Which stroke/method do you prefer using when you're swimming (front stroke, back stroke, etc.)? Is it the easiest for you to do?

I really don't like using the back stroke and doing the breast stroke can be tedious for me so I prefer to swim using the front stroke. It's by far the easiest one I know how to do and I have a lot of fun doing it repeatedly

Well its easier to back strokes. I wouldn't very good with the front ones because I never got them right even though I tried so hard....but when I used to take swimming lessons back in school. The teacher told me it was better I did back strokes. I was mainly afraid of the deep end part of the water because one time before I almost drowned, and I still kind of remembered that.....so I hope that explains a few things. @.@

I think backstroke...the one where you just lay on your back and move with your arms. That's the most relaxing for me, so that's normally what I do. Not sure if it's called the backstroke or not though.

On the other hand, I can move alot faster doing what I think is the freestyle, so I do that when I'm swimming laps or trying to get somewhere quickly. To be honest though, I normally just walk in the pools, that's the easiest way for me to do get around in water.

Back strokes are too hard for me. xD

My dad actually used to be a lifeguard at Disney World so he taught me how to swim really well. After I practiced a bit, I actually went into this little swimming race thing at church camp last year and found out that I'm actually a fast swimmer. I mean, I got 3rd place, but there was like 15 people there, and I never thought of myself as a fast swimmer, so getting 3rd place made me proud.

I use the front stroke most of the time, if not all the time. I've learned a trick to going faster in swimming. If you keep your hands cupped the whole time, your acceleration will be greater and it will help you go faster. It's kind of obvious but I failed to notice it until about 2 years ago, heh.

Like Titan said, I'm pretty sure the one I use most is called freestyle. I can do backstroke and breast stroke since I used to be on a swim team for a few years, but they were never my forte. Growing up I was by far the fastest swimmer out of my group of friends. The only one who came close, ironically enough, was a bigger fella *with webbed toes.* Yes, his toes were literally webbed haha. I think they're still like that to this day, since they couldn't use surgery to remove it (something to do with arteries running through the webbing, I think?).

But other than that, my favorite way to swim would be under the water's surface. I don't really know if there's a name for that style of swimming, but there's a particular form I use, so maybe there is? Instead of simply doing laps, I always like to swim the length of our pool and back under the surface, trying to get further each time without taking a breath. Me and my friends used to compete doing things like this all the time, and a few of us, myself included, nearly passed out from pushing ourselves a little too hard lol.

If I'm just swimming about, I prefer back stroke. Lying in your back, floating about seeing the clear blue sky... It's kind of a relaxing feeling.

If I'm aiming to move or swim from point A to point B, then freestyle is my choice. It's the fastest one, and along with back stroke, the easiest and most practical, since you don't need to sink your whole head into the water.

Eniitan : I've had the same issue about being afraid of the deep end of a pool. Last year, I came close to sinking when I was doing a back stroke incorrectly and when I just barely made it across the whole pool, I bonked the top of my head on the wall which was pretty painful. I never do a back stroke anymore because I remember that and get scared or I get nervous about hurting my head again. Plus I've never had much fun doing it and I like to be able to see where I'm going.

Titan127 : I think that's called the back stroke but I'm not an expert on swimming so I'm not sure. I used to walk my way across a shallow pool before I learned how to swim. Now I find it faster and somewhat easier to just swim the front stroke to get across since I'm used to it.

Lexatom : Back strokes are difficult for me too. Wow that's cool! It sounds like your dad did teach you really well I never knew about that hand-cupping trick until I read your post, I'll have to try that next time XD

Mynamescox44 : It's cool that you were on a swim team, I know some people in my school that are. Someone with webbed toes almost being as fast as you is impressive. I don't think there's a name for underwater swimming, but once in a while I like doing that too. I have trouble holding my breath for over 5 seconds so it doesn't last very long :/

Pacman+Mariofan Oh....sorry to hear about that. I would had never expected you to experience that. But anything can happen....its fine when people can't do back stokes some can and some can't that's the fact of life really. People will swim how they feel most comfortable doing it. And also being happy the way, that they do it. So I completely understand that.

Eniitan : I'm glad to hear you understand that, thank you! I'm definitely happy with the way I do it even if it's the most common way. I don't have to do things different from others to be happy  I can do the front stroke pretty quickly and it's always fun to do unless I'm too exhausted to do it.

Pacman+Mariofan : No problem! Looks like I failed summon you... I might had accidentally take of the dotted line for that. Anyways. Yeah maybe I hope if I can go back to swimming one day, that I can relearn things. I can even try to face my fears, and do the front strokes! I could become a whole lot better than I was in the past. Who knows? I might just even do! Sorry about that I just got to excited from over thinking that. XD

Freestyle and/or butterfly are easiest for me. I'm an avid swimmer, used to do it all the time, and I find that method to just be the easiest in going around fastest. It also seems like the least amount of work for me for some reason. I also have a hard time floating on my back (though I can do it) so backstroke isn't so easy for me.

Eniitan : That's a great idea! I think I'll try to face my fears of staying in the deep end, and try to stay there for a longer period of time than I have in the past.

Minuano : I've heard that butterfly strokes can be super hard so I'm surprised you find it easy. My swimming instructor was a really experienced swimmer and he still struggled with butterfly strokes!

Pacman+Mariofan : I think it will both do us good if we were to do that lol. So it can help us a lot to do with swimming and we could one day say hey! I'm a pro at this because it was the one thing I was scared to do! Or something like that. XD

Pacman+Mariofan : So when we get to tackle the problem we will be able to know how properly how to do it. Instead of having constant fears about them in a way. I look forward to the day for when that happens. I'll let you know if I will do it and when. And who knows you'll be able to bypass that problem you had with back strokes.

Eniitan : Exactly, I'm looking forward to that as well. I think I could overcome my back stroke problem but since I never enjoyed doing it, that will likely be difficult.

MuseFanBoy : There isn't anything wrong with using a pool tube. Time in the pool can be more relaxing that way.

Butterfly! XD My favorite styles for swimming are butterfly and the strokes you listed, mostly because the medleys require them (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, although my preferences don't follow that order). Crossing the entire pool without surfacing is fun, too. On days with awesome weather, I will sometimes go to the outdoor pool (deep end so there won't be any little kids to crash into) and just lie back to float in the water. I know it's bad to not wear a cap (sorry), but I love the soothing feeling of the water caressing my hair and body as I float as still as possible, seemingly without a care in the world (it's a good way to relax until I either hit my head on the lane dividers or fall asleep and start to sink). It's also fun to try to guess where I'll end up in the pool. One time, I opened my eyes to find a lifeguard looking back at me with some concern. Apparently, he'd been trying to figure out if I was still alive. XD Even so, I actually don't like backstroke as much as freestyle because I swim a lot faster with freestyle and butterfly. Butterfly makes me feel like a dolphin or a fish. =P For the meets though, I'd definitely choose freestyle as my favorite since that one and butterfly are the ones I'm most proficient at (sorry, but even after all this time, I still don't really enjoy jumping backwards for backstroke and breaststroke is what I use to relax when I don't want to go underwater to get my hair wet, so I tend to forget I have to swim quickly with that one, too). ^^0 Otherwise, I love swimming and someday I hope to go somewhere with lovely sparkling lights in the sky and water/scenery like a certain place in Final Fantasy X in Macalania...
