Yesterday my average word count was 169, which I'm pretty sure is accurate.  I'm always paying attention to the number of words in my posts, and I try to stick around my average or higher.  Today when I looked at my profile though, my word count dropped to 131!  Considering I hardly made any posts yesterday.... and the mass amount of lower word count posts I would have had to have made....... 

I'm assuming there was a change in calculation?  I do have confirmation that this happened to several people, at least.  Or did someone go on a mass "Ignore Word Count" spree?

I've never seen such a tremendous drop before, and I have almost 4,300 posts, many of a decent length.  I'm not interested in doing the math, but it would take TONS of very, very short posts for my word count to drop by nearly 30 words.  It certainly isn't possible through what little I posted yesterday.

Anyone else having this problem or knowing what is going on?  (I'm going to check my word count after this and record what happened.  This post is 194 words according to the bottom of this posting area.)

EDIT:  The word count was still 131.

I have a similar problem, actually. While my word count is pretty much the same as always (Maybe off by a number or two?), my Post Exp dropped tremendously. I was around spot 20 on the list with about 273,000, about to pass Ziggy, and I'm now down almost 10,000 from there. Since I'm self centered, I can't say whether or not I know this happened to anyone else on that list. To me, it doesn't look as if anyone else dropped a lot, but that's within vague memory. Ziggy is still at 273,000, so that kind of has me on edge a bit with the feeling it wasn't some sort of site error.

I stopped caring about it.
It could be a glitch. It may not be. It could be the modern world is killing our braincells and soon we will be zombies. "BRAINS".....
I posed this question a while back and I had very little responce.
I also noticed that some of the numerical word counts on my posts were odd.
Like 111 or 222 or 333 and so on and so on. Double digit is more common but I'll wager that is all coincidence anyway.
Try not to get hung up on the small stuff. (Particularly on-line.)

I have not heard of anyone complain about moving books (Why does an edjucation have to be so heavy?) when they move in so long I think half the population might be unable to read anyway. (Note: I am in California currently.)
Just be thankful the modern world has not crippled you to the point of needing the cell phone to call "911" to solve the issue of "getting lost in a Corn Field". (One of my favourite news reports.)
I recommend a good drive to some new location and a change from the daily grind. (Does the term "R and R" still apply?)

Yes, I am always for a high word average. Mine is currently at 147 and it dropped to 145 yesterday. I don't know why but I feel the need to keep it high and I try to make my posts as detailed as possible by keeping the word count up. I don't think I am having this problem and if it was yesterday then I only experienced a word count drop of 2 from 147 which is odd because all of the posts I had  made then were 150-200 and it didn't go back up and then I made a review that was 1400 words and that got my word count go up. I find it odd that whenever I write a 1,000-1,500 word review it raises my word count like 1 or 2. I have a post exp of 128,034 not including this post ad I think that is pretty good and that is really high for only 873 posts. I hope you get your problem fixed and sorted out soon!

Singelli : I did the math for you... your average is accurate. And I checked your posts... doesn't look like they were ignored... and you have had some smaller posts lately. 

thing1 : Like I said, it's less to do with the average, more the Post Exp. I decided to bring that up because the two could technically be considered related.

thing1 :  The number of words you have typed is what gains you your posting experience.  However, I believe that also includes your NUMBER of posts.... somehow.  Of course, I don't know the exact calculations.

I know some of my more recent posts have been small.  But there CERTAINLY haven't been enough smaller posts to bring my average down by more than THIRTY points.  And also... the change occurred in one day, making that even less likely.

I didn't think anyone would have gone on a mass word ignoring spree, but it just seems so odd for this to suddenly happen.  I try pretty hard to make sure my posts are of high quality most of the time, and while word count certainly doesn't equal quality, it is still nice to see it up there.  Besides, if there's a glitch on the forum, it'd be nice to find it out and make David aware of it.  Obviously, it would be just about the last thing on his to-do list for obvious reasons, but there are always things to fix and always ways to improve.  It's definitely not something I'd bellyache about.  I was just curious if it had happened to a lot of people, or only a few.

Mines has also dropped but I don't really care about it. I believe all of this is normal and it doesn't matter in my opinion.

This happened to me also, My word average dropped from 71 to 34, And so did my Post experince! That went down by 40,000+! I do not know what's going on here, but whatever it is, This source needs something done with it.

GameBoy1023 : I think I actually remember that happening to you.

I have an answer to this: I recently ran a script which recalculated everyone's Post Exp. There was a bug on the site that was giving users more Post Exp than what they really earned. This bug has been patched and since the script has been ran, everyone's Post Exp is currently accurate.

And aww.. now I have to work really, really hard to get my word count back up.    (I tease)

It's still kinda surprising though that after all the posts I tried to keep around 170..... phew...... It's going to take a LOT of work to get it back up, I can see.

EDIT:  Whoa.... I just looked and... I don't know how I missed THAT before!  My word experience dropped by about 100,000! WOW!  It doesn't look like the person above me on the member list changed by much though.  Was it affecting different users in different ways?  Man, now I'm 300,000 words behind the next person up.    I was eager to move ahead of them and watching that closing gap!  Now it feels like I'll never close it.... LOL
