Say you're not succeeding at something new.  How long do you try before you look online for FAQs, cheats, or you ask friends?

How long until you ask a teacher for help or a parent for help?

At what point does failing make you quit and get assistance?

When I encounter a problem, I will approach the problem in every way I can think of first.  Then I will pause or save my game before stepping away from it for a few hours (Or as much as a day or two in rare cases.)  before setting down and trying any new approaches that I may have come up with, or at least approach the problem with a calmer demeanor.  If I cant find a solution the second time that I try getting through a difficult point in a game, THEN I will usually look up a walkthrough to get me past the part I was stuck on.

The same goes for real life, the only difference is that instead of looking up a walkthrough, I will seek out someone I know who knows more about the subject than I do for insight.  Then if I either don't know someone who can help me, then I will either look online for a guide, or start calling around for someone to take care of the problem for me (50% of the time, I can solve things on my own.  90% of the rest of the time, I can take care of things with the help of a friend.  The rest of the time, I have to swallow my pride and ask someone who is a little more skilled for help.)

I've never had much trouble asking for help (Even though I prefer not to if I can help it), but I do tend to exhaust my other options before I reach that point.

Video games, I will never ask for help or look up anything on an FAQ.
I'll be stuck on something until that "ah hah!" moment comes.

As for asking assistance for other things in life, I don't necessarily think its failure to get help.
You only really fail when you stop doing or trying something.

vanelan :  I used to follow that same approach and with older games it usually works, but with the newer ones I find that I run into those types of situations more often and found myself not finishing good games because I would get stuck on one part and not know how to continue, then the frustration at multiple fails and I would never pick the game up again.  

So now when I get stuck I'm just like screw it I'm gonna look it up so I can continue with the game.  Many times it would be due to some gameplay mechanic I didn't get quite right from the tutorial being unclear or something like that and would never get stuck for the rest of the game.

When I am not succeeding at something new, I usually try for a few hours before I ask someone or search the internet for help. I usually try for quite a few minutes before I ask a teacher for help. Failing makes me quit and get assistance after I have tried my hardest and I get really frustrated, angry, and disappointed.

It depends on the situation. If it is a very important and urgent situation and I don't have much time left, (like having trouble with homework at night), then I probably will ask for help fast. If it is a minor situation, then I'll give it sometime. 

It usually takes me at least 30 minutes (Maybe longer depending on what I am doing) before I use Google to try and find out what something means. If Google doesn't work....... If it's important I'll ask a parent/teacher/friend, if it's a personal project or something I'm doing for my own benefit.. I kinda give up .

I go at least two days before getting help

I try something new at least 5 times before asking for help from a teacher or FAQ. I try to learn how to do it myself before resorting to any form of help.

For me it depends on the situation.If it is a very and I dont have time I will ask for help.To seek/search help is not ashamed. Asking for help is human, to not give me assistance is bestial

Give me a few hours to wander around, doing nothing, fiddling around with useless background items, and THEN I'll use a guide. I'm not one to give up easily, so I'll look hard before getting help.

If I am stuck in something for a hour then I will look at YouTube or GameFAQs. I am not often stuck on RPG's but if it has like some of the missions Battle Network series has then  I'm getting a walk-through.

I usually wait until I have run out of ideas, and can't frankly do anything about my problem. If it's about a game, I'll usually try out a guide online, mostly youtube. If it's a problem with a subject or something, I'll ask a teacher or someone who is older than me, as they usually have an answer.

When I am faced with a problem, I change up my efforts and try to vary my approach as much as possible and try to figure it out myself by looking at it in every way possible. I don't really like relying on others, but if I simply cannot solve something, then I would much rather just re teach it to myself and try again. 


When it comes to school, if I do not understand something, then I make the effort to set time aside with the teacher to stay after school and go over it and try to make as much sense of it as possible until it clicks. If they are willing to take the time to stay after school, then I might as well take advantage of the opportunity. 

When it comes to video games however, I am usually pretty good about figuring it out, but if I really get stumped, then I will probably look for a walkthrough or something rather than waste time trying to get through it the same way as before. 

I am not a quitter, and I have a natural persistent and competitive persona, and if something doesn't make sense to me, rather than give up, i keep trying until I get it and it makes sense to me, whatever it takes. You get through life by learning from your mistakes, and it is through failure that you can achieve success. That's at least how I see it anyway. Good question by the way. 

This is actually a problem I have. Whenever I need help in something (mainly school) i never get help.

I usually wait up until the very last minute when it hardly makes a difference.

I do this usually because I always feel like my question is too stupid so I'm embarrased to ask it. Then when I'm ready to ask I don't want them to know I haven't known the answer for so long and just waiting last minute (even though I am)

I could go only a few seconds-1 hour doing something, before asking for help. OR video game wise...i would look up cheats and FAQs. Most of the i spend with help is really me doing nothing to help myself.
