For the 3DS, the only games I played so far were only pokemon. I was considering about trying something new to get the most out of my handheld. Is project x zone and fire emblem a good start?

Jygin :

How about you guys?

It is, but there's also some other suggestions that I would make.

Super Mario 3D World: This one's pretty self-explanatory. A very well-designed game, although it could be a bit longer. A great title for the early 3DS library.

Bravely Default and Bravely Second: If you like turn-based RPGs like Pokemon, you should like these. They combine an interesting story with a bunch of great mechanics that really breathe new life into Final Fantasy-style turn-based RPGs.

Aside from that, you might want to look through the eShop and see if there's anything there that interests you. I've found some surprisingly good games that were cheap digital-only releases. I hope this post is helpful to you.

NovemberJoy : Super mario 3D world and bravely default seem like pretty good games. I'll give them a try. This was very helpful. Thanks! Do you have anymore suggestions, by any chance?

Final Weapon : all of those games can be played on the 3DS I have them all and the Youkai Watch game is a good one though it isn't really a starting out 3DS game because of the one point in the game has you run for your life away from a huge monster that I have yet to defeat with my team since I couldn't always make it to the exit in time

I'd get the new pokemon games that are set to be released this year since they are the next in line for the series

Final Weapon : Well, you seem to be a Pokemon type of guy. So, I guess you would like RPGs, like what Jygin and November said. Since Yo Kai and Bravely Default is already an option, how about Fire Emblem? They are not really RPGs but they are strategy game franchise. There is already Fates and Awakening. Awakening and Fates should keep you coming with Dlc and story. Also, Fates have paths to make the story much more interesting. You could try Mario  and Luigi? It has a somewhat similar charm as Pokemon and it is a turn based Rpg. There's so many options in each battle and you can choose to counter each opponent's attack.
If you don't like those games, I guess you could try multiplayer games. Mario Kart 7 would be a good one, and Kid Icarus Uprising would be one as well.especially Super Smash Bros.
Finally, adventure games. How about Legend of Zelda, or Mario.
Well that's my suggestion I guess?

Final Weapon : Kid Icarus: Uprising is my favorite game of all time. The controls may take some (or a lot of) getting used to, but there is so much to enjoy: There's a great sense of humor, spectacular action, a deep battle system with a large variety of weapons, and tons of replay value (it has achievements a la Smash Bros. It's also a Sakurai game.). But once you get used to the controls, the game can be so exhilirating! The levels are well-designed, the boss fights are some of the best in any game ever, and there are a lot of hidden secrets to find. I LOVE this game. I really, really hope my brother will continue to play it. I showed him the ropes the other day, and he hasn't picked it up since, but I am hopeful. Please, please pick up this game soon if you can.

I've dumped over 500 hours into Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and I still play it, as it still hasn't gotten boring to me. My favorite thing about that game is the fact that whatever monster you kill/capture, you can use his parts to make weapons and armor. There are also so many different kinds of weapons, that you should have no problem finding one that you like to play more than the others. Or, if you're like me, you like them all, because they all have their strengths. XD

You do need a great amount of skill in the late game, or online though, it's not really an easy game. Playing with friends online or local is a requirement at G-Rank, where they monsters can still kill you in one hit, even with maxed out armor. It takes a tremendous amount of skill, and a great deal of luck, but if you like fighting massive monsters, and tearing them apart, just to wear them later, I highly recommend Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

Or you could wait for the newest installment, which is supposed to out this summer, Monster Hunter Generations. It takes all the different weapons and gives them different styles you can choose from, to further enhance the uniqueness of each weapon, and further fit your particular play style, it looks amazing.

Legend of Zelda" A Link Between Worlds was a great game, that was reminiscent of the older Zelda games. Check that one out, if you like Zelda games, and haven't played this one yet.

I'm planning on buying it very soon, so even though I don't actually own it, Hyrule Warriors: Legends is probably going to be fantastic. I played the one on the Wii U, and it's basically Dynasty Warriors with Legend of Zelda characters. You can play as Zelda, Link, Shiek, Gannondorf, Skull Kid, Tetra (from Wind Waker), Linkle, and a bunch of others, as well as some original characters made for that game. I'm excited for it. The only thing I was a little disappointed about, is that they have no multiplayer. I'm usually not a fan of multiplayer stuff, but I did really want to play this with my friends.

Yep, sorry that was so long... Well... So long! XD

Final Weapon : I should mention that you'll likely find it cheaper on the eShop. Last time I checked, physical copies ran expensive. Also, have you signed up for MyNintendo yet? If you link accounts with your NNID, you can earn Gold coins. These coins can be spent on rewards, including games!

Well if you have money, I would suggest getting the current Nintendo Humble Bundle. It gives you a bunch of 3DS and Wii u games. For $1 I think you get 2 3ds games, and with the $13 one I think you get 5, and some of them are pretty good, so I would suggest checking that bundle out. It's a really cheap way to get games, so even if you don't end up liking all of them its still worth it.

Have you ever tried out The Legend of Zelda before? If not, its 3DS games are awesome. OOT3D is a good start if you never tried the series before. Trust me you'll love it.
