I have to say Sonic. I've kept up with it through the best of times (Sonic CD,  Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic The Fighters ) and even the worst of times (Everything past Shadow the Hedgehog). Although the series is quite frankly fizzing out as we speak the series along with pretty much every ounce of media from Sonic Underground and Sonic X and even the comics have always held my interest even to this day.

I choose Mario, as I'm a huge fan of his game. Still, Sonic is pretty good too, with his great speed, good jumping abilities as well and he has a lot of friends to help him. Mario, because I played it before Sonic and I think that Mario is cooler character than Sonic. I also like more the gameplay of Mario games and I played it quite much as a child. So that's why I think Mario is better than Sonic.

I like both, but I'm leaning more towards Mario for the variety. Sonic games start to feel like the exact same game, but when Mario was on the NES, he went from a very basic platform game to maps, different enemies, and a whole lot of worlds and items. I skipped talking about Super Mario Bros. 2 there because the USA version really wasn't Mario... Also, if you think about how Mario games are today, you've got Mario games in every sport, there's Mario Kart, there's Mario Party, they're all over the place with variety. That's why Mario is my favorite .
