Hey guys. Here is another thread I made! Dang, I think I actually made lots of threads today... lol. Anyways, the title of this thread is pretty much self-explanatory. Do you hate educational shows or movies on TV? (Like the science channel, history channel, discovery channel... etc) lol. Well, for me, it would actually depend on the educational show. Like if its an informative and entertaining show (like showing a predator attacking a prey), I might actually like that. But if its just plain and too informative with only boring pics and stuff like that, then no, I don't like it.

So, enough about me, how about you guys?

As a child, I rarely had interest in these shows.  The only time I enjoyed them was if they were about animals, but things would get really awkward when the shows would talk about mating or whatever. This caused me to be weary even watching the animal shows though, so they were hardly on at our house.  You especially couldn't get me to watch one if it was about history.

I always felt the same way about non-fiction books.

As an adult, my tastes has completely changed.  I attribute that change to my relationship with Christ, because that's around the time it happened.  Suddenly, I had a strong thirst for learning.  Even watching or reading something about history interests me as long as I can understand it.  I would actually prefer to watch something and learn about it, than to watch something stupid.

That being said, educational shows still aren't really played in our house.  I think part of the problem is that so many of these shows give information that is debatable or heavily influenced by charged opinions.  Also, some of the 'educational' shows that pop on, I just find stupid.  For example, when the Discovery Channel picks a prairie dog and fabricates a story around the video clips.... that just annoys me.  Oh please, I've never met a prairie dog that named itself Charlie.... Have you?

Okay, I'm gonna be the odd one out here. I watch "educational" things, yes.

Let me explain. I find educational cartoons where they ask you questions as if you'd answer just corny. Not terrible, but just corny. Not that enjoyable, to be honest.

I do watch documentaries that are official looking, though. Like, informational things that have real pictures and footage. And they don't stop and ask you questions. Basically, I like the ones where they talk on and on and explain with real pictures. Even if it is biased and heavily opinionated, it's fun to listen and just try to object to it in your head.

Dude that's pretty much all I watch on TV. I love learning new and interesting things. I do like some sitcoms though. I would say about 50% of what I watch on TV is educational 25% my daughters cartoons, and 25% uneducational aka sitcoms.

I like the nature shows and stuff like that, I think they are fascinating. Other than that, I really have interest in nothing else, I mean some educational shows are just boring to me. I like stuff about nature and space and the planets and cool stuff like that. But other than that I am really not fascinated, or hooked in by other educational shows.

If it is interesting and informative without being boring and dull, then I will like it and continue watching it, but if it is dull and drones on then it really does not catch my interest.

Then again, a lot of educational shows aren't really on anymore, like stuff on the science channels, it is all replaced with lame stuff like redneck fishing or some other dumb, un educational stuff. But yeah tv kinda sucks nowadays to be honest.

mohammedroxx3 : I agree, some of the shows are boring but then there are some that can be entertaining as well. Have you seen the show Deadliest Warrior. That kind of falls under that.

Mostly when I was in school, I really love to watch some of those educational shows, as long I don't have to take any notes, mostly because I don't have to do any school work and I can watch at least something.

I watch a lot of educational stuff when I watch TV. I'll probably be doing something else and have it running in the background though. I like watching survival shows too. Maybe I'll be ready if I'm ever stranded somewhere.

No I wouldn't say I hate them and I don't dislike them either, I might actually like some of them, they tend to be really boring sometimes, but sometimes I actually find them quite interesting.

I don't hate educational shows. But I don't like them. Like Singelli said, most educational shows are heavily influenced on popular opinions. And most of them ridicule any other theories and ideas of the same concepts being discussed. Stuff like Brain Games or Mythbusters are alright with me though.

I don't hate education shows, but I do get bored watching them. They don't interest me at all. So I do not like educational shows either. I'm just neutral with them.

I grew up watching educational shows, and three I liked in particular. Bill Nye the science guy's show, WordGirl and Cyber chase. I've seen episodes of those shows, and they aren't as good as I remember, but I liked them alot.

I don't think I've ever really watched any educational shows. I have not really had any interest in them. I have watched Brain Games a few times, so there's one exception.

I wasn't a giant fan of educational shows. The only show I like that actually educated me was Bill Nye the Science Guy , I'd what it on youtube most of time (since the show isn't on air anymore).

I love the history channel and the discovery channel.
I can not stand P.B.S. or any of the Kids educational shows.
Babysitting will do this to any one.
It is fun to see a few stand up comedians do kid shows from time to time. (Like George Carlin did.) But other than that? It is an extreme waste of time. Kids should be educated by everyone else that is older than them. Not the T.V. Just a Thought.
Good Luck.
Peace.

Despite being American, educational programs are actually my favorite thing to watch on TV. Once you've seen one sitcom or drama, you've pretty much seen them all, and forget ever watching any "reality tv", nothing could bore me more. I love watching shows that actually teach me something new, so I can use that knowledge in my actual life. I did absolutely love "breaking bad" and Game of Thrones" so I'm not completely out of the loop though

Actually, my entire life I've loved a lot of educational shows. Especially science shows. I've watched so much NOVA... XD And Meerkat Manor, that show is AMAZING! Magic School Bus, Bill Nye... I used to rent educational VHS tapes about animals from the library! There are lots of others too... I don't know. I actually love learning. I think I'm probably addicted to it, but I have so much homework that I really wouldn't know...
