As far as anime goes, I'd probably have to go with Attack on Titan, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Fate/Zero, Darker Than Black or Code Geass. I can't pick just one of them, so all of them will have to suffice. Every single aforementioned title is brilliant, and they should definitely be given a shot if you haven't seen them yet.
