This is my cat Zander (No relation to Zanderlex), he is going to be put down tomorrow. He has been suffering from sever arthritis as well as metabolism working to much (Causing him to look all skin and bone). I'm both happy because he's not going to be in pain anymore, but also sad because I'm never going to see him again and it hurts. I mean Zander has been my cat since I was little so the fact I'm losing him now is sort of like losing a family member. I plan to spend pretty much the rest of the day with him, because it's the last day I'll ever see him. The picture of him above I took this morning, this will be the last picture I ever take of him.

I'm so sorry dude. That really sucks. I've never had a pet (besides goldfish, but I was never really emotionally attached to them), but I really feel for you man. Hope y'all can enjoy the time you have left and make another special memory with each other. Thoughts and prayers are with you and Zander.

Nice profile picture, though.

This is pretty much the worst thing you can encounter in life: Losing a close friend. In your case, it's Zander. I too actually wished it was ending differently. But how old was Zander?

Zander deserves a lot of love and care now. Not only because he's going to let his suffering period end, but because he was your buddy overall. By doing so, you appreciate his time with you and telling (hopefully) you loved him as your friend.

I wish you the best, Max.

18mlivingston : I'm so sorryz that this has to happen to you 18m if you stillz have the time I'd take one more picture of him with his eyes open and looking at you ... I can relate a little bit because since we are moving I won't be able to see the two neighborhood cats that I've been taking care of and feeding twice a day for much longer ... true my mom says we can come back and visit them but it won't be the same as being able to go outside and call their names and have them run right to me so I'm taking as many pics as I can of them until then

I knowz that taking pics of a pet that your aboutz to lose is hard though I've done that too with the one dog that we had to put down a few years back I stillz have the pics of him on my phone so that does offer me some comfort and like I said before take as many pictures of your cat Zander as you think you need to you'll be happyz that you took the time to do that to remember him by

18mlivingston : I,m really sorry to hear about your cat,I have 2 cats and have lost a few of them throughout the years so I know how it feels,it,s never easy to have a pet put down but at least it,s better than letting them suffer and eventually die on their own especially with cats since they have the tendency to go into hiding when they know they are about to pass away, hope everything goes well for you and your family

I know what you are going through here and it's tough especially when you have grown up with the cat your entire life.

I had to put down my 20+ year old cat few years ago. One night she was struggling to walk and was leaning against the walls for support. Took her into the vet at 2AM and they said she either had to be put to sleep or amputate her legs off. I couldn't imagine a cat that old getting its legs chopped off... what kind of life would that be like especially at that old? The vet gave me some time to say goodbye to her. Wrapped up in a blanket I never seen her so calm before it's as if she knew what was going to happen. I was given a paw print memory of her because I could not afford ashes or surgery

I am so sorry, Max. Zander looked absolutely adorable. I bet you two both have very fond memories of all your time together. Treasure those memories, and try to be happy that they happened, and not be sad because it's all over. It's better that he goes instead of stay in that much pain. I am so sorry for your loss, man.

That's really awful to hear man...it's always tough to lose a close family pet after having it for such a long time. I remember when I lost my dog about 3.5 years ago. It was on the day after the 4th of July and I was going outside to feed him (he was a pretty big dog, 110+ lbs or so, and he shed a lot during the summer months, so we keep him outside in the backyard) like I normally would on any regular day and when I filled up his water and food bowl I realized he didn't come out of hiding to greet me like he always did. When I called out his name 2 or 3 times and got no response/sign of movement anywhere, I started to get worried. In my state of panic, I frantically searched underneath the balcony, the patio, and alongside the far reaches of the backyard fence.

After a few minutes of searching, I finally found him curled up in the corner of the yard with his eyes closed....he just laid there completely motionless and completely silent....my mind just went completely blank and I had no idea how I was going to break the news to everyone else. My parents and siblings were devastated to hear the news....we had him for such a long time (about 10 years) so it was really painful to lose him so suddenly. I have no idea what caused his death since he was perfectly normal (from what I could tell) on the 4th of July. We buried him in our backyard the next day...

To make a long story short, it was definitely difficult for my family and I to cope with the loss of a family member and it wasn't until just 2 months ago when we decided we would have a family pet again (2 little shih tzus). This time we decided on small dogs that we could keep inside and monitor at all times.

I'm very sorry about Zander man...It will definitely be hard to come to terms with, but it is important to stay strong and cherish all the memories of your time together with him. As awful as this sounds, at least he will be put out of his suffering rather than being forced to endure it longer...my condolences to you and your family, I hope you will all be able to pull through. Always remember that you have a second family here on vizzed that is always here to support you in the hardest of times. I wish you the best, may Zander rest in peace.

I am sorry to hear that. But your pet would not want you to grieve. They would want you to honor them and be the person they know you are. I know I will be broken when my beagle has to be put down. I love that little furball, even after she has bitten me. Pets have a way to bring out the best in us.

I saw this thread before and wasn't sure what to say really.....it comes to a sad point when you loose a pet just like a sister, or a brother you have. Its really saddening to hear this sorry for your loss.

That's horrible! I'm so sorry. I had my cat put down while I was at school, and I didn't even get any warning that she would be put down, so I know how you feel. I'm sorry.

As a Christian and cat owner myself so sorry to hear about this. May God be with you during this difficult time. Prayers for you and your family. I offer prayers and support if you need to talk i'm only a message away.

Its sad when we lose pets. I believe that God has a special place in heaven for cats and pets. To me cats are little people with fur. In the past two years I have had to put 2 cats down. Both of mine had a terminal illness. I would not allow them to suffer in pain. The vet did several tests to make sure and they all came back positive for the terminal illness. Both cats were in pain and losing a lot of weight. The vet said had me and my parents not put them to sleep. They would have died in a few days very unpleasantly. So while the decision is hard you never want to see them suffer in pain. I still miss the 2 cats I lost to this day.

Blessings in Christ
