Nier, for 360 (and PS3 I believe). Uhh, lets not spoil the story.  You can save someone but have to die for them and its like you never existed. The game shows you what happens if you were never born, and then deletes your save file!

I'm a guy, that literally cries at dragon ball, (Well, i'm not like BWAAH BWAAH) but there are some tears. But I never ever cried at a game.. Maybe that's weird, But I don't play a lot of games with that much story, I'm more of a platform and fighting game guy. 

So, never ever been sad at a game in that regard.. However. I have been sad not getting through countless levels in countless games, Me weird.

For me it would be in Mega Man X4 playing as Zero. Zero is forced to kill his girlfriend and as she dies he says what i'm i fighting for. He then starts to question his mission as a maverick hunter.. It is sad because Zero lost his girlfriend. I can relate to losing a friend. Every time I see that clip it reminds me of how I lost a potential relationship due to friends getting in the way.

My saddest ending in a game would have to go to Shadow of the Colossus, where you are basically killed to try and save your girlfriend, and then get turned into a horned baby, where you are led into a life of persecution, because it leads into Ico, where your character is taken to a castle and locked away just because you are different.

For me Silent Hill 4 was one of the saddest endings.
You had an antagonist you had grown to sympathize with on a deep level.
You felt so bad for everything he had been through, for his entire life.

Honestly, you wanted to hold him, and tell him everything was gonna be ok.
But no.....you had to put him down.
And if you think about, in the end, I think he wanted you to.
Makes it all the sadder for me.

I never heard it talked about as a sad ending by anyone else, but that's how I saw it.

Probably would be in a Fire Emblem game, lol. FE7 has multiple parts to the game, and the saddest part for me would be at the end of one of those parts. It's technically an end to a quest to find Eliwood's dad, but not the end of the game. Basically, there's a really touching conversation as Eliwood finds his dad dying. That game did a really good job at capturing emotions within text, and that's probably the saddest ending I've experienced. To be fair, I haven't exactly become fluent with games that have sad endings, lol.

The ending? It can't be mid game? Drat. 

I'll have to say when Dust dies in Dust: An Elysian Tale. It was a free side scroller earlier this year on XBOX 360 for the Games With Gold Program, and it actually wasn't a half bad game. That ending, though... the feels.

It would definitely have to be the ending of Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. Not because the ending was sad, but because there was no post game. The game itself was very long and enjoyable, but there wasn't anything to do after finishing it. It wouldn't even let you load past the final boss.

I've already replied once to this thread, but I recently beat Silent Hill 2 and I got the "In Water" ending. Unbelievably sad. Such a fantastic game, and it's a fantastic ending, but so..so sad. Anyone else know what I mean?
