I don't use translators ever; I either ask my Spanish teacher or look it up in an English-Spanish dictionary.
What some people don't realize are that some translations are not exactly correct and some are just dead wrong.
My Spanish teacher is a savant when it comes to rooting out the people who use a translator. I consider using translators cheating.

I never use google translate, because it translates everything wrong what I put there.
It's the worst translator in the world in my opinion.
I use my own translator books if I need something to translate.

I never use it since it translates some things wrong. Its best to use translator books or ask someone who knows the language.

I don't really need to use a translator because my teacher expects us to use the words he taught us. So, if I DO need to looks something up, I can do it in our textbook, which, compared to my US history book which I never use, is pretty small. Plus it's really inaccurate, or rather it translates the words individually, rather than as a phrase.

Example:"tener frío" is "to be cold" in Spanish. Google translate translates it literally, as "a ser frío", which is basically saying "to be" and "cold".

Having taken Spanish in high school, majoring in Japanese, and studying a few other languages on the side, I have to say that you really have to know the limitations of Google Translate to use it well. Translating whole sentences tends to be bad. Single words usually work fine, but a lot of times you won't get exactly what you want. I find that doing a google image search for the foreign language word can help clear up exactly what it is and then you can come up with your own English translation.

I only ever use google translate to look up what a single word means at a time because it generally mis-conjugates everything when it is put into longer segments. I also tend to use it to get the general idea or meaning of long passages that I don't understand, mainly for articles or stories and such. I never directly use the translated result beyond getting a basic understanding of what I'm reading.

Other than that, I might occasionally use it to find a word that can spice up my sentences once and a while. Even then, it is always best to make good use of asking your teacher questions rather than resorting to google translate for everything because chances are, it won't get you very far.

Sometimes, I do use Google Translate whenever I need to figure out a couple of things here and there, but most of the time, I don't really use it that much for school, although at home, I use it a whole lot more frequent, because there is a couple of things I want to figure out in another language.

Well, in Spanish class, I think I only had to use Google Translate once, especially since we get the homework of a Spanish kindergartner. Yeah, our teacher can be interesting.

Very, very rarely. My experience with languages taught me to always be very cautious with Google as it hardly considers context. I have a translator colleague who says that it's even worse for Chinese.

If you want better tools, go for Word Reference, Reverso or Linguee. They are user-made so you can ask around if your particular word is too hard to translate

I rarely use Google Translate for a language class in school. Last year, I was allowed to use it but I had to be careful, and I very rarely needed it. This year, I get 0 points on anything I use Google Translate for, and there are 2 websites I can use to find all of my vocabulary.

In contrast to the first post I made here in this thread, I now do use it sometimes . My dad helps me with French, my mom helps me with Arabic, but when they're not here I find myself using Google Translate sometimes and asking him whether it's correct afterwards ^-^".
