The main competitions for the forum, I mean. Let's take a look here, VCS Month, followed by TDSpam, followed by CP Competition, with no breaks in between. It's a non-stop swirl of posting, scratching for threads, word count, posts in 1 hour, and contribution of 2 reviews in 1 day, rinse repeat. I'm starting to think this may not be a great idea to have year round.

I like having them, I always feel like they help liven things up and give users something to look forward to and work toward but I'm will to compromise.

What if we merged the CP VCS with the Tour de Vizzed by adding a Jersey dedicated to CP earning and than remove the Green Jersey. On top of that, we can get rid of the VCS all together since the Tour de Vizzed already covers posting and we're left with a 2 month break with a competition every 3 months instead of every month.

Davideo7 : I have a suggestion for the Post VCS. I've heard people complain about the low quality of posts during the VCS so I was wondering if the VCS could have 2 components that would give users points. The first would be the standard quantity in which the number of posts earns you points. The other component could be one in which post exp also earns you posts.

Davideo7 : I suppose that can work out pretty well. Mostly the Green Jersey solution, adding the CP function to it. I know we've been looking for a better green jersey for a long time. It can work if you can input it.

I think a change to the TdV and CP VCS is great. Combine those into 1 and then run the competitions on and off like this:

Jan - VCS
Feb - nothing
Mar - TdV
Apr - nothing
May - VCS

and so on. It gives a break each month so people have a chance to relax but also gives regular competitions to participate in for everyone that wants to.

Well, I agree. I don't see the point in the posting VCS since there is already a TDV which is a posting competition, and you can change the TDV to make it that the one who gets the most CP in a day gets the green jersey and green jersey points. 

I like megaman's idea about the post exp and the standard quantity of posts you make each counting as a component to the competition, and I think by the time the vcs rolls around everyone is already exhausted from all of the recent activities, so I think that making the CP VCS action of getting the most Cp in a day would work out well for those who want to get a jersey. 

I think this would work out well because it does give users a longer break in between competitions and it also still provides a good amount of activity and competition for those that are interested in doing so, and of course it eliminates the spammy most posts in an hour for green. 

I like the competitions the way that they are, but if we are going to make a change, I like Geeos idea the best. PLEASE don't get rid of the VCS, it is my favorite competition and there is minimal spam.

I want the break, but I do see how the CP VCS benefits the site so well, I mean I can't tell you how many reviews I featured last month because of the CP VCS. I easily featured well over twice as many reviews last month as I usually do, and I had a second person helping me with it. So to eliminate the CP VCS would be a mistake, yet at the same time, having a competition every month almost makes the competitions feel less special.

Basically, I would say that if we change anything, we need to combine CP VCS and TdV like you said.

Eirinn : I'm only willing to get rid of the CP VCS if we get rid of the regular VCS as well because the CP VCS is just as beneficial to the site, maybe even more beneficial. I suppose we could combine the VCS competitions.

Davideo7 : I know, but not really. The VCS is much less spammy than the TdV. It is more fun without the spam. There is also the VCS Hall of Fame. Would we just abandon that?

Like I said before, I like the competitions the way they are. If we are going to change something, we should either add a TdV jersey for CP (Maybe a Pink jersey?) or replace the Green Jersey with the CP jersey.

Regardless of how much spam the competitions attract. David will have a different view as he is the one who owns the site. Yes it might be annoying to some of the users, but it also increases the activity on the forum. Though if there is competitions every month i can see people getting increasingly bored by it..

Davideo7 : Makes sense. I guess just leave it the way it is. The CP VCS is extremely benificial to the site, but I think it would be far less beneficial if we combined it with the TdV pr VCS, as people tend to try to post, more than add content typically.

So after a few days to think, I have to say, I don't think the CP VCS should be touched at all (though I never wanted it removed entirely), as it's important to the site and gets probably three months of content added in one month, and combining it with the TdV or VCS would water that effect down quite a bit.

The competitions get tiresome to staff, Mods, and a few others, but these positions are voluntary, so if we can't stand putting up with them, we can just step down. Basically, Staff and Mod positions come with work, and if we don't want the work, we shouldn't take the jobs. I can live with it. Others aren't really so affected by CP VCS, so it shouldn't be a problem really. Mostly just avoid the reviews forum if it gets bothersome.

It's not just a staff problem though, it's a problem that regular members of the memberbase have.

Constant competition is boring because there's no feeling of it being a "once in a while" thing.

"Oh, there's a VCS going on? Huh. How about that?"

It leads to general apathy of the site, which is not a good thing.

I'm not saying we should abandon competition altogether, but there's no break from competition. It's overwhelming (I've felt like this for a while, before I became staff again) and overall, not a fun experience.

And if we aren't doing these things for fun, what's the point anymore?

My suggestion is to get rid of the VCS entirely, and to change the CP VCS to be held at the same time as the Tour de Vizzed, so you get 2 months off. My reasoning:

The VCS is outdated, and spammy as hell. All it encourages is a bunch of 20 worded posts that no one cares to read. Sure it's good for the "activity" of the site, but the quality of the site is noticeably down in these months.

The CP VCS is silly, and I don't entirely like it, but I can see the worth of it once in a while. Move it to the TDV, and have it replace a jersey (preferably the green one, because the green one is the worst). Whoever has the most CP in a given day gets points for that jersey. And to prevent people from writing a ton of reviews, and getting points in red, yellow, AND green, change the rules of the Red Jersey. This hits two birds with one stone. I don't care who writes the longest review of the day, I care about who made the most quality non-review post of the day.

It would allow us to keep the CP VCS (which I'm still not behind), and allow us time off from the constant competition.

legacyme3 : I can see what you're saying, and it makes sense to me, but eliminating the CP VCS seems like a bad idea, since it does actually benefit the RGR and VGR so much.

As much as I hate to say it, I think the VCS should go before the CP VCS, as we already have the TdV for posting competition, and the VCS is less active and promotes only one type of post, whereas TdV promotes several types (longest, fastest, etc), even though I personally enjoy the VCS. That would give us one month off, and go back to the way it used to be.

Combining CP VCS and TdV is a bad idea, I think, as it will cause a big drop in the CP competition if we make it just another aspect of the TdV rather than it's own (and only competition for a month) competition.

In the end, I'm fine with whatever we get, but I think the CP VCS should be left untouched.

Also on a side note, spammy is apparently a matter of opinion, as some here are saying that the VCS is spammier than the TdV, and others are saying the opposite. The way I see it, any posting competition is going to be a little spammy, but in the end, the good can outweigh the bad.

The VCS is definitely spammier than the TDV. With no attention to quality being given mind in the VCS, spammers run rampant in those months.

I'm glad to see that the VCS competitions will be removed entirely. It gives everyone much needed time off from competitions.

What effect the time off will have for the TDV remains to be seen, but I'm intrigued.

So, we're getting rid of both VCS competitions? It'll be kinda weird to not have a VCS since there's always been one for the longest time in most of our time here. If it improves the TDV to respective levels, you can count me in.
