Baby boomers might have their faults, grown up with negative stereotypes, but at least they were willing to accept changes to that way of thinking. And they were the ones that were actually willing to suffer consequences for their actions and for the most part they were peaceful and did not interfere with the lives of people. Back then, the police could sic their dogs on you, beat you with a baton, use less than lethal rounds on you and protesters often had fire hoses turned on them.

They were willing to accept change for the better and they did not interrupt people's lives or loot and destroy things like the BLM tends to do. If anyone is to blame for the abysmal state of affairs it is Generation X,with their soft hearts and them trying to be their kids' friend instead of a parent, the destruction of a traditional family, and millennials for thinking everything is wrong and having everything that was good ripped up to suit the whiny few.

For the most part baby boomers were a positive impact on the world;Gen X, I would say so-so;millennials,their impact is yet to be determined but I will go out on a limb and say for the most part their involvement has be detrimental.

mastergame : I tell you what. I'll let you win the argument and I am done debating. We are obviously coming from two different realities and two different cultures so we can't even agree on what happened in the past or who's responsible for what.

You sure have your opinion on American history and our culture and I can't understand where it comes from. Are you taught that Baby Boomers hate Mexicans in school?

If I can ask, what country do you come from and what is your native language?

Either way, you can have your opinions and that's fine. You're right and you win. Good job.

Don't get me wrong, the waiver thing is ridiculous.
But I still feel it's a person's right to not participate if they so choose. The beauty of this country is the fact we allow our citizens to live their lives relatively free in the grand scheme of things.

Call it what you will for students to choose to not participate in The Pledge, but I feel it would be even less American to force it upon them.

It is not about force,it is about showing respect and honor. Shoving views on people, that is force.

Oldschool777 :
That's what I'm saying. If someone has a reason to not do it, whatever that may be, that is their choice. Just because someone has the view everyone should do it no matter what, saying "you have to do this or face ridicule / punishment / discrimination / disrespect / negative consequences / etc" would be the definition of shoving that view on people.

Now in my school it was forced by some teachers but who cares; just say the Pledge and be done. People are just finding problems in things that dont have any.

Oldschool777: I feel like my previous statement needs clarification. I completely understand where you're coming from on the honor and respect issue, and the love of your country, but there's just one problem with that: this isn't even close to the same country it was. This isn't The United States of America anymore. Lets look past the fact we have either completely corrupt or completely inept "representation" in congress. How did they get there? A nation is made up by it's people, and these aren't the same people. Not even close. Because of the annually growing amount of the self proclaimed progressive ideologues, everything that made this country hospitable for our kind is being taken away on a daily basis. There's very little, if anything, left for me to honor, respect or love about this country anymore. And for that reason, I do not stand during the national anthem and I would not recite the pledge of allegiance.

ganondorf4ever :
RDay13 :

In addition to my last comment on that subject, it's also worth noting that, despite what it's supposed to represent today, the pledge was written in 1892 by a socialist and "under God" wasn't added in until 1954. It also wasn't recited in school until it was used as a marketing gimmick by Sears, Roebuck and Company to sell flags to schools.

Corruption has been around since the country was founded. And believe it not,it used to far, far, worse. I agree that change is needed, lobbyists need to be banned and the electoral college done away with. But I salute the idea,no matter how flawed we are as a country,we are far better than a third world country and countries that let religious and crazy nutjobs run loose.

How do you think you are taught to do anything, cox? By doing as you are told. When you learn to write, you sit down and make your first shaky letters under instruction. When you first read, you start with letters and simple sounds. That is how you instill love and respect.

Oldschool777 : Actually, we would be in even worse shape than we are now if it weren't for the electoral college. That's kinduh my point. In a scenario like that, all of the most populated states like Illinois, New York, California, etc. and all of the very large, progressive/socialist cities within them like NYC, LA, Boston, Chicago etc. would decide every election and the more sparingly populated, conservative states like Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho etc. would have basically no say whatsoever. That's not to say I like the electoral college, either. I believe in democracy; that the people should have what they want, and that's exactly what's happening now. It's a new age, a new people and a new world. While I'm certainly willing to try, I hold no hope of taking the country back, and really the only thing left for our kind to do is stick together and try to make our own, new nation. I just haven't figured out where, yet.

You might be right, but I think the electoral college is an outdated piece of garbage and we the people still get screwed. I live in a small state and know what it is like to be lost in the shuffle. In my state, unless you live in the north, you really do not have much in the way of progress. A new system might be in order here, but I do not think the idea of giving someone from a small or sparsely populated state an inflated number of votes would work well.

A debate with someone like you is pointless. You're not open-minded enough to even consider another's point of view and simply too stuck in your ways, regardless of how accurate the counterpoint may be.

Congratulations. You're the most obstinate one here.

I understand why some people would not want to do the Pledge of Allegiance, and I'm alright if they do not take part in it. I however will do it as I like doing it as well as I like my country.

And a hearty congratulations to you as well, cox. You are nothing but another millennial that thinks that it is okay to not do things. Maybe you are the one that does not see things for how they are or should be. It is a right and a privilege or being an American. But I guess you would not know that.

Oldschool777 : Lol, what?????? The whole principle of America was that people had more freedom than in whatever country they came from. Being forced to say the pledge is against everything America is about. Also, I don't think whether you say the pledge or not changes your nationality on your passport. If you've immigrated from Thailand, and you're not a citizen yet, but you say the pledge, you are not American, at least, not officially. If you were born and lived your whole life in America, but you don't say the pledge, how does that make you not American??? How would you like it if you were forced to be a certain religion, or forced to have a political party? In fact, if people are forced to say the pledge, that will only bring down the opinion of the US to them.

Not sure what this is all about : " You are nothing but another millennial that thinks that it is okay to not do things." Millenials do a lot of things. Texting and driving, having a bad taste in music, and they're are literally responsible for all wars to have ever happened.

It is about instilling pride and loyalty,RDay. It is about honor and respect for an ideal. I will not argue with you,you do not know better and like Christ,I forgive you.

As someone living in the netherlands this entire concept just seems weird to me, so I agree with the people opting out of it.

What I don't get is why you would want to force people. Just seems pointless and dumb to me tbh.

Oldschool777 : The Greek's democracy was a little better, these are some examples

slaves did become civilians after a certain time. the USA version made people pay to become a civilian. you may look at it as a bad thing but they showed that they want to help the country, anything like isis attacks is treated like any criminal. there is no possible to know who is good or bad it's all about finding them.

Everyone no matter who you were was given different freedom but at the same time was to follow the same rules. USA version is so complex, I don't even know where to start.

Voting can be explained with this video: http://www.pbs.org/video/2365796440/

USA version makes you (the people) impossible to stop any law.

So like the video explains, America is not a democracy. You didn't vote for your laws, you allowed corrupt people to stay in offices, and you allowed them to have days off. In a way, America is really a Nationalism country govern under leaders who do not want to move into a democracy law.Today's technology, does allow us to vote one per

Today's technology does allow us to vote one per year were in the past wasn't possible. If greek's democracy is added today:

You would be able to kick out both nominees from being president.

No bad laws or meanless wars like 1798 were Americans undeclared war on the newly made democracy France or Prohibition on beer (those were dark times).

No more "recess for a month" for congress, they only get it on holidays like every working business man.

Corrupt people like president Nixion will be banned from the country for 10 years (that should fix them).

and more.

Mastergame,I think you are confused. The Greeks may have laid down the foundation of democracy, but trust me they screwed it up so much.

In the US,you are a civilian unless you join law enforcement or the military.

We all have to follow the same laws. The reason why it seems the rich or famous follow different rules is no different than in ancient Greece.

Voting in the US is basically a joke. We the people DO NOT elect the president.

If you feel a law is unjust, you can tell your Congress Representative or your Senator, and explain why you think it is unjust.

Have a nice day.
