!!! ragefu Also I said nice things about you

Yay me!)
Several of my best friends I met through vizzed in fact, including some that I didn't randomly summon here.

Furthermore I've seen people I know fall in love over the internet, and I myself have done it. Emotions and words have no physical limitations.

Think of it like a loved one sending you a text that says "I love you": will that mean nothing to you just because it's not said face to face? Of course it still means something, and that's because words and emotions again are not bound by physical distance.

I suppose the best answer to this though would be this: pick someone on Vizzed --anyone with any simillar interests-- start talking to them through PM, and see if you don't end up feeling any sort of friendly connection after say three months.

And hey, maybe not everyone can feel connected online, I just know I can and often do. Hopefully this answers your question, or at least offers you an amusing glimpse at the mind of a crazy man (me).

Whoo, the internets. I met the person who knows more about me than anyone - on the internet. Also met my wife on the internet. Still married, been close to 15 years. Of course it helps to see each other and find out they are not a millionaire kick boxer or an ax murderer.

Everyone on the internet is fake to me.  It's all a game and if someone takes me seriously and maybe improves their lives, good for them.  Otherwise none of this is really real.  It's a shame.  I go outside and I see real people and there you go.

I'm in the same boat with you.

The internet can be a great place to meet people because it is a free flow of ideas and you can find people who like very specific things just the way you like very specific things.  That way you can find new things to talk about and build relationships.

It's all about the words.  I think people eventually decide to call, Skype, or meet face to face after they decide they like each other enough online.  Online allows a personality to shine through.

Let's see, on how people start relationships online, it's easy. Just look like a complete weirdo and use photoshop to make yourself look like a celebrity, and that is basically on what people does on dating websites. Always trust the internet when it comes to dating.
If you use a video dating like Skype, then that's a different story because you can see what that person is.

The best thing is to say that "I am a [insert your age] weirdo that loves to get an interesting love of my life".

Put the IBism aside and tell you the truth, Online sucks, use the traditional way of face to face in real life.

You just go ahead and meet them and let nature take its course. If that cant be done then you just forget about any kind of a real relationship to be there to begin with. That is the way I say it. If the other person lies about absolutely anything that is on the profile that is plain and obvious for you to see, then run.

Well I have to say, there are a lot of interesting contradictions between people on this thread so far...

As for me, I tend to just find people who like similar things as me and start chatting, that's how I found my current significant other and also another person I trust more than anyone (except said significant other).  This has also led me to people who, like previous people in here have said, have lied about themselves and certain things, but to be honest my policy is "give someone a chance, let them have a chance to be honest, and if they aren't then they aren't worth the trouble."

Currently me and my significant other have never seen each other face to face except through Skype, but that doesn't stop us from loving each other all the same.  On the Internet, you don't see the person most times, true, but then you have their personality that you get to know, and as someone else said, emotions and such are not bound to being able to see the person.  Simply put, online relationships and friendships are just like a long distance relationship by phone, which has been known to work before, so why can't online ones work as well?

Just putting my two cents in here, and if anyone has anything to say about what I have said please do, I'm genuinely curious what everyone might think about what I put here.

Well if it's at all possible to meet them in real life there is a huge chance of relationship success. You can get to know somebody online talking to them everyday, once you meet them in person it makes it so much better. A lot of relationships online are set up for failure because the other person isn't looking for what you want in the relationship but there is always some very great cases where you want the same thing and your 100% mean't to be together. I myself have found somebody I want to spend the rest of my life with. When you find some body that wants the same things as you and has the same intentions plus there is a chance to be together in real life there is a huge chance of success.

Starting a relationship online can be fairly easy if both people love to talk, and actually want to get to know another. Relationships are built on the foundation of friendship. It's started off by meeting on the internet, whether it's a dating site, forum, etc. You introduce yourselves, talk about what is most important in your lives, and get to know each other. It seems impossible until it is actually done. Trust is a very big factor, you have to trust each other a lot. I met my first boyfriend online. We started off talking through text on the website. It was just small talk, and getting to know our interests/personality. We discussed our future goals, what we wanted out of life, and everything in depth. Before long, we started dating... We met in person, and it went well. It didn't end well since he wasn't as committed as I was. But, I feel like it is no different than starting relationships in person. It's the same concepts really... other than it is, digital? Lol.

I wonder sometimes too. I can't even start a relationship in real life, how much more online? haha

To me, relationships are really beautiful. Whether it started online or if it's in real life. It's a connection between 2 people -who created a bond over words, similar interests and who continue to create memorable experiences together.

I know that a lot of people do this nowadays...but for me it just seems strange to completely function in a "relationship" Online. I guess I'm old school. I don't always agree with using a dating site just to MEET someone, not just only having a relationship online with someone.

My main problem is that people can say or do whatever they want online. They can be who they want to be, say what they want to say, etc. In real life, it's kinda hard to completely just fool someone with nothing but lies when you are face to face with someone. Only someone REALLY good at lying would be able to fool you for an extended period of time.

I also kinda compare meeting someone online to meeting someone at the bar/club/etc. Very rarely to meaningful and worthwhile relationships come out of those types of circumstances. At least in my opinion.

Jordanv78 : of course there are fakes on the Internet... as in real life. Maybe the "distance" provided by the cyberspace increases the exaggeration, but in order to have a lasting relationship there needs to be at least a bit of honesty. Otherwise it might not even end up in a one-night stand.

As a word of advice, DON'T.

I wrote a few reasons why not here:

Others have great reasons for or against too but people say no.

As for a real answer to your question, try dating sites, hell any message board or online game. It isn't hard at all. Just don't stumble onto the creeps who pose as a hot chick hahahaha
