Users will either love this or hate this but remember that this was a feature vizzed use to have years ago and is among the top 5 most requested features.

The Post Rating system is a way to separate the helpful posts from the potentially offensive posts. To the bottom left of every post, you have the option to 'Like' or 'Dislike' a post. Liking it will increasing the rating of the post by 1 and reward the user who made the post; disliking the post does the opposite.

When a post is positively rated, the rating user is listed below the post and the rated user receives a notification of their rated post and will also receive both CP and Viz. As a way to encourage users to rate posts, users also gain a small amount of CP and Viz for rating posts but there are strict limits based on powerlevel.

The thread pages show the overall rating of each thread to the far right. This rating is based on all of the Likes and Dislikes within the thread. This will help users identify the good threads from the bad threads.

While there's a daily limit on how much CP and Viz you can earn from rating posts, there's also a daily limit on how many times you can rate posts. Here's the limits based on powerlevel:
Newbie = 4
Normal = 6
Trusted = 8
Elite = 10
Site Staff = 16
Moderators = 20
Globals = 40

Liking a post only counts as 1 point toward your daily limit but disliking a post counts as 4. So in other words, a Newbie can choose to either 1 dislike 1 post in a day or like 4 posts. These limits will help prevent abuse.


Hopefully this new feature will encourage users to help each other and be more polite. We'll see how the feature goes and I'm sure I'll be making adjustments to make it more balanced and to reduce abuse.

While I was at it, I also placed a reply to post link to the bottom of posts. I also placed a 'Post Rating' on everyone's profile which is based on the users total likes and dislikes combined.

Can you see who disliked a post or just who liked one?

So what will be done with these? Will it just be a score for each post? Why not make a page where the highest rated posts are placed?

I like this idea a lot. I had a feeling this would be implemented sooner or later.

I like the feature so far it works fine and all but there is room for abuse with the system but then again no system is perfect. I do have a question tho every time some one likes a post will the receiver gain 4.5 Contribution Points and 75 Viz each time?

That is a great post feature! When I start posting regularly again in October I'll have to remember to use that so I can gain more CP and Viz faster!

It wont show the like/dislike button on my screen. One thing I don't like about this is the thing on your profile that says how many points you have. If you have a negative number, I don't think it is a good idea to show everyone that. It makes me feel bad to see I already have a -1.

I like this idea. I just hope no one will abuse it even with those limits in place.

I agree in part with Elpizo, especially at the Rating down.

There's always a member who rates down users just because they don't like/hate him/her. However, Limiting dislikes is a really good idea to prevent this.

But, As you said, It's better to wait and see how this goes.

For the moment, this seems a good idea for me.
 

Yeah I think this may get out of hand if people dislike each other and they will down rate their posts just for that, and for no legitimate reason, because they don't like them. I think it could be a very useful feature and I like the way it is so far, but I just have a feeling that some users will abuse it and they will go out of control with down rating other people's posts or rating them because they are friends. But I like it so far, I just have a feeling some people will abuse this feature regardless of the rules and limitations put into place.

while there may be a small chance for abuse of this system David has set it up in such a way that disliking someone's post once a day is going to have a minor impact compared to liking. And with the limits the way they are anyone who is normal or newbie can only dislike once per day. That really slows down the would be trolls. After that it's still only 2 at trusted and elite which keeps things pretty slow.

I honestly see this being used fairly sparingly. Most people can only like 6-10 posts per day so they aren't going to just hand them out to whoever.

Well, this certainly helps more if people either make spam or quality.helpful posts, instead of making a flaming response, for one thing.

Is there a reason why I don't see the button on my screen? I think that with all features, it all comes down to the activeness of the members to avoid abuse. Think of YouTube. They have a like and dislike button for videos. It is rare to see one popular video that doesn't have some amount of dislikes, no matter how good the video is. But those dislikes won't matter because of the fact that the majority of viewers like the video, which makes the red bar look insignificant. I think that like all features, this could be abused, but it would be up to the activeness of the members to make the right judgment on what is a good post and what is an inappropriate post. There is the option of not rating it too if you don't want to convey the wrong idea about the post. We'll have to wait and see how the community reacts to the feature.

Personally, I don't like it. I feel it will be abused, and without a real point, I feel. Maybe it could end up alright. The biggest problem, like some others have said, is that you have to be active. And I wouldn't be active, because I'd rather not deal with that.

A small add to the posting system, and I am okay with it. Might be a bit off with the dislike, but it shows the "quality" of most users, and might give them an impression that they need to improve.
