I've added a section toward the top of the index page of the Retro Game Room which displays the top 7 game systems, 4 recently added games and 4 of the most popular daily games.

This content only appears on the index page and doesn't appear on any system page or search result page in the RGR. I'm testing this out to see if it'll help draw more attention to the things that the RGR has to offer.

Users tend to prefer seeing graphics instead of words so drawing more attention to some of the more popular systems in the RGR using box art graphics I'm hoping grabs the attention to newcomers.

Showing the recently added games and most popular games should hopefully show users that the site is constantly updating and also show them more games that they can try out if they run out of games to play.

EDIT: While I was at it, I added the RGR game and system count to the top of the information area. I think this should help put into perspective just how many games the RGR has to offer. Some users may not even realize just how many games are in there.

I love the idea, great work!

A brief suggestion, perhaps limit the amount of pokemon games that show up? All 4 of the 'most popular games' are pokemon, and that doesn't necessarily help me expand my gaming horizons. Perhaps a max of 2 games per series?

mrfe : The popular games do change once a new day begins. Right now it's only 2 Pokemon games. I could maybe look into that though if it doesn't add too much strain to the page. I basically want the index page to load as fast as possible. Also keep in mind that you can click the link to see all of the most popular games if you want a more thorough list.

That's a good point. I definitely agree that speed is important, though it'd be nice to find a way to mix it up a bit without too much strain. As a newbie, if all I see is pokemon, I'll be tempted to kinda tunnel-vision, and not really explore beyond it. Just a thought, of course.

I noticed this update last night, and it came in handy for me already! One of the recently added games was one I was happy to see and try out

I think this will make the RGR even more popular. Finding a new game system will most likely make the users who found the system want to play many games on that system! Also, many people like seeing top lists of things so they'll be hooked on that section right away.
