I've dealt with depression as well and still deal with it a bit. You could take anti-depressants which I just prefer to avoid.

To put it bluntly I can't really find many ways to deal with it except to just go on with your life. I tried to hang out with friends but soon I just couldn't find myself to get out of bed.

The only advice I could possibly give you from experience is either go to a doctor or just keep pushing through it. Eventually things will have to get better.

Sorry if I couldn't be of much more help.

How do I deal with the depression. I am a Christian so when I'm feeling depressed I read my Bible it is a good reminder of my relationship with Jesus my savior. I don't know what your religious beliefs are but that helps me. Now other things I do is read, play video games, take a walk or do things that I enjoy.

If you need someone to talk too feel free to private message me. As I battled a depressed state before due to how life events turned out if only I would have done this.

I have two methods that i have found to be quite effective. First, i play games i love to get my mind off of my bad mood. Second, i just keep on trucking. You will reach better days, but only if you keep going on. Giving up won't help anyone, including yourself.

evilcon09 : whenever i am feeling a bit down i try to do some physical activity to take my mind off it. ill take a long walk, go on a bike ride, or jump in the pool. that always seems to help me. also the comfort i get from my best friend she is absolutely wonderful whenever i feel depressed all i need to do is tell her whats wrong and just talking about it makes me feel better. do you have anyone like that you can trust and tell them all of your problems no matter how screwed up they are?

hope this helps! good luck!

What I do is constantly remind myself what life's all about, and that it matters more than it looks. I just stop being cynical about a situation and try to talk things out with someone, usually the person that I feel I may have made angry or sad, or with someone close to me.

I was diagnosed with depression in 2007 and probably had it a bit before that too. I've since graduated from high school and then from college in 2012. Since then, I've tried something like eight different anti-depressants and combinations of anti-depressants and have yet to find any that help (but I've heard from a lot of people that were helped by them). I've also spent a lot of time seeing a couple different counselors which hasn't helped either. Also went to group therapy which didn't help me. Also was hospitalized briefly, but got out as fast as I could. I have plenty of good friends who I can talk to any time. I have a pretty good and supportive family as well. I'm even a Christian, go to church and Bible study weekly, and have talked with my pastor and other strong Christians. I have no situational reason to be depressed, which leads me to believe that it is probably a physical problem with the chemical balance in my brain and that the currently available medications just don't treat it correctly.

The one thing I haven't given a fair shot is exercise which is supposed to be one of the best things for depression. It's just really hard to exercise even when you're not depressed.

So, long story short, nothing has helped me and I've tried pretty much everything. My best strategy is just to go to bed and hope to feel a bit better when I wake up.

However, plenty of people with depression are helped by counseling, exercise, and/or medication. Sometimes it even just goes away on its own. It feels hypocritical for me to say this since I'm pretty darn hopeless myself, but the important thing is to keep trying stuff and not give up.

I've dealt with depression an a weekly/daily basis for a looong time. Self-medicating is a waste of time (drinking, etc.). It's my belief that doctors medications are not right for me but may be the option for others.

In the end it's exercise. People don't like to hear it because they want to relax and chill but exercise releases the feel good chemicals of the body and sometimes depression will make a person feel like not doing ANYTHING. The adrenaline, dopamine, serotonin and endorphins that are released all elevate your mood after working out or walking. A brisk walk of as little as 30 minutes can achieve the results that you want. You could also try push-ups or abdominal crunches if you don't feel like leaving the house. Some people don't like to stretch before exercising but I highly recommend it to avoid pulled or tight muscles.

You might also meet some new friends while walking, jogging or playing sports.

thephantombrain :

evilcon09,

I can vouch for this very personally. Exercise could quite possibly be a lifesaver. I've struggled with depression for at LEAST 5-6 years, though I kept it hidden from most people.  I never saw a doctor or a counselor... and I never took any kind of medication.  In January, I decided to try once again to pick myself up by doing little things just for me. It helped, but it wasn't until June that I felt like a brand new person with a brand new mindset.  What changed?

I started exercising.  Exercising, even though I did not enjoy it at first... has been my miracle cure.

Do I still feel depressed sometimes.... well... sure!  But they are always short bouts, nowhere near as deep as they've been in the past, and nowhere near as damaging.  They are also far less frequent than they used to be.

I'd highly.... HIGHLY suggest exercising. The more regularly, the better.

First off, the fact that you are even talking to people about depression, even on the internet, is a huge first step. I know I'm younger then you but I've been fighting depression since I was in grade 5 so I thought I'd try to help and tell you how I've been trying to deal with it.

First off talk to anyone about it. Let people into your darkness. Even if it is just online friends you are not alone in this. I know when I first starting feeling the full effects of depression I was too scared to let anyone know for fear that they would make fun of me. I guess in a way I am still scared to tell people about my depression but I want to help anyone else going though it.

Next off try to do something that you enjoy. For example I watched anime, played older games, or listened to music.

Another thing is that you need to try to look at all the good things in your live. I know how hard this is and this will take a few tries but it is important.

Finally you need to know that there is always someone out there who cares about you and knows you are important.

And hey if no one has said it in a while to you I want you to know you are important. Even though whoever reads this may not know who I am, just know that you are important.

Also thank you for bringing something like depression up, it's a very touchy subject today that not many people talk about but it is important to talk about it.

I had help from my friends to help me stop being depressed. My friends really helped me through some tough times when I needed help. Therapy also helped, but not as much as friends and family did.

As many other people of said, I suggest some type of exercise. Whatever kind of exercise you want to do is fine, as long as it gets your heart rate up. Whenever I got depressed, I just went for long walks. For me, my walks didn't just heal my depression - it gave me time to think. If you can, I'd suggest going for a walk by yourself, to somewhere safe and open. The silence (besides the wind and animals) calms your mind and it lets you think about your life. Sure, you'll think about all the negatives and the stupid things you've done - but eventually you'll start thinking about the positives, and once you do, you'll already be in a better mood. Another tip would be to just get up, look in the mirror, and smile. Smile even if you don't want to. You can also make weird faces and try to make yourself laugh. If you do that, you'll actually trick your brain into thinking you're happy, and once you do, guess what happens - you'll actually feel happy! I know that's tough to do sometimes but it really works if you give it a shot. As long as you don't give up and look for ways to help your depression that work for you, you'll be OK and you'll get through it. And if it helps, just imagine that everything happens for a reason - that in the future, you WILL find friends, and that you'll keep them for life. Because you never know - it could (and probably will) happen. Good luck, and I hope you beat your depression!
