Okay, I've just checked the News, and it said that the U.S is likely to shut down if a Republican vote "Amend budget bill."

.. Yowzah. This doesn't sound very good for Americans.

While I hate the very thought of any military going unpaid, I actually think that a shutdown would help cut unnecessary organization funding from the budget, etc. Basically, a shutdown would require a massive overhaul of the current system. That'd require the government to run more efficiently, which would be good in the long run.

Still, I'm back and forth on this.

This is no exaggeration. A shut down means that everything except for essential services to stop until the budget has been set. It has happened multiple times in the past, one of which is in 2011 with the same old issues. It was in 2011 that caused the US credit rating to go down. All of this further shows how badly divided the US government is right now. Hopefully, we don't have to deal with that again.

Props to whatever democrats decide that the health care law isn't worth a government shutdown and props to any republicans that decide that same health care law isn't worth a government shutdown.

I'd much rather both raise taxes and cut the budget big time because I hate debt, but at the same time no one will run that platform because they won't be elected.

Stupid. The only reason its at risk is because the republicans want to use the threat to force concessions on laws they dont like.
Whilst all governments tend to be *expletive*, i have to say your government is full of a special class of douchebags.

I seriously don't have a great grasp on this, since I'm only 15, and moved recently from Canada here, meaning I don't follow this.. But I'll state what I think I know. Please explain what I got wrong in this post, because I'd like to know.

This is serious business, but it isn't. Now don't hate me for saying "isn't", because it is... I'll explain what I mean.

The "essential" programs like the police, postal service, National Weather Service, firefighters, military etc. are going to stay up and running. Although, some people (which I can't specify due to my lack of knowledge) will not get their paychecks on time or it will be reduced if they are attached to the federal government, but are essential.

Although, the "nonessential" programs, like White House staff (correct that) and other federal programs will get a temporary pay cut, pay delay, or just not coming to work that day of the shutdown.

It's supposed to last more than a week, like the last one. And (please don't nail me on this; this is just a common opinion I've seen) apparently, it's because of Republicans and their opinion on things.

I, from what I understand, should be expensive. But I don't know exactly if it's good or not.

Well, I'm guessing that the shutdown has at least started... Hoping this doesn't affect my trip to Canada much, since I'm flying. Hopefully nothing too serious will happen (still hoping Obamacare gets denied though), and my grandparents won't be without their pension for too long...

In a way with the Government shutdown, if effects some people in a positive way or a negative way, mostly depending on the person, some was planning on going to national monuments, but can't now because they're closed.

I didn't actually expect it to happen, I thought something would happen and somebody would change their minds about the shutdown.

This is really going to help you to pay all the debt you already have. And this is really going to help for the rest of the world to give you more loans.
