Mohammedroxx3 : lol yeah, pretty much. Eniitan doesn't like the TdV though. xD

Mynamescox44 : I'd be in the younger category there. That would probably be the best solution, but you also have to think, if not for a certain someone, the two top teams (not the trusted, XD) would have actually been pretty close, lol. Your putting up points well over the four hundred point mark is what made it so unbalanced in the end. xD

Titan127 :
Now that I look at it, if you completely remove my score from the Team totals, the Mods would've ended up winning lol. That blows my mind I scored that many of our teams points. I nearly had 50% of all the points for my team XD

And yea, seeing the general ages of users around the site, I can only imagine doing Adults (18) vs Kids, or maybe Drinking Age (21 in US) Vs Younger would be the most balanced way to split them.

Because of how young most of the site is, I can't imagine you could split it up any other way and it still be fair, unless you do something like everyone born in each consecutive year is on a team (like '91 is team one, '92 is team two, '93 is team three, and so on until it starts over for team one), and you just rotate through how ever many teams you want. But that idea has been done (multiple times I think?) before, just with different concepts other than birth year.

Mynamescox44 : I think that would still be imbalanced the way things currently stand. Pretty much all of the active TdV competitors that have won an overall jersey or placed in the top 3 the past few TdVs have all been above 18. The only exception being myself but I don't exactly compete every TdV either because of timezones and even in the event that I did probably couldn't carry my team. I think what this team competition has shown which needs to be applied before we make a new one is that there's a difference between how the general memberbase looks and the people who actually compete TdV. Putting most active competitors on the same team is the kind of thing that will make it really one sided.

Zlinqx :
Well, the only problem is you never know who, or what criteria the people competing will fall under before it actually starts. Even if you could find the perfect algorithm that would tell you how to split the teams as perfectly as possible, 3 days in to the competition the biggest competitors for any given team may have to quit, and things are imbalanced again.

No matter how perfect our ideas are ( not saying any of mine are by any means lol ), there's just no telling how it will play out until it's actually happening. The best team competition methods could end up being the most one-sided just because of the unpredictability of life.

I'd rather keep having them, whether they turn out to be landslides or not, over just giving up the competition altogether, even if only for a little while. The more we do it, the more we can learn from it and try to make it better. If we stop doing them, I feel people will either lose interest altogether and never bring it back at all, or when we finally do bring it back, the exact same thing will happen that is happening now because to some extent it's unavoidable.

Mynamescox44 : We can't predict exactly who's going to compete but usually there's a crowd of "TdV regulars" who compete to some extent in most TdVs (zander, janus, gamer etc.) If we use that idea they would all be on the same team and I think that's the main thing we want to avoid. Pretty much every time the competition has been really one sided those all ended up on the same team which was a big contributing factor to why it ended that way.

Really unless someone can think of a good idea that would split those people up and manage to keep things at least interesting I don't see the point. Wouldn't be much reason to why we can't just let people create their own teams again. Last time we did that it was probably still the most successful team competition over the past few TdVs.

Zlinqx :
Oh, no, I wasn't necessarily trying to defend the "age difference" concept of how to divide the teams, but just speaking in a general sense about the competition as a whole.
Also, the age gap wouldn't have to be done at the ages I recommended. We could look at the average age of those who tend to score the most, and split them by the median. Though with users like me, gamer, zander, enii, and so many more being so close together, it would be hard to find the right age to split it at. I mean 25 would probably be too high, yet 21 is too low, so it's a fine line in trying to divide them evenly, let alone splitting them into more than 2 teams lol.

Personally, I think being able to pick our own teams is probably the best way to go. Knowing the people you're competing with are in it to win just as much as you, or you at least trust them to compete as best they can will make you want to work for it more yourself. Instead of dividing by criteria, it's like playing a pick-up sports game, where you can choose each member depending on their strengths, or even just doing it with friends, which makes it more fun for everyone involved.

Mynamescox44 : Yep. You were the reason that your team smashed through the competition with seeming ease. Congragulations lol. You are officially the reason that we can't find a way to host a balanced team competition. xD No clue how we really could have a balanced team competition, really, that I can think of. So that's up to just about everyone besides myself.

I'm not going to lie as soon as furret did his post. I was hoping the trusted can make him lose the bet and he did! Something like that can motivate people to post since its based on something, that furret doesn't really like. It made it more funnier for when he posted up, that thread which was simply amazing lol. XD

If we had more of that, it would help people to feel more motivated. To push them posting to make that person lose the bet.
