Alright, i've got a topic to argue about:
Are new games highly overrated?
Some new games are basically older games except with better graphics, shouldn't we pay attention to those games too?

Yes. While there have been some innovations in console, interface, and graphics technology, the essential style of gameplay has remained the same. Think about it, players who are good at halo tend to be good at CoD. Or how about street fighter/virtua fighter/Smash Brothers(?_?)

I think new games are very overrated. I'll use Halo as an example. The game play is the same as every other system except wii.

I felt Call of Duty: Black Ops had far too high a rating for a game that hadn't come out yet.

The game in the first hour of it being out patched. Which goes to show that the game that received an odd rank of 9.5 has far too many bugs to worry about, i.e. infinite care package.

Well I have put a lot of hours into black ops now and let me say it is just Modern Warefare 2! I think it is so highly over rated, it is ridunculous.

Yes... the prequel to modern warfare 2, no one ever heard of that before... did they... Modern Warfare 1.

Anyways, new games are lacking in originality. I hate most of them, yet still, if no one else plays these other games anymore... I must convert.

It's always FPS for some reason. I mean I like them, but I'm not too crazy about them. I like my platforming adventure awesomeness.

Yeah, I agree with DarthDub. I like FPS games but I prefer platformers. And some games I do think are very overrated, mainly Call Of Duty.

New games are more hyped up than they really are good, but they're all really good. The only overrated game I know is Halo.

Sure, it happens most of the time. There are a few games that live up to the hype or even exceed it, but that is very rare. There are many games that are underrated, though. I usually like games that the critics rate low, but turn out to be very enjoyable.

New games are overated, but, there are such great in graphics and fight. Even though, they are bad in stories and characters, it's repetitive. Old games are better and will always be the best for stories and characters. That's what i think only.

Games can be an art, or a product. Art games are the ones that are not trying to please anyone but the creator's ambition. while the Product are the over-expensive, crowd pleasing, industrial BS. don't get me wrong, Grand theft auto is a decent game series, but I hate it when companies try to emulate the latest new thing and one up them, just for money. Games should be about the fun gameplay, the challenge, and the pleasure of victory over the obsticles you face after hours of trial and error. these new games, just don't do it like they used to... what with all the auto save features. The best Part of Super Mario Brothers 3 is that you spend Hours running around the levels, finding all kinds of secrets, dying, trying again and again until alas, you and king Koopa, 1 on 1. You loose a few lives, then with that last busted brick, you heave a sigh of relief as mario makes his way to the princess, she jokes, and you get to see the awsome end screen. If a new game is worth the effort, than it's too easy, and if it's not, it's too hard and boring (blowout... I'm looking at you, you repetive, anti-smoking ad for a game!) now adays, games are trying to make a comeback into the "Retro" scene, only to repete past mistakes or over exagurate a good thing into a hurtful redundancy. Like I said, Games can be art, or they can be Productions, sadly most today are productions, made in a computer lab with over hundreds of people and more in an entirely different place, taking pre-made models, graphics, and code, altering them, and there's your summer hit... bastards...

i also agree on call of duty black opps. as soon as i heard it was coming out i thought it to be overrated. that bein said i heard about that patch that had to take place in the first hours of the game. plus i also learned from a couple of my friends that there not enough servers up to get all your friends in one game. (being how there is so many people playing it the servers get full super quick) that being said i took the liberty to not get it seeing how its not in my interest. but its still a pretty good game regardless.

I actually think that the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) does a good job of rating stuff.

I think that the newest GTA game or Halo/CoD game are the ones that are overrated the most. Everyone knows what you're gonna get with either. Those all just build upon the previous installments (which I was not really a fan of anyway). Graphics are very overrated, especially nowadays. I mean, back then, you could really see the changes. Nowadays, it's just slight improvement over slight improvement. Games from 1990 compared to 1999, look much different than games from 2000 compared to 2009 (and I'll go as high as 2010).

Some new games are not overrated, Like Metroid: Other M, while other games are. But some old games are also overrated, like the first Sonic game.

I think most games are way over hyped, everyone hears how they are good, even excellent, and it turns out it is just junk. i overly much think it is the Game Company, Developers, Etc. that rate the game, and ship it off. It seems just to unreasonable for a game rating company to rate something that should be thrown away around 9/10% excellent.

Well, in my day, I was saying how Mario Bros. was crap compared to Alex Kidd. Them were the days...

Actually, journalists are the people who "professionally" review games. I agree that this generation is the land of cavities to some extent, but it's not all bad. Just comes down to taste. I enjoy shooting crap, but prefer a third person view. I enjoy games where atmosphere is a lot more evident. For me, the games from last generation, and the current one, are what I enjoy. For others, maybe not.

As far as America's rating system goes... Well... It's usually spot-on, but will screw up sometimes. It's odd, though... America is so touchy when it comes to sex, but I've seen a ton of sexual jokes in games that are rated E. *cough*Most Pokemon games*cough* Also, we seem to be moving towards some odd British painted wall that still has a fear of sex, but actually is afraid of violence, as well...

Example: The first episode of Gargoyles had blood, and the series was fairly violent for a Disney cartoon. This show was almost devoid of any sexual content, though.

It seems like ever since school shootings started complete hysteria from the American public, we are going from being lax about even blood in a cartoon. It doesn't help that we have all these parents just blaming music, video games, and other media on violent acts committed by their offspring...

Actually, the prices are kinda the result of inflation in US dollars, and simply how much more expensive it is to make games for consoles now.

And amen, Black ops is pretty much Modern Warfare 2. I played it at a buddy's house and decided there's no point in buying it since there's virtually no difference. No significant differences that I saw at least.
