About

When I was a kid I thought that God had put me on this earth to beat Super Mario Bros 3. This was back in the days when you got 5 lives and a continue, when you had to start over from the beginning if you couldn't win in one sitting, and when you still had to blow dust out of the plastic, gray floppy discs that were game cartridges back then. It was the Golden Age of video games in other words. Games today, though, are made so that you rent them from a vending machine and beat them in a single night using "super guides" and the fact that you have infinite continues. What happened to pressing on to the princess in the other castle? To learning the glitches and tricks in a game through trial and error--not internet walkthroughs? To having a game that was an epic journey that could take weeks or months to finally win? To me these games are more than just entertainment, they're art, and that's why it's so awesome to have a place like Vizzed, where we can revisit the classic games and reminisce about what makes them so great. And it's especially crucial in this day and age where we see more and more faceless companies churning out the same tired, generic, spiritless, rent-a-games to make a quick buck on what they only see as a cash-cow industry to be milked. We need more of those people who actually have a passion for video games and a desire to take them further and make them even better, because they see them as what they really are--art.
