What would you do if you were one of the last people left on earth. A disaster of some sort has destroyed most buildings (The non destroyed ones are heavily damaged) and has killed most of the population of the world. You happen to stumble across some of your friends and decide to band together. You are your friends are not alone though. There are some other groups of people who are willing to kill you for your supplies. What would you do in a situation like this? |

Hah. I'm one of those weirdos who has a plan for just such a scenario, lmao. Seriously. I can't figure out how to pay my bills, but in the case of a catastrophic event, I'm the man you'd want by your side. I know how how to purify water four different ways, how to grow plants that will keep you alive even if the clouds kept most plants from growing (no sunlight), how to rig up a water wheel for electricity... The first thing you'd want to do, seriously, is find yourself a radiation counter. With the sheer number of nuclear plants scattered around the world, not to mention the holding pools and such, you want to make sure you're not in the fallout that's sure to come. Otherwise there's no point in doing anything else-if you're going to die from radiation poisoning, you might as well just end it quick and get it over with. Once you've secured your radiation gear, the second thing you'd need to do is find yourself a safe, defensible position. You'd think that taking over a military base or something would be the best, but in the event you're describing it's likely that the bases would be destroyed too. Underground is actually the best thing to do-start digging. No matter where you are, you can insulate yourself from heat, cold, bad air, and attack with a fairly crude underground facility. You'd need to make sure you had multiple exits, so you were never caught trapped in your lair, and multiple sources of air, water and electricity. Speaking of electricity, you can rig yourself up a fairly simple solar setup with a few basic supplies, or a waterwheel set up, but it shouldn't be your first focus. You can live quite well without it, honestly, as long as you have some basic skills. The first thing you need to do is find someplace safe, and then you need to focus on food and water. Water is the most vital part. It's unlikely that you're going to find a nice source of clean, drinkable water so you're going to need to evaluate your water situation. You're going to need to work out some simple purification processes, and boil every bit of water you drink with (and wash with!). Water rationing is going to be the first and most important rule you institute. Water is strictly for drinking and cooking. So people are going to start smelling; deal with it. Beware the chemicals in the water. Rain is going to be super-nasty for awhile and so is any source of water on the ground-every bit of nasty chemicals released into the air are going straight to the clouds to be rained down on the poor earth. I'd recommend staying out of the rain for a long time. Food is your next concern. Don't trust anything that's not in a can or tough plastic container. Send out scavenging parties as soon as you have a safe place to store the food. Gather as many cans of everything as you can-even dog food ,while not great for you, would be preferable to starving. Once you have a store of canned food, start thinking about fresh food. If you're lucky enough to have this happen in the spring, summer or fall, start planning a garden or greenhouse asap. Grab as many food producing plants as you can, get them planted and bearing, and plan on harvesting the seeds. Long term planning is the only thing that will keep you safe. Now, a word about weapons and defense....you'd think that the best thing would be to grab up weapons and walk around bristling with guns, yeah? Wrong! Yes, you should probably grab guns and ammo, but think about how people act when they get weapons. Suddenly they're safe, they're the big man around, and they act like they are invincible. Keep in mind that there's a good chance that neither you nor your friends have ever even actually shot a weapon of any kind in your life. It's not a simple thing; you can't just pick up a gun and shoot like a killer. You're going to be best off if you act like you don't have weapons at all. Depend on stealth, quickness, and avoidance of trouble. If you see other groups, hide! Hide the entrances to your safe house. Skulk around like thieves in the night. Avoid conflict whenever possible. If you're burning fires, learn to baffle the smoke so you can't pinpoint your fires. If you figure out how to rig electricity, seal the light away so you can't see it from the outside. Choose one main way out of your safe house, then trap the holy crap out of the bolt-holes so that if someone does discover them, they don't make it too far inside. Assume every group out there is going to be hostile. That seems a bit crazy, maybe, but you can't take the chance. Admit single people into your group carefully, but avoid any groups that are more than a quarter larger than your own. Avoid allowing your group to grow faster than your resources can support. Be vicious. And this will be the hardest thing for almost everyone (me including). IF YOU SHOOT, SHOOT TO KILL. You can't afford to wound. You can't afford prisoners. You can't afford mercy. Sounds rough, doesn't it? Well, that's the basics of my plan. There's a lot more, detailed stuff. I sit and think about this stuff when I'm bored. Do I expect this to ever happen? Lol no. The first thing I.would do is get my girlfriend. Then, I would take her to Hawaii, to the island of Ohua, and get rid of the zombie problem, one island at a time. While I would be doing all of this, I would be working on repopulating the earth, and filling up M16A2 magazines with my 5.56 rounds. I would make the occasional visit to the contential United States, to see if there are any survivors that want to come to Hawaii and help us make Hawaii a legitimate safe haven for the hunan populace, and to repopulate, because two people is not enough. After Hawaii is completely taken care of, I would put out an All Points Bulletin in the United States, tell all survivors to come to Hawaii, because I am gking to drop hundreds of nuclear missiles on trhe States with the help of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian survivors to take care of all the zombies. Once the radiation had faded away almost entirely, long after I died, I would have it in place for border control to police the States from another zombie invasion, while my population from Hawaii is moving back into the zombie free States. It's amazing how quickly it spreads over large distances. And remember that even a little bit can cause sickness, mutations and sterility. Plus you have to realize that it takes more time than I think you're giving it for the radiation to clear. I'd think a better idea would be a systematic sweep of the United States with an advancing "Safe" zone line. It would be harder, yeah, and dirty work, but it has the benefit of being able to be completed in your lifetime, maybe, and you could pick up the survivors instead of making them try to make it to you. Plus you could gather supplies and rebuild communities as you went, ensuring that your survivors had safe places to be behind the advancing line, which would advance your recolonization timeline by a generation, at least. I would party! Depending on how many people survived of course.... I would try and find a few other people to hang out with but for the most part I would just party. You would have about as much stuff as you could ever want and as long as you could keep the power going you would be set. That wouldn't last long though which would suck. |

First thing I'd do (if the group would go along) would be to find a relatively secluded spot, probably in the woods somewhere. Then I would find weapons, or fashion some more primitive ones if there are no weapons left. I'd also encourage eveyone to find someone else in the group to marry, and raise a family with. The reason being, the world would need to be repopulated. If we died off without kids, humanity would likely be extinct (depending on how many others survived). Also high on the list would be building stands in the trees for lookout, defensive attacks, and hunting. And the building of primitive walls, and maybe digging trenches that were several feet wide and maybe six feet deep. These could all be used to make a defensive position to protect us from others that would kill us. A camp of sorts. |

Eirinn: That is what I was thinking about doing. I would also find a secluded spot, preferably in the woods, and commute into the cities or towns to scavenge supplies. Kind of what they did in the first season of The Walking Dead. That way you have good camouflage and you will have a good lay of the land before anyone happens to come stumbling along and find your camp. You would be able to initiate guerilla warfare in the woods and potentially have the upper hand. I would most likely find some shelter for the woods too, maybe if I can get my hands on some camping trailers I could camouflage them so they don't stand out as much but I may just be going a bit overboard here. That probably is not going to happen. |

I'd cry my eyes out and be very afraid, scarred and very depressed (If friends and family died) I would try to find a sane, wise adult to help me, some new friends to accompany me, a doctor, a teacher and other valuable people . I would also learn some skills I need. One more thing I would do is find the best place to live, where can grow all sorts of food at least nature occurences. |

Yeah, I would try to restart from scratch. Build myself a mansion, steal a few very nice cars, and then rebuild the human race from scratch. Know if it is like a zombie apocalypse, I would gather up the few people still left, and gather the best weapons and fight them off. I would also take the time to relax and not worry about school and do whatever I want without rules, limitations and expectations for a while, I would play xbox, wii, and come on vizzed more often. I would also be very sad if my family wasn't here on the earth anymore. |
