On September 30th, two Microsoft VPs went to a press conference and announced they are working on Windows 10. They think it's going to be such a big leap that they're skipping Windows 9. Wait... what? I believe the goal of it is to make it feel good to both Windows 7 and Windows 8 users.

And Windows 10, huh? Interesting. I personally do not like Windows 8, even though I love my XBOX 360 ( my Step - Mom's reasoning ) , however, with the way Windows 10 is being made out, it sounds like something that I could actually use and enjoying using it. 

What really? I didn't even know that there was such thing as Windows 10 until I came to this thread.

I just recently got Windows 8.1 and now there's Windows 10 coming out soon? I think that's a bit too soon if you ask me. Microsoft could not be not doing good than usual possibly.

Oh, right, Firefox, but what the heck is Safari? Like Pokemon or something? When deg mentioned being confused by Microsoft, I remembered the whole thing with Minecraft, and then I became just as confused, they have been doing a ton of weird stuff lately, but as long as it works out in the end and we don't have to pay, I'm fine with it.

So no information about Windows 10 has been released? It's still way too soon even they announce it anyway. I hate when they have to "update and upgrade" in a short amount of time.

Its meant to be a cross of windows 7 and 8.

I just read this entire thread and most of the article, and I agree that it's a bad idea to already release Windows 10. That might make Microsoft get less money from Windows 8. But Windows 10 itself is a brilliant idea in my opinion. I'm surprised I haven't heard about it until I spotted this thread. I've always loved Windows 7 and I've enjoyed using a touch screen for various things, so I'll love Windows 10 if it's not too complicated for my use.

zanderlex : Lol it's not a Pokemon. Safari is an internet browser developed by Apple. My grandma has a MacBook and I've used it before. Safari seems to be better than Internet Explorer.

Windows 10 is just a cash grab for all the money they didn't get from Windows 8. Normally when a new OS comes out sales go up by about 20%, but (I'm pretty sure) with Windows 8 sales went down. Windows 7 was a huge success compared to Windows 8 and Windows 10 is probably going to be just as bad as Windows 8, sadly. They are going to rush this OS out as fast as possible so that they don't lose all profit. I'm sure the reason Microsoft has been buying all these companies lately is probably because the OS business just isn't going well for them so they buy companies with profit coming in with the money that they have from the Microsoft Office application sales.

I saw a (very brief) demo video, and I was impressed. I'm one of the few fans of Windows 8 (mainly because I have touch screen, suckahs), and based off of this first look I'm pretty excited for Windows 10. They have a pre-release build out, but it's only for the incredibly technological people. You'll have to use a lot of coding to access everything, as it's still only mid-development. Still, it's a first look, and I might try it out.

New OS's usually mean less compatibility with older games, Windows 8 can barely play anything from ~2005 anyway.
I think I'll stick with Windows 8 for the time being.

It seems interesting. I was following it back when it was still called Windows 9 (or in some circles, Windows 8.2), and--wait, now that I think about it, it's not really that interesting to me. I have Windows 8.1, and I've always avoided the Start Menu anyway. And I don't ever use metro apps, so them being in windows makes no difference to me. But, as long as it continues 8's trend of booting faster, I'll be happy for it!

I feel really confused. I thought I read somewhere that Windows 9 was going to be a free update for people who had Windows 8 already.  But from what I'm reading, they changed the name from Windows 8.2, to Windows 9, to Windows 10?  What the heck???

I've never liked Windows 8 tbh, but I didn't have a choice to use other Windows OSs when I bought my last laptop.  It WAS useful for my touchscreen, but that being said, I hardly ever used it... and now my touchscreen is broken to boot.

So I can't say I'm excited about another version of Windows, but I'll get used to the change just like I always do.  Unless you're a computer nerd and/or have money, the laptop companies don't give you much of a choice.

Even though the page says that you need to be part of the "Windows insider program" to download it, when you scroll down the page, you will still see the download links and they appear to work... Well, for me at least....

(Also, keep in mind that this is an early beta/alpha build of Windows 10 so don't install this on an important device. Use a virtual machine program or an experimental device that's not important)

I actualy use windows 8 now. I only "upgraded" because I was studying a computing course and felt obligated to learn how to use it.
And it actually is better in most ways, when compared to 7.
It's just Microsoft declined to release 8.1 features for months,  until they realised people were really unhappy and weren't going to shut up.
Now by right clicking the windows icon I can view all the admin options easily. Ideal for my needs. Maybe not so much for the average user.

Iv also got Ubuntu on this machine, and there are certainly lessons Microsoft could learn.

Only about 20% of businesses have upgraded to 8, most don't want to use it so they need a current system they will like.

8 was actually better in regards to dumping unnecessary features, like windows aero, but they squandered that by having features you dont want running, such as metro.
regardless of whether its used its always running.  I have no idea how much resources it used up, probably not a great deal, but they would do well to allow users to choose to enable/disable such a system in future.

You can set your laptop to go straight to desktop by right clicking the toolbar, properties, navigation, and checking the 2 boxes under start screen. When you start the laptop or close everything it will go straight to desktop.
And 10 is meant to be free to 8 users. There is speculation it might be free for 7 users too, I assume so that they can get everyone using the 1 latest system.
