When it comes to remakes and reboots they could be either bad or good. Some remakes like Dawn of The Dead (2004) were very good, and reboots to movie series like Batman and Superman were very well done. But sometimes when they remake movies like horror movies, they pretty much suck.

So what is your view on this matter?

If it is like the remake of The Mummy, panic. If it is okay, I'll be fine with that.

Here's my story of my hate for the remake of The Mummy. A few weeks ago, I was bored, and wanted to watch a horror movie. Only horror movie in the house was that. I thought, "Yay!" Then... An hour later... I wondered if I should have just watched a crappy cartoon instead. It was so boring, and only good for getting a headache from screaming.

I generally enjoy remade movies. While they don't have the say feel as the originals did I still enjoy the new take on an old character/series.

I agree that most of them aren't as good, but they generally aren't terrible movies.

I'm not a huge fan of remade movies, they usually aren't that good, but every once in a while, I'll find a remake that is equal to, or even surpasses the original, like the Karate Kid that was recently released, I think it is better than the original and an all around good remake.

Theres no point in remaking a movie they just want money. I see no point in remaking classics other then to get some fast cash for using someone elses idea.

Not all remakes suck though I think one of my favorite is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, that was not really a remake it was a prequel I thought it was awesome especially the ending. All horror movies should end tragic like that

I'd rather stick to the original so I don't end up with another experience like I had with The Mummy. I may watch that remake of the Wolfman, though. I heard it was okay, so worth a watch just to kill time on a boring day.

It really depends on the movie.

Take the Ring, Ocean's 11, or Scarface. All great remakes...

Alice in Wonderland (the newer one, if it can be called a remake) was not.

legacyme3 : That newer Alice in Wonderland isn't a remake since it took place after the more well-known part of the Alice in Wonderland story portrayed by Disney.

In video games I think it's great because it allows a younger generation to play the games from yesteryear and see how good they were made back then. With movies, well, they can be good but I would rather just watch the originals.

I don't really mind movie remakes, but I'd prefer the originals. Maybe they remake older movies just to try to introduce them to the public of today and show them the awesomeness of the original, with a few changes here and there.

JonXMasterZZMan :
Maybe it is the writer in me but I tend to dislike remakes because it gives the impression that writer’s aren’t as creative as they were once believed. It also gives the impression that at the end of the day the movie studios are only out to make a quick buck and will gladly do it even by repeatedly recycling a previous movie that may have been a big money draw.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s there were plenty of movies that were fresh and entertaining. It seems that the few movies that I have seen remade from my favorite decade are quite frankly poor attempts to recreate a direct copy of something that the original puts to shame. It makes me think sometimes if the world is getting lazy to a degree because if you think about it even television and radio commercials aren’t original anymore probably because companies find it easier to pay licensing rights for music (Most of which comes from the 80s.) to put in their advertising and or adapt slogans from rather than pay a jingle writer who could come up with something original.

I know it may not seem so annoying to some people but as a writer it gets under my skin because A I know how difficult it is to make a living as a writer but B so much talent gets wasted when companies and studios take the easy way rather than to put the time and effort in to come up with something fresh and new.

In terms of movies I would much rather see a sequel of something with the original actors and or writers behind it rather than a new group of people’s adaptation of something. When something gets redone in one facet or another every couple of years it gets to a point where it becomes overkill and nothing fresh comes out.

This Summer for example seemed like someone could title it “The Summer of Recycled concepts” rather than looking for one good Summer Blockbuster.

At least that is how I feel about it.

Some remakes make people forget about the old one and thats why I don't like them. Now if the first one was really bad then a good remake is not a bad thing.

Maybe. Some remakes are good, but others are bad. For example take Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Re-Shelled. That was a bad remake. But take Super Mario All Stars. That was a very good remake. Long story short, remakes are good and bad.

I think they can be either way. Some remakes just take the classic element out of a movie and tone it down for newer audiences. Or even the change from game to movie. Take Super Mario Bros, for example.

JonXMasterZZMan : I actually like remakes of good horror movies because more than likely it's a lot better! But others like Freddy and Jason...they have over 10 movies. I don't think they should remake anymore! It's repetative and predictable....but over all remakes can be good. As long as they don't have more than 5. Texas Chainsaw massacre is another crappy remake...who doesn't already know what's going to happen??

Remakes of movies are typically bad. Apparently, there was a remake of Wizard of Oz some number of years ago. I suppose I never heard about it because it was so bad. The remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was awful.

The only way it could have redeemed itself in the slightest way is if Willy Wonka had a moment when he dressed up as a pirate. Johnny Depp just doesn't look good when he's not dressed up as Jack Sparrow.

I think they're good if done in the right way.

If it strays too far from the original story and its acting is worse than before, then it's bad.

If it's the samestory but slightly improved with better actors, then it's good.

I guess it depends on if they find the right actors/writers/director. Some can be very good remakes, while others just suck.

For example, as much as I love Johnny Depp, I dont like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that much. =/ I find the original to be much better. But on the other hand, I kinda like the True Grit remake more, partly because I like the girl from the remake much more than the original girl.
(I found the original girl kind of annoying.)

As a side note, I wonder how the Plan 9 remake will turn out. >.> The original had a good idea, it was just poorly executed. I watched the original last night and laughed hard.

Anyway, it just depends.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
