So, I got engaged. Here is what she said when she said yes: 

"Just know in the end I said yes I just want you to actually propose to me in person. I love you and I guess you #1 now good night / morning" 

So... does anybody have any suggestions? Maybe advice? Help? Or just want to comment on this? I really love her, and want to spend the rest of my life with her... I just want to get advice from the older people, and married people, on what to do, and how to keep it going, you know?

When do you see her next? Just because she wants an in person proposal doesn't mean you have to do something over the top or dramatic or anything. I proposed to my wife during a late night walk through a park. It doesn't have to be a super fancy restaurant or at the top of the Eiffel tower or anything.

Congrats man, I know that you will treat her right and have a great relationship with her. I think it is cool that you will propose with a pokeball, that is very unique and I like that idea, sometimes simplicity is better than being overly dramatic with things, I am so happy for you. I hope that you are happy and I know that things will work out and you will have an amazing life with her. Congratulations and I wish you a happy future!

Contrary to what geeogree said, that big fancy moment is something you can remember forever, and the "how I proposed to her" story is something you will be telling for years, so make sure its good. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it helps.

No matter how much you might want to, don't talk to her on the phone for too long. That may sound weird, but eventually, more quickly than you will realize, you will run out of stuff to talk about. And that is the most awkward thing ever, you don't want her to think that you already have run out of things to talk about before you even get married, that isn't the case with most girls, but it is with some.

About wedding planning, whatever she says, nod and smile, it works.

ender44 : Well, I talked to her and my grandparents today, and we want to get married in my grandparents yard, just like my grandparents ( or was is it my father and mother) did. She thinks it's great and romantic.

Well done on getting engaged, I think she is right then again women are always right so who am I to argue. Have you thought about setting a date or honeymoon it should take about a month to plan and but everything.

Good on you to propose.  

Marriage is a tough thing to get into and it's a tremendous amount of work.  It takes effort and it's the hardest thing I do.  Every day has to see effort to keep the thing together.

I've been married 7 years and we still work on it.  You two will grow and change and be different people from start to finish.  The trick is to be close enough together several years later so you still love and like each other.

Tips?  It's your relationship and I won't tell you what to do but I can tell what I do.

1.  Say no.  Don't roll over and do everything she says all the time.  Stand your ground and do things you like.  Most guys figure they can't make decisions anymore.  I started out like that.  Things got better as I started saying no.  She's not your boss.

2.  Be active in apologizing.  You will mess up.  Tell her you're sorry and don't do it again.

3.  Live your own life.  Do your own things.  Don't always do what you think she wants or likes.  Do what you want or like.  It's your life too.

4.  Figure it out.  It's your marriage and you'll see what it's like.  It's hard.

Congrats man. Nice to see you growing up from a little boy in the army to a little boy in the army who is engaged, lol. Anyway, hope it goes all well and be happy with her and that there would be no dull moment in life.

thing1 : What I'm saying is you'll have kinks all your life.  That's how it works.  You just have to be able to not roll over when she gets upset about certain things.  Own yourself, be your own man within the frame of the marriage, and dont' just do what she wants all the time to make her happy.

Just like work, she will not tell me what to do. She can ask or make suggestions, but she is not about to demand anything.
