In this competition is based on the new Video Game Characters feature. Whoever assigns the most characters to the most screenshots wins.


Examples of how this works
You get a point for each unique character / game combination. I'll user Super Mario World and Mario in my examples:
-If you assign Mario to 3 screenshots for Super Mario World, you get 1 point.
-If you assign Mario to 3 screenshots for 3 different games, you get 3 points.

You can also earn multiple points off of the same screenshot if it contains more than 1 character; example:
-If you assign Yoshi and Mario to the same screenshot for Super Mario World, you get 2 points.

You can assign characters to screenshots of games that other users have already done but not of the same characters. Example:
-Another user assigns Mario to a screenshot for Super Mario World, they get 1 point
-You assign Mario to a screenshot for Super Mario World, you do not get a point
-You assign Yoshi to a screenshot for Super Mario World, you get 1 point

Prizes:
The prize amount will be based on how many characters get assigned to how many screenshots among all users. At any time, you can find out that number in the above 'Current Rank' url.

Rules:
-Taking screenshots of characters for a game that someone else has already taken screenshots of for that same game will not count if the screenshots are too similar, if someone takes a screenshot similar to a screenshot already submitted to this competition, it will be downrated
-You may use previously submitted screenshots or you can take all new screenshots
-Hacked and homebrew games do not count
-If more than 75% of your tagged characters are in games where others have tagged the same characters, than you are not eligible for the cash prizes
-A 'Character' will be anyone in the game that has a name and isn't user generated and isn't randomly generated
-Only screenshots which have a rating of 3 or higher count
-Clones do not count (this only applies to MAME games)
-You MUST use the Vizzed RGR Plugin to take the screenshots
The Screenshot you submit has to be a screenshot you took with the RGR Plugin and the URL of the image has to be the same url of the image of the screenshot you took, you cannot upload your screenshot somewhere else and use that as your submission, you have to use the actual url of the images that were uploaded when you took the screenshots.


Tips:
-Try to focus on games that no one else has done
-When you work on a game, try to add every character for that game
-If you find characters that are missing, be sure to let the staff know asap so that we can get them added right away and than you can add those characters to your games
-Don't be overwhelmed if a lot of users have a lot of points, it's very easy and quick to earn a lot of points
-This competition not only encourages tagging characters in your screenshots, it also encourages taking more screenshots so be sure to take as many as you can
-Make sure to take and use meaningful screenshots if you want to avoid having your screenshots down rated

Do you get bonus points if a over 2 are in the picture? Do enemies count?

mourinhosgum : You get points for each character that appears in the screenshot. Enemies count but there will probably be a lot of enemies that don't have profiles so you'll need to make a list of enemies for the staff to add.

Davideo7 : How long does it take for the points to go through. I just added a whole bunch of characters to SMW and it doesn't say any characters were tagged under the box art and it doesn't say  I have any points

mourinhosgum : Did the character names appear next to the screenshot after you tagged them in the screenshot?

Davideo7 : Nope. Supernerd had the same issue. Also PM'ed locals to add almost all mario characters

I'm a bit confused as well. I figured I'd start with the screenshots I've already taken, but when I go to tag the character, only the first picture of the list (when I click to "add/update" my screenshots for the game) lets me even attempt to tag the character. Not only that, but it doesn't seem to be working after I click to update the screenshot. Are we just not doing it right? What did I miss? Apparently I've taken quite a few screenshots over the years, so best to clarify before I continue

I'm having issues tagging screenshots with Mario. Every other character works (well, some of the time), but when I try adding Mario, I get the message: "Character was not successfully added to screenshot."

Edit: Yoshi and Toad aren't adding either. Seems any character from the Mario series doesn't want to work for me for some reason.

Davideo7 : Okay, thanks! Yeah, I just got it to work for different screenshot now. Does this mean I should delete the other screenshots to get to an important one? lol I know for one of the Fire Emblem games I have a ton of characters in one shot, but it's on near the bottom of the list.... Is this an intended flaw? Or something that'll be fixed later (though perhaps not in time for the competition) ?

EDIT: OHHHH Alright, I just typed in the names and it tagged it correctly. So it's only the dropdown that works for the first pic, but you can still tag in all of them. Got it.

But I don't want to feel like I'm cheating. It's okay if the characters are in their small, tiny map form, right? Doesn't have to be a blown-up profile pic? Like would it be alright if I tagged everyone (if I can remember their names) in this pic?

I'm still having the same issue as described in my previous post.

I have a screenshot from Game & Watch Gallery that has Yoshi, Toad, and Donkey Kong Jr. in it. I can tag it with DK Jr. successfully, but it gives an error for Yoshi or Toad if I try them.

Edit: I can't add anyone from the Mario series or the Pokemon series even though I'm clicking them from the dropdown menu. I have no idea why this is.

Edit2: I can tag the characters on my mobile device, but not my computer, which is a bit of a pain.

Davideo7 : Yup it works. We realized it was the drop menu that wasn't working. Thank Supernerd as he found out why it wasn't working!

EDIT: All MM2 Robot masters are catagorized as Mega man three robot masters!

Out of curiosity... I know of a game here on Vizzed that has the potential to randomly generate said "characters" that are used and playable within the game. If I were to take an endless number of screen shots using these randomly generated characters, would this be acceptable? The name of the game won't be released as this is a competition and I am considering competing.

I'd also like to ask "What defines a character???" There are trillions of enemies like in Super Mario World which can be heavily argued as characters. If I happened to get 20 enemies on to one screen and labelled correctly, would this be acceptable in this competition?

There doesn't seem to be enough parameters to limit what users can submit. As a firm believer in exploiting systems, competitions and such, I think it's only right to ask this now instead of later.

For Example: # of Poke times # of Poke Games

There are trillions of pokemon hacks/games/pokemon/NPC characters. Professor Oak, for example, is a pretty important NPC character but random citizens in the different towns aren't named but are still characters. This raises the question, which characters are permitted in this game? See the potential problem yet?

I got the problem that must of the game I play are "rare" and the names doesn't  even appear D:

Can we add a character if it is in this game but it only drops down for a diffrent game? Like bald bull from mike tyson's punch out also appears in this game but there is no character for him in super punch out.

Were do we even submit our screen shots?

Wow... what an amazing opportunity! And such amazing incentive to participate, with the way you've set it up! More participation = larger prize?  How fabulous!

Though I do want to ask... as usual, staff members are exempt from the cash prize, right?  You didn't mention that in your first post, if so.

Can hacks count for more characters, like for instance Mega Man?

Is there a way to add game characters yourself if you are not a staff member, because I'd rather do that than bother them.

Ok, the new screenshot adding mechanism fixed the problems I had earlier tagging characters (plus the new design is more intuitive, which is a plus).

Also, I second the wish to be able to add characters. Goomba of all things isn't available.
