This is a feature I've been wanting to add for a very long time and I finally got it ready in time for July's RGR competition.

You can now tag video game characters to screenshots that you take. To do so, go to the screenshot page in the 'Game Characters' area, type in a character that appears in the game and press enter. Keep doing this for every character that is in that specific screenshot. The box for the very first screenshot will bring up a list of every available character but for the time being, all the other boxes do not but they still work (I'll fix in the near future).


There are a few huge benefits to doing this but I'll go over the main 2.


Game Pages show Characters in Game
Game pages will now show a list of every video game character that appears in a game as long as all of the Characters have been tagged in a screenshot. To see an example of what I mean, go the following page and then look below the game box art area:

Basically that list will always show every character that has been tagged in every screenshot for that specific game.


Character Profiles with screenshots and game list
Every video game character will have a profile (it's basic for now but it'll get more features in the future). The profile page will show every screenshot that the character has been tagged in and it'll also show all of the games that the character is in. Here's an example of Cloud Strife:

If you find game characters that the site doesn't have (and there will be a lot), just let the RGR Staff know or let me know in this thread and we'll get those characters added as soon as we can.

I saw this yesterday while testing games and I was wondering what it was for.  lol

It seems like a pretty good idea, especially in use of spreading the popularity of certain games. I also think it's a pretty unique feature?  Thanks for this update, David.  

Singelli : It's unique as far as I know. Hopefully a lot of users use it, especially after I make this month's RGR competition based on it

I'm confused. Is there a page with a master list of all characters on the site?

madison : If I understand correctly, each game page has a list of every character that appears in that game.

Davideo7 : I noticed that when we're submitting screen shots and our characters don't appear, the names of the characters aren't kept on the screen shot. This makes adding screenshots for the Mega Cash Competition difficult because we need to wait for staff to add the correct characters for these games and afterwards return to our many screenshots to add the character names again. This might pose a problem for adding unique games and unique characters because it might be delayed. There will be no possible way to submit more characters than competitors adding nothing but already made characters because it's easy.

madison : I actually just spent the past few hours working on a page which will allow you to filter through all the characters. I'll make a better one in the future but for now this is all I have time for:

tgags123 : Yeah, sooo much potential and I'm so excited to finally have this feature ready, it's been one I've wanted to add for a long time.

Fireproof : I actually just made it possible for Normal users and up to add Characters that are missing. Every character added by a non staff member will be considered a "pending" user but that user will be available to everyone.

Davideo7 : Nice, that's about what I was looking for. Would you like help with adding characters to series that weren't correctly labeled before? (ie: the Mega Man Robot Masters all had the different titles of the games, like Mega Man III or II, instead of just "Mega Man" as the series.)

Edit: Also, it would seem the franchise adder is not operating yet, though you probably already know that!

madison : Actually I can explain what's going on there. If a character doesn't have a franchise assigned to it, than the info seen in those brackets is based on the first game which that character appeared in. There's a lot of characters that need to be assigned to the proper franchise but only staff members can do it currently (maybe you should sign up to the staff with for position if you're interested).

Davideo7 : I attempted to add the character to the screen shot but it still says that it can't submit the character with the same message it had previously. Is this going to be on the screenshot submit page? I didn't see anything different about it. If I try to type in "Rabbit" for example, it doesn't seem to create it or add it to the list.

Davideo7 : Do we have to do a bio for enemies? And what do we put for their gender, Just N/A?

Fireproof : You can't create new character pages from the screenshot submission page, there's a separate page for that and you should be able to find the link to that page right below the box where you type in the character names.

mourinhosgum : If something is genderless or multi-gendered, than leave gender blank. You don't have to insert bios for anything if you don't want.

Davideo7 : I see that now, thank you. I can't find my game......... Do I need to have my game listed to add the character? 

Davideo7 : How do we edit a character. I accidentally put koopas first appearance in Super mario bros. Instead of mario bros.

Davideo7 : Ok, I'll think about it. Where would I go to sign up for something like that?

Something I've noticed is that the Mario creatures I have been adding are not showing up in the drop down menu, so multiple people could potentially add the same thing without realizing it.

Also, a little enhancement I would make to the character adder is to have the Franchise Selector to start with the choice last selected, since in many cases, people will be adding several characters from the same franchise, which can be tedious to have to select the franchise from the long list over and over.

Also, i've noticed every time you put a quotation mark or apostrophe it puts a / by it
