I know this is a joke, but I am not amused.

Everyone is allowed to make jokes and point at our political system. I agree,to an extent,it is a joke and not a good one. Look at the little turds that wish to be our President. Now Queen Elizabeth II offers to reinstate British rule over the U.S. as a bit of a joke. I am sorry,I would rather die than accept British rule. I have no problems with the British. They are a hardy and well-intended folk. They are steadfast allies and good people. But I find the thought of a monarchy ruling over us,even in jest, sickening.

Except for the fact that the United Kingdom is not a true monarchy. It is a constitutional monarchy (Which means that there is a queen/king, their word is not law, and in fact has a constitution (Whether that be written or not is another matter), you know the thing the USA has) and not an absolute monarchy (Which means that the king/queen has, well, absolute power.) The queen is mostly a ceremonial figure, not really a political one.

Also, it's a joke, lighten up.

Would it really be that bad though? Hillary or Trump, neither are stellar choices, and the United Kingdom's politics aren't that bad (Brexit and everything, sure, but better than the US right now), so I don't see a problem with it. It's a joke, and honestly not really possible unless a hegemony or something gets put in place.

Like I said,I know it is a joke. But I am not finding it funny. Maybe I just think that is a slap in our faces. Maybe I think they cannot handle their own issues. And I think it would be. We would be throwing away what our forefathers fought for. What men died doing. I know it cannot happen easily but I would rather deal with Trump or Clinton over a monarchy in ANY form. That is one of the reasons JFK was shot. People feared a dynasty with the Kennedys.

Maguc :

A monarchy is little different from what we currently when your Federal Body makes pointless each state's boarders, and your Supreme Court somehow gets the idea that it can MAKE laws and disregard state's rights in similar ways.

With voting fraud, which Hillary has already used to knock out Bernie, I don't think our votes even matter. This election could already have been choosen for us. lol.

Our forefathers were really bad people as well. I would actually accept her offer to be honest. I mean it is not even that bad anymore. It has a constitution and seems to treat the people fairly. Just because it is a Monarchy does not mean there is a tyrannical overlord.

Also it is not even really any sort of Monarchy. It is a Parliamentary Democracy with the queen for other reasons. The queen does not really rule that much.

I am aware of that. But as I said, our freedom was paid for in blood, sweat, and tears. And to even suggest that we go with a monarchy is a step backwards.

Sword legion : The Electoral College has done most of the screwing since its inception. It had a use back then when the people were largely uneducated and it was simpler to just have a small group of people say what the people felt. Voter fraud has been with us since the birth of our nation. If they want to get people to come out to vote, make it so you must win the will of the people, not the electoral college votes. As for voter fraud, have a dozen armed men ready to open fire on people that try to skew votes.

At this point I think going back under the Union Jack would honestly be better than the crapshow that our political system is now. At this point we're less free and under more oppression than we ever were under jolly ol' England.

Dude, that is the funniest thing I've seen all week. "DN" has my support now and forever lol.

And I've seen a YouTube video of the fraud you're talking about. Someone was using a touch screen poll machine, and every time they clicked on Bernie's name, it would register as a vote for Hillary. They tried to re-submit the thing 3 times (it allowed you to reclick in case you selected the wrong person), and every time their click for Bernie registered in Hillary's name. Even if they used paper, all it takes is enough money to make the people counting them look the other way (or threats to them and their family, etc). And I don't remember the specifics, but there was tons of cases of polling locations who were excluding certain demographics from being allowed to vote for various reasons, or them manipulating the locations of where people could vote for their choice, trying to keep areas of Bernie majority from being able to as easily get to the polls.

Anyway, the humor behind this all comes down to personal taste (although to me this doesn't come off as being in bad taste or anything). They say "Tragedy + Time = Comedy," and this seems like a perfect example of that. Everyone knows our relations with the British are about as positive as can be, so this isn't exactly anything to be considered offensive. If 200 years from now when (hopefully) our relationship with the Middle East is on better terms, I can't imagine it being a big deal if someone makes a joke about how things are now. Heck, people make fun of how things are now every day. We can all agree certain things in life are tragic, deserve respect, etc., but at the same time there's no reason to take them too seriously. Just because pedophilia is a terrible thing in most people's eyes, doesn't mean they don't laugh at a funny Micheal Jackson joke when they hear it, ya know?

Mynamescox44 :

Yeah. And people seem to think you're insane or even childish for suggesting voting fraud could even be a thing, when it is. That's what irritates me.

Paper does not eliminate the problem, I completely agree. We've seen democrats and republicans suddenly "find" extra bags of votes in the last minute that support one candidate over the other. . . I really think some people need hung in this country.

You can support DN all you want. The 15 year old behind it even made his own campaigning website and talked about the issues. I'm not sure if he actually did get the genuine support of if someone hacked it/it was just badly conducted poll. (I mean. . . 9% is a HUGE number for a third party candidate. X_X) So I dunno what to tell you there. But. . . it is interesting to say the least.

And yes, tradgedy + time = humor. XP People do get a bit uptight about these things. And the queen makes a good point. She even joked saying that she never used emails, and only had sex with on person "very occasionally" XD

Yeah. . . people are laughing at our country, and rightly so. X'D

About jokes like these, I sometimes wonder if perhaps they actually appear as a result of all of the complaints from the people living in the U.S. about their presidential candidates... If we didn't complain so much about our candidates, I wonder if the other countries would necessarily have thought to (or even felt compelled to) make such offers, even as a joke?

Oldschool777 :

I don't think the queen would ever make a joke like this as she would want to keep up the appearance of maintaing neutrality. Could you provide the actual source of her saying this? Because from what I can tell this was a satirical joke played by the newspaper in other words is not based on a real event and wasn't even intended to be taken as such by the author. I would exercise more source criticism in cases like this.
