Here is a simple thread. Title is self explanatory. Have you ever fixed a computer before? Well, for me, I have fixed some computers several times before but only simple things like reinstalling windows. I never fixed anything related to hardware before. how about you guys?

I have never fixed a computer before. I may be good at computers but I only know how to do simple stuff. I can't fix anything on my computer without help.

My brother likes to pick keys off of my laptop, so I spend a lot of time putting them back on.

Yeah I have done a few simple things like that,  like re installing windows, un installing programs and setting up smart security on all of the computers at home. I have never really done anything with hardware though, I don't think I would know what to do with it either.

I am not super good with computers, but I know how to install and uninstall certain things on a computer. I can set them up pretty easily with little trouble. So that is what I am good with when it comes to computers. I am not experienced with installing new hardware. I set up my sister's computer and hooked everything up correctly if that counts for anything XD.

Spent 14 hours making sure this rootkit and all its buddies were out of mum's computer and then spent a few hours more making sure s*** was up to date because she never bothers to update anything.

She never believes anything I say with regards to computing despite me being well on the way to getting a BSc in Computing and IT.

Willing to bet that she will remove AVAST! "because it's making the internet slow" and get another major infection before the end of the year that, of course, I will have to remove.

I think the rootkit was about the 4th (or was it 5th? I kinda gave up counting years ago) major infection removal I've had to do for her.

I haven't really fixed up computers before, but when my old computer keeps on overheating and seen what the problem was, the fan way broken so I pretty much have took that fan to get a brand new fan for the computer and then it was all fixed up and kept on using it.

Yeah, I had a computer that was acting whacky for a while and I couldn't figure it out until I pulled out my voltmeter and realized the power supply wasn't sending clean power. It was a pretty easy fix though. I've never had a virus and never bothered with trying to remove one, since they can be pretty prickly customers.

How to fix a computer:

1: install Linux
2: done.

I've done a lot of things. I have had to manually get rid of a few viruses since Norton Security was being an idiot and not fixing it, put keys back on the keyboard, screw the bottom of a laptop back in, fix an HDD Drive, and mess with the fan so the computer stops overheating. My computers get into a lot of problems.

I fixed my 2 computers quite a bit. I have had to add new hard drives, re-install windows, reconnect internals, add new hardware, etc. It sucks, but there is something enjoyable about fixing a PC. Maybe its the warm glow of satisfaction. Who knows.

Well, yeah. I've fixed computers before, I've had a lot of them in my life and one notable fact about computers is that they break over time. So I had no other choice to try and figure out the problem which involves booting it up (if I can.) and trying to remedy the problem or trying to take the thing apart myself and fix it from the inside various ways. I actually have one problem at the moment that I'm struggling with for this computer which is essentially having no admin password and having next to no way of bypassing it. But yeah, I've fixed computers before, I won't claim to be a brilliant technician or anything but I'm not dumb and as long as I keep my wits about me I won't mess up a computer when taking it apart. (Much.)

Call me an Admin because my parents got 6 computers here that always needs fixing.I lately took a jet printer into pieces to get the engines. One time my mouse broke so I fixed the circuits myself. I custom built my PC. And I even fixed a PS2 controller myself (not a PC but still a computer). My processor cooler broke so I put it back. IMPORTANT: the thing between cooler and CPU is not glue learned that the hard way. My video card once broke too but a simple change of its cables and fixed. Changed sometimes the SATA cables too.
I love fixing things, but making them is more fun, like making a software to do your math homework with some simple C algorithms.

Sorinkun: Keyboard is not a software(programs, apps, etc.) component, it is hardware(CPU,motherboard,HDD) and also periphery(keyboard, mouse, video card,monitor,etc.).

I've already fixed lots of computers, but they are just simple/minor fixes that almost anybody could do.

I am able to troubleshoot my computer pretty well, when it comes to the software side of things.

As for hardware... I've never opened it up and "fixed" it, but I have upgraded my own RAM and HDD before (which isn't that hard on a Macbook).

I've been able to determine what component of my computer needs fixing before, but most of the time I get computer geek family and friends to do that for me.

I don't know how to fix computers when it comes to hardware or enternal parts. When it comes to the actual computer.. like why it's slow.. why games won't run.. virus.. malware , and spyware , etc I can take care of things like that. I have always like technology in general and I think it would be a cool profession for me to take on one day. Although it is hard to get a job is this it's the want and thought of this and the positivty that overwealms it.

I have done all of the above many times in my lifetime. I started when I was like 11 salvaging old computer parts and making a working computer out of them.

Nowadays I just tinker around constantly building and upgrading my own PC's and help out family and friends when they need it.

I had to pretty much rebuild my harddrive myself because of a stupid Trojan Virus. It may of been simple to do but the actual process of waiting for windows to instal and set up everything else in order for my computer to work took hours. I would guess roughly 6 hours in total. It may of been time consuming but it was a lot cheaper than getting someone else to do it.
