I believe there's a thread like this already, but I couldn't find it and so I apologize if it's there.

That being said, people have the tendency to be strange, don't they?

For example, I cannot eat anything with bread, if condiments are applied directly onto the bread.  (Well, I could, but it'd be difficult for me.)  I don't have anything against it, but the -one- food I can't stand is soggy bread.  Soggy bread makes me gag, and it's the only food I've ever tried that does so.  There's something about it that I just can't get past, and usually I can't finish a meal if I taste some because it disgusts me that much.  Well, when I got married, my husband would sometimes make me sandwiches to take to work, and by the time my lunch break came around, they'd be soggy.  Our solution then, was to place the condiments on other surfaces (such as between two meat slices).  For example, if I eat a hot dog, sliced cheese gets placed n the bread, and the condiments get placed between the hot dog and the cheese.

Well, he's been doing that for four years now, and I recently discovered that I can no longer stomach the idea of condiments on bread. Before, I could as long as I ate the sandwich fresh before the condiments had a chance to soak into the bread. No longer can I do so, even if the sandwich is fresh.

People are strange, no?

So what are some of your strange tendencies?
(Newsflash:  I'm not looking for 'cliche' bizarre habits, such as having wipe down surfaces like door handles because you're a germophobe.  I mean truly unique habits.  ^.^)

I'm not sure if others are like this, but for me, both sides of me need to be "even". Like, if I touch something that I maybe didn't expect, my right hand needs to touch a similar thing. Sometimes it is really bad, like I'm going crazy, but most of the time I can somewhat control it. And it is not just touching. Even muscle movements need to be equal on both sides. That is the most annoying.

Okay, so this will sound really weird, but please don't judge me. I have Anorexia Nervosa, so I have patterns of how I eat my food. First, I drink my fluid, then I go on to my fruit. Once I do this, then I move onto my vegetables, then my grains, and then the meat for last. It is a very weird pattern, but it really helps me eat, because I feel like I am in control of how and when I eat due to this disease. It really does help though, and I have been in and out of recovery, however, this simple pattern helps put peace into my mind.

mscoral :    Actually and interestingly enough, I kind of understand.  As a young child and in my earlier teen years, I could only eat in a certain order and in a certain fashion.  While I didn't eat in order of food types, I had to eat in the order of food preference.  And I for some reason, could NEVER sip my drink -during- the meal.

For example, if there were three foods on my plate, and I distinctly liked some more than others, I'd have to eat my least favorite, the next most- liked food, and finally my favorite on the plate. Furthermore, once I started the first food, I could not take a bit of any other food until that one was finished.  I couldn't comfortably take any drinks either, waiting until my plate was completely cleared to have the liquid all at once.

I'm not sure what changed, but I'm no longer like that as an adult.  I think one day it just dawned on me that there was NOT some unforeseen rule that said I can't sip my drink in between bites of food.  Once I felt 'brave' enough to drink -during- my meal, the rest fell into place and I now feel comfortable eating like a normal person.  LOL

Like I said, it was a strange habit, and I carried it for a strangely long amount of time.  I don't think I snapped out of it until I was 17 or so, possibly later.

I am the same way with bread, although bread and butter is the only exception.

Anyway, patar took mine If I touch something with one hand, foot, etc, the other one must do so. But it can't be something similar. has to be that thing. This does not just apply to touch though. It is anything. If one joint pops, I must pop the opposing one. If I scratch one ear due to an itch, I have to scratch the other ear in the exact same place with the same finger (of the opposite hand). Pretty much everything must happen to both sides of me or it drives me nuts. I just feel it.

Along with that, I have to do everything an EVEN number of times. So if I touch something, I have to do it with both sides an even amount of times. That is doing that thing a minimum of 4 times. Odd numbers bother me. If my dogs lick my face and they stop on an odd number of licks, I will have them lick me one more time to make it even.

This kind of applies to stairs too. First, I have to step on each stair. I can't skip stairs. So when I go up the stairs, that is the odd amount of times, so I make sure I step on each stair when I go back down later to make it an even amount of steps for each stair. I do the same thing with stepping stones when walking across my yard. I am actually the same way when walking on the sidewalk. The sidewalk is split up into squares or rectangles. I must step on each on an even amount of times. I will literally take one very tiny step if I know walking normal will make me step on it an odd amount of times.

So for me, everything must happen to both halves of me exactly, and I do pretty much everything an even amount of times.

I am similar to mscoral; I have a ritual in how I eat and drink things. When I wake up, I must have my juice first (or heavy amounts of water if we are out of juice). Then I wait 30 minutes minimum before I eat breakfast. Then I must wait another minimum of 30 minutes before I do any of my yoga stretches for the day (I have to do them before work to prevent getting any strains). The thing is, I can actually break these habits, but just get put into a bad mood when I have to.

I also do not drink anything but water with my meals; juice and other beverages I usually treat as a snack itself. Only exception to the rule is when I am at restaurants, I might drink something like sprite/sierra mist or ginger ale with the meal, mainly cause bottled water at restaurants tends to be expensive and I do not want their tap water.

rcarter2 : Oh yeah, butter is an exception for me too though I hadn't thought of it.    Kind of weird though.. I've never met anyone that was the same way with bread.  You wanna know something even weirder?  About a year ago, I had bread pudding for the first time (and it was pretty dry).  I LOVED it, and when I asked how it was made, I kind of had this.... moment of WOW- I- CAN'T- BELEIVE- I- ATE- THAT!!!!  LOL However, because the kind I had was so dry, it doesn't really bother me and I'd eat it again if bread pudding is always that dry.

You did make me think of another one though.  I hate odd numbers too... But strangely enough on any volume meter, my volume MUST be set at a multiple of five. I simply can not stand to leave the volume at, say, 13 or 14.  I would have to bump it up to 15.

ruesen :
It sounds like you eat how I wish I did.  LOL

Kudos for your husband accommodating your soggy bread problem. You can tell him thumbs up for that, I don't think I would do that unless she wasn't eating.

I don't know if this is unoriginal but if I'm idle for any amount of time then I drum my fingers or feet in a order that begins with how the pattern was initiated. A example would be if I started moving my middle finger then I sequence would start from that. Depending on the finger or toe then it varies, each finger or toe has a pattern that follows. They varies from simple one two three and back again to a complex pattern that starts from that certain appendage. This is kind of weird and obsessive but it keeps my mind in order and helps me with alot of things.

I've noticed a few more bizarre tendencies that are almost laughable.

I make weird, random noises when I'm really tired.  Like... completely random noises.  LOL  I was sitting at the table several weeks ago, eating a 'Now and Later' or whatever those chewy square candies are called.  Well, apparently, I was holding it like a squirrel, making the most amusing nom- nom noises.  My husband looked over at me, and watched me for a few seconds before he asked "What the heck are you doing?!?!"  I paused and wondered what he was talking about.  It took me a few minutes to realize what I had been doing, and I almost died from laughter!  I've paid a lot of attention to myself since then and I've noticed I do it a LOT. If I'm really tired, I just start making sooooo many completely random sounds.  O.o'  I have no idea why.

I also rock back and forth a lot.  Sometimes it makes people think I have a mental problem.  I don't know why I do that either.  :/  I especially do it if I'm trying to make myself do something I don't want to do or feel I can't do.... and if I'm tired.  I'll often rock when I'm grading, when I'm sitting up late, or even when I'm trying to force myself to keep going on a treadmill or make my way up a steep hill on a bike  (Yes, I hold onto the handles as tight as I can, and rock my body back and forth).  The weird thing is that it actually helps me bike up steep hills.  I haven't had a bike in a long time, but that always embarrassed me.  LOL

Finally (and I've known this one since I was a teenager), hot sauce makes me hyper.  REALLY hyper.... like I- just- had- ten- cups- of- coffee- hyper.  I start giggling and bouncing off walls. It's ridiculous.  haha.

One thing I've always done ever since I've had internet access is move to taskbar to the right side of the screen. It just doesn't feel right on the bottom. I guess that's not really bizarre, but my friends always get mad when I change that on their computers, lol.
Another thing I tend to do is, when I'm walking, if there's tiled floor I'll always step forward in a pattern. For example, 3 tiles forward and one to the right, then three forward and one to the left, and repeat.
The only other thing I can think of is, when I'm on a jog I hate having extra things bogging me down. If there's anything in my pocket bouncing around it will annoy me to no end.

I make strange noises when I'm bored, I don't even know how I make them, it just happens. I also can't eat Kraft Dinner at night. I just can't. So there's 2 of my strange tendancies.

Sometimes when I sleep, I have the tendency to do weird things. I was at a band competition where we are forced to sleep 4 to a hotel room (girls only and guys only ) and my friend woke up and had to lay sideways because I got up without knowing and layed sideways. That went on for awhile and then I moved back over. I also tend to throw things when I sleep. If I'm holding onto a blanket, I might throw it to the other side.

I do not think anything is weird until somebody comes up and says so. Is that odd?

I don't know if its unusual but I am an avid shower singer I mean I wake up take out dogs eat and jump in that shower and sing.  I'm awful but I still do it I just can't help it.  Kinda freaks out others in the locker room though.  In high school,  I kept waking up my parents every morning with my singing so they blackmailed me into being a choir boy at church, it didn't last long but it didn't stop my shower singing.  Favorite is singing soul. (maybe I should make a thread for other shower singers like me?)

I can't eat off a wooden spoon. I don't know why, but I can't do it. I have to use plastic or metal spoons and I can't get Popsicles. It bothers me.Also, I can't eat a cheese sandwich by itself. I have to peel it apart and eat it separately. If I put other things on the sandwich, I can eat it normally, but if it's just cheese and bread, I can't do it.

I don't have any TOO interesting, but I have a couple of them.

1) I MUST wear a certain style if I plan to be seen by anyone: Specifically, I need a coat (more often one that's a bit long), a solid colored shirt or one with very little amounts of design on them (Such as my dark-grey Sonic shirt, or my purple biker shirt), gloves (Yes, gloves. Not dumb full-winter ones, they have to have the finger areas cut off and need to be thin-- Like biker gloves, kinda), my hair must not show areas of my forehead, and one occasions I need my Necklaces (One has a Sonic piece, a Triforce piece, a Crystal with a small red orb on the handle off the Crystal, and a Ring that came with the Sonic piece. On the other necklace is a Demon Hand that one held a small marble that made it look like it held one of those future-sight Orb things, or whatever) Nya~.

2) I tend to almost always have my hand covering my mouth when I do something, such as reading for example, and most times simple typing.

3) I have to do things as fast as possible: This goes with my love of Speed Runs, but I must always do things very fast. I can't stand when stuff goes slow for me. Exceptions go with small things like eating and whatever, but generally, things need to go fast.

4) If I can, I like to slide around and move in a, excuse me for how lame this sounds, smooth manner. Sliding around generally means like, walking around in socks and stuff like that, Nya~.

Will update with any others I remember, Nya~.

My bizarre tendencies had a really big tendency to drive my parents nuts - and now my roommates. Here's a small list of a few of them:

1. I can't clean in the room where somebody is sleeping. This applies to "open-layout" rooms too; in my mind, they function as one even though they are multiple rooms.

2. All dishes much be freshly washed or rinsed (if they were already clean) and thoroughly dried for me to make use of them.

3. Bread cannot be in the least beat soggy and none of my food can touch unless I deliberately make it do so (like ketchup and fries), in which it must, must be dipped and cannot be thrown on the plate together. If it's soupy/runny, it has to be in a bowl separated from the rest of the food.

4. Milk. My fiance insisted I add this one, as he says it is the most bizarre of my tendencies. I cannot, under most circumstances, drink the first bit of milk, or anything below half of the milk. Unless I really, really need it. I can usually cook with it just fine though.

5. And another that my fiance insisted on adding is my absolute avoidance of feet and anything that has touched them until whatever it is has been freshly washed with soap and water - socks, hands touching feet, and the like. I will pretty much only touch my own feet, and even that's iffy. (Although, I seem to have no problem with picking at the nails of my own.)

So. A top-five list of bizarre tendencies. Probably the worst ones that I have too; or at least, the most noticeable.
