Hey guys, So this is something that I was really wondering about. I hope this thread itself doesn't become TDV bait but anyways, what do you guys call a pointless thread? A thread with simple yes or no answers? a plain spammy thread? A thread with a dumb topic? Also, a rule for my thread is that your answers must be at least 50 words for this thread please. 

So anyways, I think a pointless thread would be a thread that has simple and spammy answers. Also a thread that literally has no point. Basically I think that if a thread has simple answers, a spammy topic,  spammy or repetitive answers, or stuff against the rules, then that would be a point less thread for me. What do you guys think? Also, if this thread itself can get spammy answers, then please close this. thank you.

I call a pointless thread a pointless thread, what do you call em? No lol, just kidding. To me anything that is just spam or useless information is a pointless thread. Some Yes or No threads are not pointless but some are, so for that it really depends on the topic. 

Good idea for a thread though man.

But All of the simple ones, That are mean't for short replies i define it as pointless.? Threads are for lengthy conversations, Mean't for general topics, I understand you people want jerseys and all, but Still When you make threads lose it's value, you are esstainally making posting lose kind of it's point too.

I guess what a pointless thread is, in my eyes at least, is a thread created with very little information for a member to post back to with much to say. Its a thread that doesn't spark very much conversation to much degree. Not to mention not too many will take interest in it or say very much and after those few people it sits there for the longest time and gets trashed or revived for the sake of a post. Topic choices that not everyone goes with can end the same way as well. And of course like you mentioned the simplistic "Yes and No" threads. Though some are decent with the right amount of effort put into them asking various questions and opinions of members that see it which can lead to a length post explaining why one or the other.

The creation of a pointless threads can occur many ways aside from simple spam and very dumb topic choices.

I define a pointless thread as one with little information, a minor topic that is not broad, rather it is small and pointless.

Basically if it is a few words and it is not something other members can reply to, then I would consider it a useless/ pointless thread. One that isn't open for conversation.

I have been seeing a lot of these in the TDV lately, and it is ridiculous what users will do to make a quick post, they make a thread of their own with a spammy topic that isn't open for discussion. I try to avoid doing so during the TDV no matter how tempting. But yeah that is what I consider a pointless thread.

What I would call a pointless thread, it's to my words is a thread that is more spammy than being something worth talking about that contains little information and I have seen some of those threads made as well and those are the threads I don't like, where they don't have hardly any information, or also another pointless thread can also be a duplicated thread which I do have to admit I have made a couple I didn't even know about, also, that is why rcarter made that thread about stopping the pointless threads which I understand where he went in that thread.

Anyways, good thread for use to mention what a pointless thread is to our words.

Pointless threads are a big issue right now since we are currently going through the spam fest also know as Tour de Vizzed. People will make threads about every little thing in the forum topic. For instance someone could make a thread about this one level in mario, that would be classed pointless because the topic is so small and unnecessary. So a tip is to not make threads that you think have a small topic, you could try picturing it as something you would talk to your friends about. You would never say something pointless to your friends and then have a long conversation about it, you have to think about a decent topic, something people other than the typical Tour de Vizzed competitors will reply to. A pointless thread is one that requires no thought proses by the poster, so it can have more then 1 side to the thread. So, if there is a thread like 'Do you like the TDV?' I would count that as pointless, but if there was a thread called 'Which do you like better? TDV, Post VCS or CP VCS' I would not count that as pointless.

A pointless thread is something that is subjective to the users and the mods. For me, 90% if not more of the threads here are pointless. For others, its the opposite and they have fun posting in every thread they see.

I think a pointless thread is a thread that has no discussion, is really short, and is just plain spammy and is used for tDv post count, viz, and CP. Pointless threads are really everythwere. 


To put in logic, I would say...

A pointless thread is a thread used for tdv spam, viz, and just plain CP. 

Shorter.

Well, to be honest, this is a little bit pointless. Not too bad, as it offers discussion, but sort of an easy question. :U

Anyways, a pointless thread is one that's used for post count, points, exp., etc. and has no overall point of discussion. It's just a thread that you can write a three word reply to and be done with.

Although, I want to debunk a theory people have: A short original thread CAN have a point. People think that if the original post is shorter, it can have no discussion whatsoever. That's not true at all, actually. The original post can be a thousand words, but can offer no basis of speech. But, a post can be five words and offer more discussion that anything.

Just wanted to point that out.

I think a pointless thread is one that asks a simple yes or no question with no real meaning to it, one that offers no real discussion, or are basically 2,000+ word essays.
