Good day fellow Vizzed members.

I thought about creating this topic as I'm kind of going through some rough health issues (nothing serious...I hope). About a couple of days ago, I've been having some trouble with my groin area (still do sort of) and have had a hard time dropping bombs (if you get my drift). Since I don't have a doctor that I go to (I'm scheduled to go next month), I attempted to find out what the problem could be. So I made a list of my symptoms and decided to check online. Needless to say some of the answers kind of freaked me out as signs pointed to me that I might have colon cancer!

Now I for one would be devastated if this is true, but most likely its not since I don't have some of the symptoms (abdominal pain, blood in the stool, nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite). But this didn't help me try to calm myself done. I started to have a panic attack. Just this one symptom of having a hard time going number 2, and I believe that I might have colon cancer. I kept thinking to myself...

"I got to get to a doctor right away!". "I hope I don't have colon cancer". "Am I going to die before I reach age 30?". "I better look up how much chemotherapy costs."

Yesterday I was quite shaken, but today I've come to the realization that I most likely don't have colon cancer as I don't have most of the symptoms (I most likely have some sort of virus).

I've also done something similar a couple of years ago.

When I was little I had HORRIBLE tooth pain. This was the worse pain I've felt in my entire life (even tearing a section of my knee to the point that you could see some fat cells wasn't as painful). I didn't had a dentist at the time, so for about 2 weeks I had this awful pain that kept me awake at night and couldn't keep my mind on something. All the time I kept thinking to myself during this time was...

"Oh my God they are going to have to pull a tooth". "I might have to rethink my eating habits". "What if my other teeth get infected, they might have to pull all my other teeth out."

In the end I just got a root canal (that was also painful, but not as bad as the tooth pain).

It seems that every time I get sick, I go into a panic and think that I have something worse then it actually is. Usually I never get sick (besides allergies based on the environment changing), but when I do I get really nervous and anxious.

So folks, have you ever done what I did? Have you ever thought the worse when you got sick with something?

Yes I do panic, The feeling is horrible. But my threshold is kinda high so I only get worried when It is serious. I once had an eye infection and was in hospital for months, it was really bad. They gave me medicine through a kinda robot thing that would put it into my blood stream straight from a vein on my arm. Little did they know I was allergic to the medicine so it in my blood stream made me very sick. And I was sick tons, they changed the drug and I was out of hospital, though it was later than intended.

No I don't panic usually I just shake the cold off which usually takes four or three days and it is just a little cold it barely doesn't do any harm just a runny nose and a little cough.
When I do I may go get some medicine at the pharmacy but I never make no big deal over it.

No, I don't really panic when I am sick, mostly because I rarely get sick and also because I know I will get better within a few days so I really don't find the need to panic about it, because i know I will get better. And also because I am sick with little things like a stuffy nose or a sore throat or something, nothing serious. So to answer your question, no I do not panic when I am sick.

Now if it was relating to an illness or a disease or something serious then I will be concerned about it and probably panic a little bit. But if it is just a little cold or something, I really don't worry about it too much because I know it will go away.

I don't panic because that's a waste of time. I try and deal with it myself usually by self medicating where appropriate.

For example: I get a cold that's hanging on for a little too long, so I take over the counter cold and flu remedy (making sure to read the labels if I take anything else as they contain paracetamol and I don't fancy another trip to A&E because of OD. You'd be surprised how often people do that by accident because they don't realise).

If it's really bad I sleep off as much as I can to preserve energy so my immune system can do its job.

I listen to what my body's telling me and act accordingly. I try and avoid antibiotics because my body tends to not play nicely with medications.

Oldschool41: I do not usually.  The only disease or infection I have ever had that could possibly kill me is Strep Throat.
The symptoms were:
  • sudden fever
  • sore throat (red throat with white patches)
  • headache
  • chills
  • loss of appetite
  • swollen lymph nodes in the neck

I also had Tonsillitis, same as Strep, but less severe

    Symptoms:

  • a very sore throat
  • difficulty swallowing or painful swallowing
  • a scratchy-sounding voice
  • bad breath
  • fever
  • chills
  • earaches
  • stomach aches
  • headaches
  • a stiff neck
  • jaw and neck tenderness (due to swollen lymph nodes)
  • tonsils that appear red and swollen
  • tonsils that have white or yellow spots

  • Same chart:

    Red - I Had                    Green - I didn't Have                         Orange - I don't know If I did

I hope this is not spam. If it is, I am very sorry. I do not know.

    I hope you care.

Nah, the most I do is get irritated. I know I'll be all nice and good later, so why panic? There's no use to it. A waste of time, really. So, yeah, I don't notice really.

I honestly think there's no reason to panic. Mainly because I catch the cold at least 3 or 4 times a year. If I got this time of year then I'd probably be a little happy since I'd get a few days of from school.

Well, usually I wouldn't panic when I'm sick. But I sometimes do panic when I have a feeling of throwing up because it is a very painful process for me. I hate it when it happens to me.

That is why I NEVER Google my symptoms. I usually don't freak out when I'm sick. I usually do the opposite. I think it's just a little virus and I wait. I usually only go to the doctor if it gets really bad or it doesn't go away after a few days.

No panic, just kind of an impending doom feeling. I have come to the realization that at this point I'm probably closer to death than I am to birth.

I'm not the type of person who rushes to the doctor every time I get the common cold. I'm usually not that worried when I come down with something, I just hope it goes away quickly. Only if it gets really bad do I go to the doctor.

A lot of the time, I am able to self-medicate minor illnesses without the use of pharmaceutical drugs. I've used oregano oil, garlic, and coconut oil with success in the past. All of which have anti-bacterial properties.

I have suffered through a pretty bad Strep throat infection before. I know how nasty a bacterial infection can be, so I try to watch for signs of that, including swollen lymph nodes. If it's an infection I want to get on antibiotics as soon as possible.

I do not panic when I get sick. Instead, I just get a little unhappy or irritated with it. I don't really like getting sick most of the time. It bothers me a bit.

I panic a little bit because I wake up in the morning suffocating. >.< Then I am just upset that I'm sick because I still have to clean and cook food for everyone...But it's mainly just being upset, and a little bit of panic.

Not really, I just try to relax and let it pass. To be honest, I kind of welcome sickness, it's midway through October and I am one of few to still be wearing short sleeve shirts.

No. I actually celebrate that I don't have to go to school. However, it feels horrible and sometimes I wish I could go to school. Yes, I'm a nerd.

I was trying to stay away from this thread, but I really felt the need to ask something.  See.... I hate being sick, but I don't panic and I don't feel that I overreact.

HOWEVER, I feel like EVERY male I have EVER known acts like he is coming down with the bubonic plague whenever he gets a cold.  My mother said that she always noticed the same thing.

Does anyone else feel this to be the case, or are our (my mother's and my own) experiences just too restricted?  If it's true, why do you think it is?
