The technology around today is in many ways better but lacks in some areas particularly the reliability and durability when it comes to consoles. Tough question. It's a toss up for me between the 80's and the 90's both eras made huge jumps in what they did with games/consoles. Everything back then was new and exciting. Things these days are just stale to me. Sure great graphics, but how many huge advancements are they really making now that weren't being invented in the 90s?

The 16 bit era was the best. The competition between Sega and Nintendo was tight, but that wasn't all. There was a whole slew of crappy consoles released during this time, consoles that had better graphics but super crappy games. 3DO, Atari Jaguar, Philips CDI. Are just a few of them. There were quite a bit of leaps in technology.

I have to say that my faverite era has to be in the 1990's, the reason, you got the SNES and Genesis console wars, you got the short Virtual Boy reign, you got the debut of modern consoles came out like the PS1 and N64, and a lot other stuff.

     I keep seeing commercials for "The Last of Us". It looks amazing...  great graphics, detailed characters/environment. Looks like a crazy story to get behind as well.
     All I keep wondering... Is this a movie that you press buttons too? That's what new games feel like to me. I have friends who STINK at video games(my NES, SNES, Sega, PS1 stuff), but are always beating these new games?! Quickly I might add... That tells me their is little to no challenge in these games. Interactive movies...  
     I could be wrong but that's how I feel at the moment.

90-99 for me, the golden era of gaming in my opinion.

I think the best era of video games is from 1980-2000 because that is when all of my favorite games like mario, Pokémon and sonic and all of those games came out, and lets not forget the fun classics like pac man and galaga and all of those other arcade games came out and became popular during that period. Plus thee were huge advances with the consoles and the whole gaming experience in that time frame. I think those are when some of the games came from. Of course there are some great Pokémon games and mario bros games for wii u and 3ds which are pretty good, but aside from that all the games now are about zombies, killing and war and I just think those kind of games are a little overrated, and I think games are just getting worse and less creative except fir the good mario and Pokémon ones which even still is getting less creative with some of the weird Pokémon but nevertheless they have left me with lots of video games to play.
