I know I get vizzed for description words. Today I don't care. I'm depressed. I want to be a counselor, yet no one counsels me. I'm in desperate need of some one to talk to. I'm not thinking suicide, yet the hint is still there. I need something

I've felt depressed at many times in my life, and I almost never get counseling for it.

I don't know your situation, so I can't help much, but I will say one thing- look at the good things that may come out of your situation. Maybe you'll become stronger from it, or learn some critical life lessons from it.

Do you have parents that you can talk to them about it? Any friends? I find that talking to close friends of mine usually helps me. Also, feel free to PM me~ I don't bite, even if I don't really know how to help that much :s.

Like Zero said, since I do not know your situation I cannot help you much. Maybe telling us your problem more specifically? I've been depressed once in my entire life, which was recently in fact (last year). I nearly went to a psychologist, but I decided not to. How did I get out of depression? Close friends, support, but most importantly: Laughter. It is the best medicine, and it's really contagious. I think once I know you situation more I might be able to help, but for now that's all I can give you.

damionkeep4 :

"You look tired...Get some rest."

-Jason Bourne

I've struggled with depression many, many times. When that happens, I have to get my mind away from self-pity and the like to have lasting happiness again. Instead of thinking too much, "I need help", it helps to think "who can I help?" or "how can I prepare myself to help?" or "what do I need to do right now to improve my future and that of those around me?". I've found that as I try to help, I'm helping myself. Counsel right now. Counsel who you can, drawing from your experiences. The best way to become a counselor is not to be counseled, but to counsel. Learning by observing is one thing, but learning by practice makes all that come alive and gives you happiness as you see yourself grow, and even more when you see others grow because of what you did.

Maybe you could start by sharing your experiences on Vizzed? See if you can find people to teach and relate to. Tell them what you've gone through, what has helped, and see if they can tell you what has helped them.

Hope this helps!

We all have depression at times. If we did not have it,we would not be human. Now,I know in this hyper-PC,have to be positive, can't express your true feelings without someone calling the police,it is almost impossible. Helping someone else with their issues can give you something else to focus on and you may help yourself in the process. I usually just game or beat the snot out of the punching bag if I feel down.

Hi! Did you mean that you want to see a counselor, or that you want to become a counselor in the future?

If you need someone to talk to, you can PM me and I'll see if I can help you.

If you meant that you want to become a counselor though...

Counseling begins with yourself. If you're not emotionally stable, you can't help anyone else. Think of it this way... If even you don't believe that you are truly capable of counseling someone else, who else would take you seriously or believe you? You are your best advocate, and if you want a certain job, then you have to begin by making yourself look the part. With enough practice, you'll become it. This goes for any field, not just counseling. Think about what your own expectations are for people of every professional field and then try to mold yourself into the one for "counseling." For something like counseling, most people expect to meet someone who is mentally and emotionally stable and knows the path to happiness (of course, that's not always true), and they expect that their counselor will be able to show them that path because the counselor supposedly knows what they're doing. Well, if you're new at counseling and you don't seem to know your stuff or appear to lack experience, some people might start getting a bit concerned or worried that you can't fully understand or help them, but they won't necessarily write you off immediately unless you also show them that you're not exactly stable in the ways they're expecting you to be. Thus, I repeat... start small and begin with yourself. Make sure you at least appear to be stable to yourself (don't look like you're depressed, emotionally unstable or anything like that) and then maybe you'll have an easier time of convincing others to follow you. If you already feel that you have done everything you possibly could to be confident and you also look the part, then it may be something else that's hindering you, for instance, what you say about your treatments. If even you don't believe in your own treatments, you probably can't convince anyone else to try them either, so make sure you appear confident in that respect as well. This really is the same for any job.
