Okay, this is something I've been wanting to address for a while since I seem to get a million summons to handle something that I don't need to actually be summoned for.


This is the new rule going forward: If a forum has a local mod assigned to it then summon the local mod to that thread. Threads can still be posted in before being move to the correct forum. Thread moving is not urgent. It can wait for the moderators of the forum to get to them.

If you feel a thread (or post within a thread) is spamming or flaming then use the function built into each post to report those posts. They will be dealt with by the first mod who has power in that forum.

If there is a serious incident going on (extreme flaming or porn) then summon a global or David and/or contact us more directly via PM or chat bar and get us involved. Those incidents are rare but require immediate attention.

Finally this is being dealt with. I am glad because I have seen this done wrong many time and now people can get it right. I am glad this was made.

If there was spamming/minor flaming, then I would use the "Report Abuse" button on the upper right hand of the post. And if there was something serious, then I would summon

I believe this clarification was brought up in order to prevent unnecessary PM's to people that have better things to do. There's no use in PM'ing David or BNuge about a thread that needs to be closed because it's a dupe.

as for getting attention regarding serious things.... PM's don't usually work. I've got tons and I know David does too. You're better off finding us in chat or on the chat bar. If we're online we'll likely notice that faster than anything else. And don't bug David unless the situation is very serious and there is no one else who can deal with it.

yeah, what geeogree said was pretty much right. Personally, I check my notifications every time one appears and immediately go to it, if it's a summon... I'm pretty sure almost any mod will do the same.

I sent him a custom forum PM a long time ago and I was still waiting for the reply until after I read that...

Yeah this is a good idea, I approve.

This helps me out too because I knew that summoning the wrong mods or just doing it wrong in general has been an issue, and I didn't want to be an annoyance by doing just what you explained. There are a few times I have found forums meant to be spammy and I ended up waiting for someone to summon a mod. Now I can do it myself without worrying if I'm doing it right.

Someone70 : Oh I didn't avtually need it I was just saying that I would like to see one just for the newbies and such so they understand better. I just wanted to appeal to everyone so they would all get it.

Thanks to the fact i downloaded an unofficial(and far superior)browser on my phone i can now actualy see who moderates what forum,and summon the correct people,instead of just reporting abuse all the time.

billythekidmonster : actually very few newbies actually summon mods. It's usually trusted members that summon me for stuff.

geeogree : Hmm I guess that I never thought of that. So really this is not for newbies at all. I guess that I never thought of it, well sorry for MY newbish request.

This is good, but it might help if a user could see the forum mods from the "Reply" screen. So they don't have to go back or open a new window.

All in all though, I'm glad this has been addressed.

Yeah, it seems that we've been having that kind of activity with summoning globals a bit too much, heck, even I did that. Its about a good time to have that plan.

tj4bigred : Agreed. I very often have to back out of my post by opening a new tab to see who moderates the forum. I hate doing that because it always takes forever to load for some reason.

and that would summon the mods of the forum without having to look them up. Not sure when David will have a chance to get that updated but I'm hoping it is sooner than later.
