I'm going to give a long exposition here, so bear with me. I went through Basic Training and AIT. (For the Army) and I talked about music sometimes, kind of an Ice breaker, but what I found was that one likes classic rock and roll. (I consider anything up to the 80's classic, although I don't really like anything from the 80's.) No one listened to that or Rock, it was mostly Country, Hip-hop, or "I don't really listen to music." Well, my time was up in training, I got moved to Texas, bought a car, and then started playing my music, and again, no one really listens to the kind of music I play... Actually, I usually get confused looks when they see a 19-year-old male listening to some Led Zeppelin or Rolling Stones. (I could say some other artists that everyone knows, but I almost guarantee none of you guys listen to them.)

I LOVE older music... I mean, I guess I really like old stuff, older cars, older places, older countries... Man, this is getting old. (Haha...) So, I guess I'm the odd one out in my generation, but to me, I just don't get how people can't listen to these awesome songs!

I just went on leave, and I drove back home. (a gruesome 21 hour drive) I took one break, and this was 1 hour, to take a nap. What kept me awake you ask? Well, there was no one else in the car, so I blasted some oldies. I tried country and other genres, none of them worked like the old songs. This is why I think it's often under-appreciated.

So, enough of my ramblings, what about you guys? Can you appreciate oldies? (Old Time Rock and Roll, Hound Dog, Black Dog, Stairway to Heaven etc.) Give me your favorite oldie, and tell me why you like that song!

My dad's a 53 year old musician, so I've actually been exposed to quite the variety of older music, some of it I even like. Unfortunately, I don't know any songs by name. To name a few bands though, there were some tunes by Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, a little bit of Beatles, a couple Rolling Stones songs, etc. For me, it's less about a genre or a group than it is about the art itself. Like a friend of mine said- There are only three genres of music: songs I like, songs that are okay and songs I hate.

Yeah.....how I started liking this was either from my parents, or since being born in the 90's I watched a lot of music videos with my brother back in the day so that's how I came liking to what type of music I like listening too really. I appreciate classics a lot since I tend to listen to them when I can really. It also reminds me what I was born with music wise. I know there are people who like it and some who don't so not each Gen music is for everyone. I would be talking about people like Michael Jackson, The Beetles, Abba, Queen and many more.

darthyoda : classic rock is actually my favorite kind of music in fact back in my childhood days I used to listen to my mom,s old 33 records she has songs from the beachboys, elvis as well as 2 records that have songs from different singers like the big bopper, little richard and chuck berry I even own some old 33 records of the beatles and the bee gee,s that a neighbor living a few doors down from where I live was throwing away but when I tried them on my record player I noticed that they still play pretty good and while I do like some of today,s music to me the classic rock music is better because they just don,t make songs like those anymore and I always enjoy listening to them

I'm in my 30s and I started listening to Led Zepplin and Jimi Hendrix and the Doors when I was growing up, in the early, early 90s. There is one classic rock radio station and they play the classics.

They were fun to listen to growing up but after 20+ years of hearing the same music.... well, it's getting old. I don't mind the songs and I appreciate what they have done to create our current style of music. I don't believe guitar rock is going to do much more and it's going away as a genre of music but I like what's out there. Even Metallica, Soundgarten, and the other bands of 80s and 90s are good but it's still something like 15 years or 20 years of hearing them too.

It's old now. I've heard "Stairway to Heaven" a few thousand times. I'm good with it and ready to listen to other stuff.

What's your MOS?

I'm a huge fan of the classics. I don't care for modern music at all. There are a few artists that are good but most of them blah. I like the 50's, 60's, 70's and of course my decade the 80's. I think the 80's was the last great decade for music and I'm glad I got to experience it growing up in the 80's.

Every night I listen to oldies stations. Its a good way to relax while watching baseball, working on my weather stuff, or playing games. Favorite classic artists I like: Dave Clark 5, Animals, Rolling Stones, Four Tops, Temptations, Chicago, War, Journey Hall & Oates, and others from that era

Classic rock is a genre that's always resonated with me since my teenage years. I'm in my 20's now and I started listening to Pink Floyd, Yes, Supertramp, Genesis, Chris DeBurgh, Bruce Hornsby, Rush, BTO, Fleetwood Mac and oh so many more when I was 14. Today my musical tastes vary a great degree, but one thing that has never flinched is my love for classic rock, as it were.

"ugh, all new music is bad, only stuff made years ago is good, because old music can do no wrong, i'm not like everyone else I only listen to good music, not this new stuff which is terrible" - Everyone here.

Being semi-serious now, I really like rock and metal. Sure, this means I listen to oldies (Queen, Foo fighters [Is it considered old?], Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Metallica, etc...) but that doesn't impede me listening to some new bands and songs, either. Just because it's recent doesn't mean it's bad. There are still great music that rivals or is even better than the old stuff, but if you only base new music on the Top 40, that's your problem, it doesn't mean new music is bad.

In fact, I have a friendship with a friend's dad because of it. He was a very big 80's rocker, and since I know a lot of bands/music from that era, we instantly started getting along because of it.

Some of my favorite Oldies include Bohemian Rhapsody (Is an explanation really necessary for this?), Carry On My Wayward Son (Supernatural yo) and anything by Blue Oyster Cult (Seriously, one of my favorite bands. Not one song of them I genuinely dislike.
