I do that when there are nothing good to watch on t.v. When there is somethings that is good to watch, I would stay glue on that channel and look for another channel to watch when it is commercial.

i haven't ever paid for cable.  There was never anything decent on (and I mean material-wise and of a clean, moral nature).  So yes, I was constantly flipping through the channels. I'd give up after the second or third round though.

Yes I flip through channels a lot because I hate watching so many commercials (particulary when its Football; that has so many commercials). However I usually know what is on before its live so I plan on what channels I'm going to switch to if commercials come on.

It's very rare for me to just randomly flip through channels. I have a guide on the television provider I have so I will look through the guide if I can't find anything good to watch and if I can't anything I'll just turn my television off and do something else, like listen to music or something.

I am not a channel surfer. I rarely watch TV and it's typically only when there's a specific show I wanna watch on at a specific time and channel. I don't just flip around looking for stuff. If I'm bored, my computer's far more entertaining than the TV :p

I consider it the best of both worlds to a degree because if a channel isn’t available on my satellite dish it could be available or at least a version of it through one of my media players. The only down side to media players is you really can’t hook one up to a DVD recorder so you can’t record the channels you buy which are live feeds. Beyond that I love it.

Yes, its quite a bad habit, as my father says. We will be watching one show, and then right when it gets on commercial, I switch it on him, and he always gets so frustrated when I have the remote. Sometimes we actually fight over who gets the remote (usually I win, and he just mumbles under is breath.) Its quite funny.

Back before on-screen guides for Cable/satellite TV I used flip through them a ton. Back then you still had a ton of channels but you didn't know what was on unless you had a TV guide or watched the Guide channel which got old.

Nowadays flipping through channels a lot seems pointless.

No, I usually am content to browse through my designated channels that I know I like (mentioned in the "favorite channels" topic). Plus, if I am out in the living room, I have access to a "Guide" button that tells me what is on. Why bother flipping through channels when I could just look at the guide? If I really am bored, cannot entertain myself online, and cannot find anything good on my favorite channels in my bedroom TV, I MAY flip through channels then. MAYBE.

Whenever my friend is over, she flips through channels despite there being a guide button. I keep telling her to just use the guide, but she wants to see small bits of a show instead of reading... cause she thinks its more work to read instead of flipping through channels.
