So I, myself, am a average Hockey fan (*Holds up Team Canada sign*) and I was trying to start up a conversation with a friend of mine. I asked him, "So, do you like Hockey?" and he said he didn't know much about hockey, if not anything about hockey. I then began to wonder whether or not Hockey was underrated, and me knowing there are lots of sports fans on Vizzed (And in General.)  I thought I could make this a question for you all. So, do you feel Hockey is underrated?

Very much so, actually. I personally believe hockey has the toughest athletes in the world, and there are others who agree with me. It's also a very straight-forward game, with basic rules, yet is so fun to play! Hockey's got a great fan-base, but I believe it should be more popular than it is.

Yes, it is very underrated. It's pretty sad, because I feel it's by far the fastest pace, and requires so much strength. I really wish it got more publicity. Maybe if the nhl didn't have a lockout every six years, it could reach out to more people.

I agree it is a bit underrated but I guess it all depends on your location you could live somewhere where basketball can be underrated but baseball is overrated.

I think hockey is an awesome sport and I think that goes mostly from where you are from and if hockey is like a popular sport there. Hockey has great athletes and I think people in Canada and Russia have some of the toughest hockey players out there. I enjoy watching the sport when I can and I think that it is really awesome and is a challenging sport to master because you need skill, good coordination and timing and good accuracy and reflexes. So yes I think the sport is a little underrated and that it is a great sport that deserves more appreciation. I enjoy watching hockey whenever I have the time. I like the caps personally.

I think that next year, if there is no lock out, Hockey would be more popular, the lock out brought lower ratings to the games. I personally will watch Hockey regardless.

You present a valid point, Kyle. And to be honest, I would have to say it is. I mean... hockey does not get the attention it deserves. For crying out loud, gymnastics gets more attention that hockey.

I actually do feel that hockey is underrated mainly because many people are looking for a game that has more points scored yet hockey is good because they're like ferocious warriors battling for the Stanley cup .

I think Hockey is VERY under appreciated by Americans because we see football as the greatest thing every. Most people I have asked have either answered they have never tried it or just can not keep up with what is going on because it is too fast paced. Pathetic

Hockey isn't underrated.  It's simply not popular.  It is an expensive sport to play and get into in the U.S. because we don't have the natural ice time on ponds and lakes you do.  Try talking to a kid from our most populated areas like Texas, California, or Florida about hockey and you'll get a blank stare.  They don't watch it because they don't go outside and go play for hours.

Basketball?  Easy to put together a team and go play in the park.  Soccer and baseball are pretty easy to organize and football is easy.  Hockey?  You need a flat surface, nets, sticks, skates, and equipment.  It's too much to put together unless you're in a league in Minnesota or Michigan somewhere.

I find it unwatchable.  Even when they took off the two-line pass rule it's still unengaging.  I can't stay focused when it's on and I switch the channel to find something else.

I think hockey is rather interesting, but I'm not an avid fan of it. I catch a game or two every once in a while, but usually the Nashville Predators are losing so I really don't pay too much attention to it.
