So yeah my birthday is coming up soon, so I'm having trouble deciding which option I want to do. I really like my ps3 but, I'm considering getting a Nintendo 3ds to play games like Pokémon and Zelda games. Please help me on this decision and thanks for your help. Will take the highest vote by end of April so yeah.

I voted 3DS because I personally have had a lot of fun on a 3DS with games such as Kid Icarus: Uprising, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and Super Mario 3D Land (there's also Shovel Knight, which has several upcoming free DLC coming up!).  If Amiibo functionality matters to you, you'll need to get a New 3DS.  But there aren't a lot of games that are compatible with them.

However, PS3 has some awesome games, too, from what I've heard, such as Ni no Kuni, Journey, and many downloadable PS1 titles at like $7 prices (plus the sales are often more steep than those seen on the 3DS).  Plus, with PS Plus, you'll get free games, although if you want to access them, you'll have to keep the subscription.

Get the 3DS, if it was a PS4 instead of a PS3, then I would have said get that, but the PS3 is old, they only make a few games for it now and don't even make the systems anymore while the 3DS and games are still brand new and will keep going for a while. Why get a dead system?

I went with PS3 simply because I believe the games for it are much better and a better variety. If you've already played through almost everything you'd want to, then trade it. Otherwise, there are plenty of PS3 games on the market to keep you entertained for a long time. And it's all super cheap now compared to what it was. It's really just a matter of preference.

zanderlex : If it's only a status symbol to you, then yeah, there's no reason to buy a dead console. However, if it's actually about enjoying great games for a great system, then it really boils down to what kind of game you like. PS3's library seems rather diverse, but with the 3DS, you get a lot of Nintendo exclusives. Saying a system is "dead" because it's not the newest thing around is like saying a 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air or a 1968 Pontiac GTO is dead because they don't make them anymore.

twilight : I voted for the PS3. Don't get me wrong, I also just as equally like the 3DS, but when I had it I eventually got bored of it because there were only a few games that I enjoyed playing on it at the time. Like pokemon, zelda, and mario. I sold mine for a PSP Vita. But I think some more games that you might enjoy were recently added. This is all just my opinion, though. I think you should go with which ever one that will truly make you happy.

I'm a HUGE Nintendo fan, and it pains me to say this, but I'd have to vote with keeping the PS3. Let me explain why.

If you trade in your PS3, you're already going in with the expectation that the games are going to be better than what you've experienced with the PS3. The games are great (IMO) but if you don't find them to be exceptional, you're probably going to be disappointed (expectations lead to disappointments). Think of it as like when you get hyped up for a game, but although it was really good, you were still disappointed because you thought it'd be absolutely amazing. I'd also just like to point out that there'd be some major differences between the 2 consoles: One is handheld, the other obviously you'd have a bigger screen; PS3 if you're currently watching DVD's on, you wouldn't be able to with the DS3, etc.

Can you possibly save up for a DS3, or ask for one for Christmas? If you're itching to try Zelda, it's also on this site for N64 (as well as some Pokemon games I might add).

I personally recommend the 3DS since it can do pretty much the same things the PS3 can do, and being a handheld at the same time. Plus it has a great selection of games to choose from like Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, and New Super Mario Bros 2. It also is able to download full games (If space on SD allows) that are the same game, but you don't need to haul around a bunch of cartridges. Take it from a guy who has both the console's you want, and get the 3DS.

PS3 all the way man, huge catalog, you have the option to download ps2 and ps1 classics and the console is cheap to collect for (depending on where you shop).

zanderlex : Just because the system is dead doesn't really mean that the player bases are dead. Why play on a site where literally all the games are from dead systems? Just saying that you don't need "new" games to have fun at all.

Anyway. Depends entirely on what you want. What kind of games do you typically play? If it's fighting games I'd say easily go for PlayStation as all 3ds really has is smash bros and while it's exclusive you'll get more out of games like Street Fighter and Guilty Gear probably. If you like shooting games still PS3, RPGs? Both work, just depends on the game you want. Plat- formers are probably better on 3ds but I mean it's really really all situational and based on what game(s) you actually want to play.

Edit: Forgot to add, personally I enjoy my PS3 quite much, but would also probably enjoy being able to play Smash Bros whenever I wanted. So there really are perks to both.

Honestly Although the PS3 is in fact a great system, I would honestly tell you to get the NEW 3DS XL. It has a WAY better screen/3D functionality than the first Gen 3DS and the 3D stays in focus a lot longer. Also, the addition of the 2nd Analog stick was VERY much needed.

That being said, I would get it used, because the NX is set to come out (Next year?) and I'm not sure how much longer the 3DS will still have games developed for it.

As it sits now though, there are a ton of games I would recommend for the 3DS.

Super Smash

Luigis Mansion Dark Moon

Bravely Default and now Bravely Second was just released (Great RPG's)

The Pokemon games

Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon

A Link Between Worlds (Direct Sequel to a Link to the Past)

NES Ultimate Remix

Mario and Luigi's Dream team

Mario and Luigi's Paper Jam - Just came out recently

The Fire Emblem Games

There are more games, but these are just a handful to get you started.

It depends if you actively travel a lot and would actually use the handheld outside your house often. If the answer is no... then it's easily the ps3.

Also the ps3 has a lot more quality games and a larger diversity of console... the controller is better, you'll be playing it on a better screen and the games will be cheaper....

PS3 pretty much wins in every category except for it not being portable. As for people saying the 3ds has exclusives... there's a lot more games that can't be played on a 3ds than on the ps3 lol....

Honestly i just feel that people give nintendo far more credit than what it deserves

I won't vote, but I'd like to give my say on this anyhow. It's also an explanation to why I won't vote.

Ultimately, I stick with Nintendo almost all the time, so it's an easy choice, for me. It's not because I'm blind and don't think much of any non-Nintendo game like the average Nintendo fanboy, but more because they produce more of the genres I love, as well as have series that have almost no relatable version on other consoles (Super Smash Bros. and Kirby). I dislike FPS games and RPGs, and while I can enjoy sandbox games (GTA/Saints Row for example), they don't capture my attention for long enough for me to really care about getting a console for those.

On the flip side, platformers are my most adored genre of all time, and that's something that is rather plentiful when it comes to Nintendo. And most of the few RPGs I can really enjoy (specifically speaking here, the Mario & Luigi series) are from Nintendo. It also has one of the only shooter games I've cared to play for a long time because it's far more fast-paced and suitable to someone who doesn't enjoy waiting in games (Kid Icarus: Uprising).

I've dealt with PlayStation. I've dealt with XBox. I know why people enjoy those consoles... ... ...but those aren't consoles and game libraries for me.

And...that's also why I won't vote on this matter. While I have strong reasons to get a 3DS over a PS3, those same reasons could easily be reversed based on what your preferences for games are. If you enjoy FPS games or RPGs, I'd give the PS3 a very good look before opting out on keeping it. There's a lot of good stuff in its game library as a whole.

I voted PS3 and I could back that vote up with tons of great game suggestions ranging all the way from PS3 to PS2 games that you can download and even the original PlayStation titles available for it, and some classic retro games, etc. And yeah, the PS3 has a bigger library and much more diversity. But those who vote 3DS can offer reasons as well.

However that reasoning is pointless. What it all comes down to is what kinds of games you prefer, because frankly PS3 and 3DS couldn't be more different. Don't trade the system in for two or three games though. Research what you would like to play on each system, and whichever has the best sounding games that you want to play, that's the best choice for you.

I would keep the PS3 as it has a very diverse library and you'll just regret trading it in later on. As great of a system the 3DS is I wouldn't trade another system for it. I suggest saving up money instead of trading in the PS3.

EDIT: Errr nevermind, you made your mind XD
