Well, I've been looking forward to this. I will try my very best to win, and hopefully this VCS won't curse me again and cut off my Internet.

geeogree : What about a VCS based on word count instead of post count? That would probably change the entire game of it for the better. Someone in the debate forum can easily make 1 post and out perform a person who makes 20 posts. Makes sense to me, the more time you put into a reply the more it should be worth not the other way around. What do you think?

JigSaw : I agree... but since I can't code that and I doubt David has the time I don't see it happening any time soon.

Also, when would the calculation happen? When the post was made or at the end of the day? That could factor into how people post. I could make 1 post that was super long and win the day because my word count was highest. I dunno... I think there are more ways to cheat that system potentially depending on how the calculations are done.

If someone makes a super long post and then edits it then it would automatically subtract from their word count for the VCS for the month. This would avoid people cheating word count. It's also extremely easy to tell who copy and pastes text from somewhere, if someone gets caught doing it they should be banned from entire VCS for the month.

But yea calculations could be tricky, best way to do it is have live stats somewhere. If its done at a certain hour every day people would attempt to cheat it by making a long post before that time then edit it shortly after.

This should actually be a feature added in next to peoples posts on the left side of screen next to their posts. A VCS tracker for the month. And if you really want to battle cheating, make it so no one can edit their posts if they are participating in VCS word count challenge. That should fix the cheater problem.

I think its a more balanced system if its based on word count. We could always could run 2 VCS's one for post count and one for word count. We could even go nuts with it and see how many times someone posts a certain word within a month and draw a random word for bonus points lol. Lots of things you could do with it.

like I said before... I can't code and David doesn't have the time to spend on something like this. There are things I would love to do to the VCS to make it more about quality rather than just quantity.... until he gets the time to do that there isn't anything I can do about it.

Wow, just found this thread. I hope that this VCS will be a good one and now that my school is out, I hope to be a bit active. Just want to get some good posts out before summer ends and school starts again.

I might take a little bit of a shot at this VCS, but I don't feel up to the kind of posting I did in February. I'll try to get a decent place though, if I have time. Getting 2nd place last time was a hard fought battle, I'll let someone else have a chance.

So is the 20% Crazy House rule going to be enforced again?
(Of course I won't need to worry about it, because I'm keeping mine under 10-15%)

septembern : I said all the rules are still in place. Nothing is going to change with regards to that. How well it will be enforced is iffy but the rule will be there.

JigSaw : I definitely don't have time at the moment to implement VCS related features, maybe in a few months


I think having the competition every month is a good idea, as long as someone is willing to host it each month. I just hope that the boost of posting that it sparks doesn't die down after a while because it's always a good way to boost the overall posting traffic on the site when it starts to get a little down.

Davideo7 : yeah, I'm hoping it elevates the level overall to a new high without making it peak like crazy.

Normal days can range from 400-700 posts and VCS days last time averaged higher than that. To be able to have the average ranging from 600-800 would be a great improvement.

Okay i know the rules but i forgot what percent of your posts can not be in the crazy house?

Anyone caught posting more than 20% in the crazy house for the day (or in any single forum really) will not get points for the day if they qualify for them.

geeogree : Yep, it's 20, and if they pass 30 percent, they'll get banned for a day from Crazy House.

I don't remember that second part to the rule but if the mods of the crazy house want to enforce that I'm fine with that. Doesn't bother me at all.

BNuge : those other rules are for the forum mods to decide on. If you ban someone for violating those rules then I don't give points to the banned person for at least the day they were banned. Since most forum bans only last for a day I figure it's fair to only ban for the day....

what this whole discussion should tell people is that we want to see activity ALL OVER the board not in 1 or 2 forums where easy posts come from.
