As of Today, 12-06-13, Vizzed Board is 9 years old!

This year we've seen the site slowly start to migrate in different directions. We've seen the Video Game Room start to take off, I've introduced you all to some new features such as the Price Guide/Game Collection and the Contribution Point system and I've been putting some more focus on the forum itself as well. The Retro Game Room is of course still expanding as well with 7 systems added in the past year and well over 1000 new games added and plenty of new features to go along with them.

First I'd like to start out by giving out my awards (which I've been doing for years now). Normally I do 7 awards but this year I'm going to do 9. These awards are usually based on stats but the Member of the Year award is always picked by me based on who I think deserves it most.

He deserves every bit of this award. He has invested more time into the site than any other user (not counting me of course) and he does a fantastic job taking care of the Retro Game Room and also the Site Staff.

He came so close to getting this award both of the last 2 years but he has finally earned it and I'm very happy to pick him this year, no one else comes close. I would like everyone to give him some sort of thanks for all that he does for this site.

I also want to give a huge shout out to the rest of the staff because without their dedication and loyalty to the site, this site wouldn't last.

I just want to say thanks to everyone who has contributed to the site over the past year, the Contribution Point system definitely helps put into perspective just how much the users and staff put into this site.

During the last Anniversary Thread, we set it as our goal to hit 1 million posts before this Anniversary and while we still haven't made it to 1 million, we're only around 65,000 posts away so I think we can pull it off by the end of next month (next month is a Tour de Vizzed month so that'll really help out). A new goal I'm setting for next year is to have 500,000 members before Vizzed Board reaches it's 10 year anniversary (we're currently at 438,392).

Davideo7 : Wow, having read this topic and looking back at how far vizzed has progressed it really puts a fire in my heart some of the awards I did have a few chuckles at (as I didn't expect certain names or some awards). I certainly hope we'll be able to make our goals sometime this following year. These past 3 years I've been on the site have really just flown by and I don't regret a single second of ever joining this site as it has become a dramatic part of my life as well as my future, I hope I'll continue to see all the users I've met and seen on the site so far...including many others that may join in 2014.


Great job on everyone who won the awards!

I can't tell you how happy I am that tRIUNE made Member of the Year.  I knew this was  no-brainer, but just to see it there made my day.

As for insomniac.... lol... I still remember last year when you were surprised I didn't make it. I'm not surprised this year though.  I took about 4 months off from the site overall, and I've had a rough, busy year.  I really haven't been on ALL that much.   (Well, maybe a little)

I was definitely surprised by quite a few awards this year though.  There were a few lists I absolutely did not deserve to be on.

Well sing, you have read my mind again for what I was going to say lol...but, I don't do speeches unless there is a reason too. I am truly surprised with the votes here. As I am not good with voting for people.... I think there are some I shouldn't be voted on. But, as someone always say, let the people vote and let them be the judge....it did leave me speechless for the fact that I was summoned many times to be voted. Which left me in a shock.....and congrats to those, who were awarded as well. Thank you, to one and all....and I really mean it, thank you.... we are indeed, a family that keeps things going. But, most of all I want to thank David. For his amazing, incredible hard work for this site....if it wasn't for him vizzed wouldn't even exist. Well, that was a cool contest as always. Funny thing: when that started, I immediately knew I wouldn't get any awards, or if I was lucky at least one vote. Don't ask me why, your answer might be obvious. Many people know me on Vizzed but the popularity is not that high frankly. Just a few of them knows my situation in real life, what I became. Here on Vizzed I'm known as the "Walkthrough writer", but it's a long story in real life. This year is kind of terrible, I'm not in the mood to be active besides my walkthroughs. We'll see how the next year will go. Anyway, it's time for me to go back to my lair. I have a walkthrough to make in time. Lot of time to spend in the exploration of a new game and its secrets.

Davideo7 : For that best new member category, you could make all 3 staff   IT seems as though I beat your posts by 1000 this year It is so awesome to be the most active user here with those 6,500 posts. It took (almost) a full year to do that. It makes it more awesome how I beat you and had about 3 months less time to do it.

I was just thinking this morning... now that I've hit over 6k posts, I have to say I AM a little surprised not to be on the 'most posts' lists. Mainly because... since I was active about 2 months after I joined... that means I must have made 2k posts in the first two months I was active here, last year. That's... absolutely insane.  O.o

Hm, looks like I was a vote short on a few of these categories. Oh well, I'm really glad for the people who ranked for the awards. I have no complaints about any of the choices made. Congrats to all of them.

First of all, Happy 9th Birthday Vizzed.

I myself have been here... 3 years now, so I've really been here for 1/3rd of Vizzed's (current board) lifetime? That's pretty cool to think about. Feels like just yesterday I was tied for second in best new member

To be completely honest, I am very much shocked to have won Most Famous again, despite being gone half a year. I know some of my friends voted for me, which definitely helped, but I went to the voting thread, and it shocked me to see how many names I don't know or remember actually thought of me as deserving It was definitely closer than it was the last time I was eligible for the awards (2011)

For nostalgia, I want to copy that vote to illustrate how close it was.

Congratulations on Member of the Year. This was an award I'm glad you got. The last two years you also could have won it, but this year, in my mind, you blew absolutely everybody away. And I would not be surprised to see you win it again next year. I just don't see anybody working as hard (even if they were given the opportunity, I don't think they'd be able to accomplish what you do) as you.

Once again, congratulations on a well deserved award. I knew it was coming, and that's how you know it was a slam dunk choice.

In all the years I've been a member of this site (3, this is my 4th time being around for the Awards though) I have never seen such thorough domination of the best newbie category. Of course, the pitfall of best new member... is they never seem to last long

Someone70 (2011)- until I badgered her into making a quick appearance, hadn't been around in forever, still inactive as a poster.
KG (2012)- also inactive

I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't go inactive. There's no doubt you deserved the award this year, and you are a valued member of the community. And it sucks to lose valued members of the community (like it has the last three times someone won and left... )

On the note of activity, is it just me or was activity seemingly down this year? Do you have numbers on overall amount of posts made in 2012 (or even 2011) against 2013? I know there's a month left, but even so, we should be able to tell how close the site is to matching (or passing) the numbers from the previous years.

It's just something that makes me curious (among other things, like how many words I made in 2013 or how many total words were said on Vizzed in 2013).
