What languages can you speak?

Are you bilingual or even trilingual? Can you speak 4 languages?

My friend can speak English, French, German and Spanish.

Wow!

That makes 4.

But another friend can speak Russian, Chinese, English and is learning Italian!

What about you?

I'm learning French, and will continue learning it for the next year and half. In two years from now, I'll be going to London and Paris for about a week (Yeah, l panned way ahead). Whenever I get the chance, I want to start learning Japanese. If possible, I'll try to find a community coarse of which may be useful. (^w^)

I actually speak 3 languages. Canadian, merfian, and sleep-drunkedness.

In all seriousness, though, I speak English, VERY little Spanish, and VERY little french. I speak more Haitian Creole than the average Joe, but that's not necessarily saying much either.

I speak Dutch and English fluently, I'm on my 8th year of learning French, so I'd say I speak French rather good.

I'm also on my 6th year of Latin, but that's not really spoken anywhere nor can I translate an entire English text into a Latin text. I can translate words and simple sentences, but not the wikipedia kind of talk.

Right now, I speak English, very little Spanish, very little German, very little Japanese, and a bit of Chinese. I'm not fluent in any language other than English. I learned Spanish and German for 4 years in the middle school, but once I started high school and decided to learn Chinese, my knowledge on the former two dropped. Since I enjoy hearing a lot of anime songs and vocaloid songs (most of them happened to be Japanese), in addition to watching anime and Japanese drama, I picked up some Japanese words and phrases and learned them. Right now, I am still learning Chinese, currently on my second year of Chinese class.

In high school I studied Spanish for four years. But then I forgot it.
I also taught myself the Korean and Russian letters. But then I forgot them.
I also took Chinese for half a semester in college and Sanskrit for two semesters (learning the Devanagari script at the same time). I've since forgotten most of that.

I also majored in Japanese. I never became completely fluent, but I'm like 65% fluent I'd say. So it's Japanese and English for me.

Currently, Spanish, English and Catalan, all three very fluently.

I learned French in school, but never on a serious level. I'm planning on learning it in the near future, alongside Italian, German, Japanese and maybe Russian. French because it's my neighbouring country, Italian because it's very similar to Spanish, German because my cousin's wife is of that nationality, Japanese because anime, and Russian because lately I see it everywhere. Some people say I should take on Chinese too, but I have no personal interest in it. Maybe when I'm done with the rest, out of boredom.

I am taking Spanish Level 2. But next year I'm going to take Tagalog. I do not know if I'm bilingual or even trilingual, so only time will tell.

I actually had to learn Korean and Simplified Chinese to beta test Dragon Ball Online. I learned Spanish and Portuguese from a online friend I had bad in 2007. That makes four I suppose.

I can speak 7 languages, fluently. English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin and Cantonese. That would make me a Polyglot, no?
I actually want to learn Italian, because it seems fun.
I really just know them because I take great joy in learning and knowing a great deal of languages.

maguc : Watashi mo nihongo o hanasu.  Anatawa sorera notano gengo o manabi mas***a basho?

I have a wee little bit of Japanese from Hawaii (and going to Japan on a few trips), a ton of Spanish and I am a native English speaker.  I love language and all the things it can do.  Other cultures and their languages have some of the coolest phrases that English doesn't have.  It was also great fun to know some basic Japanese when the Japanese came over because they were so busy trying their English.  I remember running down an "UP" escalator and trying not to bowl over Japanese girls.  I was shouting "Sumimasen!" in a high pitched voice and they were laughing.  It means, "Excuse me."

They loved it when my wife and I tried to speak.  They loved trying their English on us even more.  We had little kids in Kyoto run up to us to say, "Hello," and "How are you?" and we'd answer them the way their school first conversation went.  It was great.

I was also an interpreter of Spanish in the Marine Corps and my wife speaks it at the hospital a lot.

I love communication.  Speaking other languages is the natural progression of that passion.

Wow looks like there are some talented multilingual people here. Not surprising I guess, these kinds of boards do have smarter people. I'm glad I'm not talking to total meatheads here like some bodybuilding boards lol.

warmaker : That's true dude. I Can vouch. If you are a foreigner (particularly white) and go over to more affluent Asian countries, you can easily have swarms of giggly young women and even guys smile and pose for pictures with you. They will try to conversate with you in broken engrish but it is a great experience regardless. I'm Chinese so people think I'm just one of them but once I open my mouth they know and it's almost like people overseas are fascinated by the English language. They get even more excited if you start speaking in different accents. Some guy literally asked me how many years I had to train to speak English in different accents lol.

I personally can speak English and Cantonese Chinese fluently. I can order and count in Vietnamese and kind of make out what people are talking about. My level of Spanish is about the same as Vietnamese. I can understand half of what is said in Mandarin Chinese. My goals in the future is be fluent in Spanish and Japanese and maybe Hangul. I really should be better with Spanish since I live next to TJ.

As for body language...I can read perfectly what a lady wants

Finnish, English, Swedish and French. Finnish and English are though the only languages I can have any real conversations in. Maybe also in Swedish if the other person is a toddler. Or I don't know. I understand it well enough if I read it but have really hard time speaking it or understanding it when spoken to me. French I only mention because I studied it for five years and did not learn anything worth while.

Well, English is the other language I speak. I used to speak Spanish as well, and I was able to understand and be understood, but I wouldn't consider myself a Spanish Speaker, you know... although it is easier given that my first language is Portuguese.

I speak Dutch at school, French at home (I suck at French .), English on the internet and in my mind (I rarely talk french/dutch in my mind... All my dreams are english...), and I'm trying to learn japanese! :3

On the other hand, I have a spanish book in my house, and I'd love to also learn italian and german :3
That's my goal. Them three languages...

So in the end, I speak two languages in real life, and two on internet soon :3
I find german harder than japanese
