What is your favorite Christmas cookie? mine is.... well i just eat the ones we have.... and i don't ask the name of them ..... so..... what is your?

Mine would have to be the gingerbread man. Also I do love shortbread biscuits as well. Its either one of these two I ask my mum to get or I would bake it myself for Christmas so that I can eat it. I look forward to having another bunch around this time of the holiday again. XD

Does whiskey and coke count?  That's about the only sweets I enjoy for the holiday.  My Aunt used to make a shortbread cookie in the shape of a pretzel that had some red cinnamon and green gummy  candies on it, and those were really good, but I don't remember the name of it.  That would have to be my favorite christmas cookie

Anyways, my favorite Christmas-related cookie has to be the gingerbread cookies, It's something in those cookies that makes me want to have more and more. Plus, my family is lazy, instead of making some, we just buy them at the store.

Pfeffernüsse!  They are like gingerbread cookies but they're smothered in powdered sugar.  I have no idea how to make them but I know a bunch of places to get them by the box for rather sane prices.

A close second are those cookies my mother's side of the family would always make around Christmas.  I have no idea if they have a name beyond Christmas Cookies but they're pretty much just balls of buttery dough that are splattered in icing and sprinkles.  Tasty, cheap, and very simple to make.

Another cookie I love but my family tends to make around Christmas because why not are Pignoli and Amaretti.  They're pretty much the same almond-paste + almond meal cookie its just that one is studded with pine nuts and the other is dusted with sugar.  When done right they're soft but not too soft instead of being too hard or crunchy like most bakeries tend to make them.  Amaretti in the supermarket.tend to be about the size of a quarter, crunchy and hard, and often have large air pockets.  They're not terrible its just barely the same cookie.

lordbeilal669: That's the weirdest way I have ever heard of having a Christmas cookie that way. I wouldn't eat it because it will make me sick. But it seems it makes other people happy to eat it. As long as that person is happy eating it then that is all that matters. ^^


BlueMagikoopa : I really like how your post is. I mean to have gingerbread cookies smothered in powered sugar is perfect heaven! Also butter cookies are another thing to eat. I would like to try out somethings like almond meal cookie maybe I can try and bake that myself to try to eat.

Eniitan : Thanks, its just one of the free or ridiculously cheap layouts but its a nice and simple one.

On topic -
Another name for them are "German Spice Cookies".  I've seen them with icing instead of powdered sugar which makes much less of a mess, but I prefer the sugar.  As for the Christmas Cookies, I guess you can just google "Italian Christmas Cookies" for an idea?  All I remember that go into them are egg, butter, flour, and sugar.  I think they also have ricotta but I can't swear to it.  All I remember is the yum.
The almond cookies need (according to memory) almond paste, almond meal, egg whites, powdered sugar, and I think vanilla extract.  I just don't remember if they need anything else but lemon zest helps give it a bit of extra yum.

I just miss the big ol' gingerbread cookies this one bakery near my uncle's used to sell.  They were huge gingerbread men and women but they were the same price and the girls had more cookie owing to the "dress" but less cherries for gumdrops.  Perfect but to this day I can't find a place that makes them the same way and just as soft.

I didn't mean she made them with whiskey.  That's just what I drink.  The cookies are without any liquor in them.  Just a short bread style with some candies on them

My favourite type of Christmas cookies are shortbread cookies. Every year, my Mom and myself make enough to snack on throughout the holidays and take to parties that we go to during Christmas Eve and Christmas.

My favorite however, are sugar cookies. They are like the blank canvas of cookies. You can put sugar on top of them, frost them, add things like m&ms (that's smarties for you Canadian ppl :3), or just leave them as is and they are delicious.

I like sugar cookies too but most places that sell them use thick icing that is colored in such a way that it makes the cookie look unappealing.  If I'm out buying cookies I'm prone to grabbing snickerdoodles or chocolate covered peanut butter toffee cookies.

BlueMagikoopa : I was referring to the Pfeffernüsse cookies, but if the Italian cookies you are talking about are the ones I am thinking of, they are good too.

And I understand what you mean about the store bought cookies. They tend to over ice them and with a word hard icing. Typically,I make them myself so they aren't rock solid with rock candy-like icing.

Vanelan : Ah.  Well, store-bought's store-bought.  The better ones are from bakeries but even there iced cookies (particularly themed cookies) might have rock-hard or even gummy-like icing.

Gnigerbread, pumpkin, and oatmeal with raisins are my favorite any time of the year. I love all cookies, so far.

Ginger breed cookies is what I have on most holidays. Then again, it's the only kind of cookies I eat during that time of the year.

My favorite kind of Christmas cookies are the ones that are shaped like Christmas trees and have frosting on them. Whenever I make my own, I completely cover the top with frosting!
