I like totdile, the reptile/amphibian usually gets my attention as a starter (Gen 3 is the exception) Totodile is strong in attack, it's design is nice and water types are usually great types over all and it's hard to find a decent one in gen 2 until you get that red gyarados.

I am also going with Totodile. He's pretty powerful, even against gym leaders like Erika and Lightning Surge who should have a big advantage over him, he has a cool design, and he has various attacks or can learn other awesome attacks to help him cover his weaknesses.

My favorite generation two starter would have to be cyndaquil.  It is adorable, and it turns into an amazing fire type that can dish out a lot of damage if used correctly.  It is also a fire type which is my second favorite type in the game, so it has that going for it.

Mine was between Cyndaquil and Totodile. If you're smart, you don't go with Chikorita xD. I chose that the first time I played and it sucked. It was fine at first, but then it was becoming harder and harder to win any gym battles. I still haven't beat Red with it because to be honest I got so mad I quit. I never played with Totodile but my brother did and it looked like a pretty decent Pokémon. Anyway, I decided to play 
Pokémon Gold on Vizzed and I chose Cyndaquil. Amazing decision if I do say so myself . Cyndaquil killed it . I never beat the game though because I got a new computer after smashing my old laptop (Minecraft Problems xD) and my data didn't transfer over. If there's anything I learned, it's that you shouldn't pick the grass type Pokémon. EVER. To finish this off, Cyndaquil is my favorite .
