During the Nintendo Spotlight event at E3, they talked a little bit about Pokken Tournament DX. After talking about that, it was revealed that they are working on a core Pokemon title for the Switch. Not a spin-off, not a port, a game in the main series. Guess that Pokemon Stars stuff actually had some truth to it. What do you think this title will be? I originally thought that it would be the Sinnoh remakes, but then I realized they wouldn't do that for remakes because of the nostalgia. This possibly could be the beginning of Generation 8. I honestly have no clue what it could be, what do you guys think?

I'll hold out hope, but I 100% expect a Pokemon Colloseum type game, which just isn't for me.

I would love to see them have an open world Pokemon game, now that we've seen what Breath of the Wild can do. Just imagine roaming a huge world, in search of big ass pokemon.

They said it's an RPG game, so a Colosseum remake/sequel holds right now the highest chances of being this game. It may be a totally different format, seeing how they're experimenting with several new things lately, so we cannot discard anything except a sequel to Sun/Moon.

They also said it won't be coming for more than a year, so I doubt development has even started. This could mean that not even GameFreak exactly knows what will they make with this game. Maybe they threw the ball to see what the fans wanted for an RPG Pokemon game and then make it real (let me dream while I still can).

It won't be the start of Generation 8, that's for sure. Japan has very big plans for 2020, so my bet is that they will wait until the whole world has their eyes set on their country to launch big things like a new Generation. Unless they pull off something like Tekken and have us waiting for more than three years, this will be a Gen 7 game.

Is contradictory. If GameFreak doesn't know, then it will be over a year of development, so it wouldn't match up with the timeline. If GameFreak does know, and the game is scheduled for next year, the only way this all makes sense, is if the game is presently being developed on.

My theory is, they want to get the fans hyped up, and not disappoint them. And the only reasons we didn't see anything were the following:

1 - It would be a disappointment to show something. IE - Colloseum

2 - The current product is not good enough to show. IE - It's not stable yet.

3 - The current product cannot be shown without spoiling a ton of what the game is about, and they want to save the reveal for a Nintendo Direct in the future, so when the game comes out, there's maximum hype around it.

I think it's likely that it's the third or first option. They did a similar thing with Mario Odyssey, showing barely anything, and today, showing quite a bit on the showfloor at E3. So now that speculation has run rampant, and people know what it is, they can just be excited about it, and excited that the game is coming soon. If it is just Colloseum, this is the best way to get people excited about a game they don't anticipate the sales they'd particularly want, otherwise for it, because now, everyone is talking about it, but if it was just Colloseum, only a handful of people would be in comparison.

The mystery is what is exciting about the announcement, and it helps the game get to the most ears possible.

They could have shown something about a Colosseum-like game. After all, being a RPG, they can simply show the character moving around, some of the locations and the in-battle system. They didn't show anything because the game it's still in the early stages of development and don't have enough material for a trailer yet, so all they did was mention it and let fans hype about it until a Direct reveals actual gameplay.

And well, I actually liked Colosseum so I wouldn't be mad about a remake. I'm not into the Switch yet and Pokemon isn't one of the main series I'd be following if I was, so my hopes aren't going to be killed. Whatever this game ends up being will be okay with me, but a Colosseum remake could be potentially better than most other things if handled well.

I'm thinking it'll either be a remake of some sort like a 4th gen remake, or we may possibly see Game Freak take an ambitious step and make the first multi-region game since G/S/C.

This was always a given. Pokémon has always been a handheld game series, and the Switch is a handheld. It's cool for Pokémon fans, but not surprising in the least, just like Mario being on the Switch.

No, it's a handheld that has a Television docking feature. Like the PSP.
It's a handheld that Nintendo wants to market as a console so it appeals to Western audiences.

If this is anything like Pokemon Colosseum or XD I'm 100% on board with it. Those are both among my favorite Pokemon games and I would love to see a return or possibly even a remake. I doubt that's going to happen though as it would be a bit risky on their part and require a lot more work for them to fully realize.

Colosseum and XD are not "core" Pokemon RPG's, they're spinoffs. Also, they weren't developed by Game Freak. This proves that the Switch title won't be a Colosseum or XD type game.

I was highly disappointed when the next Pokémon main game wasn't on switch, but it is what it is.

I enjoyed Colosseum and XD, but I don't see any games like that in what they revealed.

Not really sure what they are coming up with, but if they have a new idea for a Pokémon game on the switch, it'd be even more reason for me to get one (once more have finally been produced)

Must say it was much better news than ultra sun and moon.

I believe it is Generation 8 because the next main core Pokemon game is coming to the Switch, and we're getting Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon so I guess it is enough games for Gen VII. Gen VIII should shine on the Switch

If it isn't gen 4 remakes I'll be seriously disappointed. Gen 4 is such a great one, yet they don't remake it? It's been a while since gen 3 remakes, so why not?

I don't hold hope that the next pokemon game will be good because they'll just add more pokemon, never give us likeable characters and I'll just be seriously disappointed.

Give them time to make it. I personally believe that Diamond/Pearl remakes will be released after this Pokemon Switch game. I think Generation 8 is what they're hinting at for the Switch. I'm fine with waiting, as long as we get them either by the end of this decade or early next decade.

This absolutely has to be the Gen 4 remakes, as we have a pair of remakes on each console (GBA - Fire Red/Leaf Green, DS - Heart Gold/Soul Silver, 3DS - Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire) so that dictates that we get Gen 4, unless it's a fifth version of Alola, which is not very likely, unless it's a port. The least likely option is another game in the style of XD and Colosseum, even though it's what I want to see in a console Pokemon game.
