Welcome everyone to the NES Remix Tournament.

This is a double elimination tournament which you should all know by now which means that if you lose 2 matchups, you're out. Everyone starts out in the "winners" bracket and if you lose, you go on to the "losers" bracket and if you lose in the losers bracket, you're out of the tournament. At the very end, the winner of the winners bracket and the winner of the losers bracket play each other but the winner of the losers bracket has to beat the winner of the winners bracket twice (this makes it fair to the user who went undefeated for going undefeated).

This tournament will go on for 13 weeks but most of you wont make it that far; some users will only last 2 weeks. There will also be a bye week available to users who have the lowest seed number (more info on that below).

Unlike previous tournaments, a "week" in this tournament will start and end on Wednesday. Each week I'll make a thread which says who you'll be playing that week and it'll be you and your opponent's responsibility to PM each other to setup a time to play your matchup during that week.

When you PM your weekly opponent, be sure to let your opponent know what your availability is for the following 7 days so that you both know when you'll both be available to schedule your mathcup. Be sure to tell them what days your available and what time your available on each day. Also be sure to let them know what time zone your times are based on. If you and your opponent can figure out right away what times your both available on, than there should be less problems with scheduling a time to play.

If your opponent fails to communicate with you, be sure to report them to the weekly thread so that you get the automatic win! If both of you fail to play your game, the user with the higher seed number automatically get the win. If both users have the same seed number than whichever user has participated the most will be chosen. If both users have participated the same amount, than whichever user has logged in most recently will get the auto win. If both users have participated the same amount, than one user at random will be chosen as the winner. In situations where a matchup didn't take place and both users did not communicate, both users will have their seed increased by 3.

If some how you and your opponent get the same score (tie) than you'll have to play the same game again.

You do not have to take screenshots of the results or record the games you play but it's definitely encouraged because not only does it offer proof but it makes it more fun for spectators of the competition that are following it.

Each week you'll play at least 2 games against your weekly opponent. If one of you wins both of those 2 games, that user will be the winner of the matchup. If you both win 1 game each, you play 2 more games and if someone wins both of those 2 games, that person advances on. As long as you both keep winning 1 game each, you keep playing 2 more games until someone has finally won both games. If you end up playing 2 more games, the 2 additional games cannot be the same games as the previous 2 games but the next 2 games can be the same as the previous games. So for example, if you end up playing 8 games, games 1 and 2 can be the same as games 5 and 6 but games 1 and 2 cannot be the same games as games 3 and 4. Likewise, games 3 and 4 can be the same games as games 7 and 8 but games 5 and 6 cannot be the same games as games 7 and 8 or 3 and 4.

Here's how the seed number will work. The goal is to have the lowest seed number because this can determine who you play against and who gets bye weeks. You want to defeat your weekly opponent in as few games as possible. If you beat your opponent by playing just 2 games, your seed number will not increase (and your opponent's seed will increase by 3). If you beat your opponent in 4 games, your seed number goes up by 1 (and your opponent's seed will increase by 2). If you beat your opponent in 6 or more games, your seed number goes up by 2 (and your opponent's seed will increase by 1). If one user gets the auto win for any reason (except in situations where neither communicated), their seed number will not increase but their opponent's seed will increase by 3.

It is recommended that you play on the United States L2 server since that's the best server. If you're interested in hosting your own server, you must be a Trusted member and you can find the details on how to do that here. The benefit of hosting your own netplay server is that netplay runs a lot faster when your in a session on a server that you're hosting.

Beating the levels quicker earns you more points.

3-15 minutes

Donkey Kong Jr
Choosing:
Pick '2 PLAYER GAME A' or '2 PLAYER GAME B' (whoever chose the game gets to pick).
Winning:
Whoever scores the most points wins.
Tip:
Beating the levels quicker earns you more points.

3-10 minutes

Donkey Kong 3
Choosing:

Try and push Donkey Kong to the top.

3-8 minutes

Ice Climber
Choosing:

Winning:

Tip:
You can push your opponent off the screen to make them lose a life.

1-5 minutes

Mario Bros
Choosing:
Pick '2 PLAYER GAME A' or '2 PLAYER GAME B' (whoever chose the game gets to pick).
Winning:
Whoever scores the most points wins.
Tip:
You can push each other around.
Estimated Play Time:
1-5 minutes

Pinball
Choosing:
Pick '2 PLAYER GAME A' or '2 PLAYER GAME B' (whoever chose the game gets to pick).
Winning:
Whoever scores the most points wins.
Tip:
Hit the ball with the paddles.
Estimated Play Time:
5-15 minutes

Urban Champion
Choosing:
Pick 'GAME B 2 PLAYER GAME'
Winning:
Whoever knocks the other into the man hole wins.
Tip:
The man hole will be behind the user who has been knocked off the screen twice.

I just closed sign up and we have 96 contests! This will be the most epic tournament ever, I can't wait to see how this tournament goes.

Also, What happens if by some chance, the scores tie. How will that be dealt with?

Just out of curiousity ,when will the NES Remix tourney start ,and should Super Mario Bros. count as a playable game in the NES Remix Tourney?

I am really looking forward on competing in this tournament and hopefully win the whole thing.

Surgiac : A 3rd party isn't a requirement but if you're playing against someone you don't know or may not trust, than it might be a good idea to have spectators or maybe even record the match.

If users tie in a game, which is very unlikely, than they'll just have to play the same game again.

vizzy900 : Week 1 will start within a few hours. I got delayed with 2 different site issues earlier today, otherwise it would've started already.

Super Mario Bros isn't on the list so therefore it doesn't count, sorry.

Surgiac : Anyone can stream their matches if they want, I may even consider streaming some of my matches and some of the matches of other users.

Davideo7 : That is what I was thinking, hope that they do in fact enter it instead of just saying they want to enter but not play the games.
