I have seen quite a lot of useless things during my time as a gamer, but magikarp may as well should take home the cake for this one. It's only attack is to flop around on the ground and do nothing. It makes me wonder if it was originally intended to be some kind joke.

Abra is basically the same way in a battle with it's only move of Teleport (Gen 3 games). But I guess, even then, you can teleport to your last heal spot....
As for in other games, the dang chickens in Legend of Zelda. Yes, you do a side quest to get a bottle after you collect them all, but you're trying to save the world from Ganandorf. Why the heck should Link take the time to do that (and the other numerous side quests)?

Having magikarp evolve into gyrados is the whole point of having magikarp. If magikarp was stronger, then the evolution wouldn't have been as great as it is. Something useless in gaming is stat items that only raise your stats during battle.

Here's something useless that I've found: the water pistol in MGS5. Now I know it's meant to be a joke item, but it's still completely useless in practically every situation. Even when you're fighting the Man on Fire, who is weak against water, it doesn't do anything at all.

Also, those two Pokemon do have some use, since they can become far more powerful after evolving. Gyarados is actually one of the strongest Pokemon in any situation, and Psychic types are super OP in the older generations, although they were given more weaknesses as the series went on.

A perfect example of a useful ability in a game, the rest ability in Kirby, IT DOES NOTHING!!! Its just there to add challenge in certain areas, it doesn't even heal you, or put other enemies to sleep, or anything of the sort.

In the Super Smash Bros series you would think any item you pick up would help you gain a upper edge in the competition but that's not the case. In the Super Smash Bros series those unfortunate may pick up a Pokeball and unleash a ferocious goldeen on the battlefield I call these defective pokeballs. Catchy right? Another useless thing is somewhere in Hyrule in Wind Waker is Outset Island and on that island are pigs just for show so go ahead and pick one up. At least the cuckoos in the recent Zelda games could harm you lol.

TONS OF READING. I love Paper Mario, but the Thousand Year Door had *tons* of reading in it. It is fun the first time, but the second time (and third, etc) it's just a major annoyance to deal with.

Changes colour in Shadow of Mordor to let you know that you got killed - but you'd already know that as you're playing it, lol.

I know of one, the Break Time command from Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. You start breakdancing and restore some HP but its useless considering you have potions, Cura, enemies or savepoints for HP things. It sucks in-battle too because you're wide open for like 30 seconds straight.
