Guys, seriously?

Alright. Five Nights at Freddy's is a series of point-and-click video games developed by Scott Cawthon. That's IT. That's the definition of Five Nights at Freddy's.

It's not the atrocious heaps of weird, sexualized fanart or fanfictions (WHY?) involving foxes and chickens and god knows what else we'd wish we could un-see. It's not the army of whining fanboys and fangirls who scan the internet for people who don't like the series to make their lives a living hell.

That's called a
fandom, and I'm sure it's no exaggeration to say that this one is the most embarrassing yet .

I'll be honest; I don't think the plot of the series is as intricate as the fans let it on to be. I noticed that its vagueness is the characteristic that captivated so many people for some reason and got them theorizing and whatnot. I'm aware that these games have a story behind them, but the rumors and speculation make it out to be far more complicated than it actually is.

Even my favorite video game theorist MatPat shocked me. "A timeline more complicated than Zelda's"? Please. No way .

Also, is the fact that I have a "favorite video game theorist" interchangeable with "I kind of need to get a life"? Probably .

Anyway, I don't really understand the appeal other people seem to be awe-stricken by. It's kind of amusing the first few times, I guess, but it didn't take long for me to realize that I could literally just close the left door and leave it like that for eight minutes to survive the first night, haha ! (Aand I've resorted to that teenage habit of using literally even when it makes no sense again because I have no other way to express myself. *Cringe.* It hurts when you're a grammatical perfectionist.)  I haven't played it much, and I don't really intend to. I'm not very good at it, and I just prefer other kinds of games. It doesn't bore me, but it isn't that amazing. I don't get what the big deal is.

Not any more, at least... *Stares back at betrayal-stricken fandom*...

The games aren't the problem, though. It's the fandom. Oh, god, the fandom...

Where do I begin?

I don't even really need to say anything, though, do I? I mean, you've all fallen victim to members of the Five Nights at Freddy's fandom at some point during your perilous internet travels, haven't you? Yikes.

I'm not saying all the fans are overly-sensitive and immature; I have close friends who legitimately enjoy the series, but it's no secret that these games are pretty much worshiped by a lot of extremely disturbing people who can't reason with those who don't, and frankly it's just sad.

Anyway, moving on to the next group of people who astound me.

And before you say it, no, it's not the "haters!"

People have the right to find a video game series "excruciatingly boring and horrible and lame in every way possible." I don't know why they feel the need to say it so often, but whatever. If people who love the series are allowed to repeat the fact that they love it all the time, which I also find kind of strange, then so should the "haters" with their respective opinions.

What I don't like, however, is hating on people.

Do you really want to sink to the same low level they're already at?

Believe it or not, it also happens the other way round. There are also non-fans who criticize the fans! (DUN DUN DUUUN!!!)

Although initially unapparent, it's becoming more obvious now. I've been seeing more and more posts lately bunching the entire fandom together as "twelve-year-olds ready to pee their pull-ups for the new game."

Now, that's not a very nice thing to say :L.

First and foremost, not every member of a group of people is the same. Let's just get that out of the way.

Secondly, what is it with all these people on the internet who call every troll and/or crybaby online a "twelve-year-old"?! It's so weird! I don't get it !

Do you really have no better way of saying "troll" or "annoying person" than "twelve-year-old"? Is that really the only thing you can come up with ? If so, then please just stick to "troll" or "annoying person." I sure wouldn't have appreciated that when I was twelve. Not all kids that age are "brats," and I know it was tough for me. My self-esteem would shoot through the roof one day and then just go poof another. It still kind of is, actually. Not to mention the physical and mental changes that have started happening. It's tough, and "fitting in" is everyone's top priority since not doing so results in the "cool" people giving you hell. It's a scary age. Sometimes you say things you regret because suddenly everything can have negative consequences and you start becoming really self-conscious. Using the term "twelve-year-old" to refer to whiners and other less than complimentary things is not going to help them improve or feel any better. Trust me. I remember being that age and seeing insults like "don't be such a twelve-year-old" everywhere. It stung . It really did. So please stop, because I'm sure you have betters things to say than that

And if they really are so immature compared to you, then it must be pretty bad. Like, even worse than it seems. I mean, if your way of showing disrespect is calling someone a "child," then what is it they're doing ?!

Anyway, this combined with the fact that you're making fun of someone based on their interests is just mean. You're dissing people because of what they like? Really?

Five Nights at Freddy's... man, the trouble it's caused. Gah!!! Love it or hate it, but please keep the nasty comments directed towards the games themselves and not EACH OTHER! Gosh :T.

"You suck because you don't recognize how awesome this actually is."

Please just be quiet already.

"You suck because you don't recognize how lame this actually is."

Remind you of anyone ???

There have always been fandoms obsessive about different things FNaF is just one of the more recent ones that is a big topic of discussion. While I am off the opinion that most of the games are not good at all with a lot gaps really and not the most well thought out plot, that allows people to theorize which is appealing to some and to those who do enjoy that I say good for them.  As for the "haters" I think a lot of opinion just hate on the game and its fans because it's the cool thing to do, kind of like hating on a video game series like Call of Duty or other big series like MLP. People insult others because they want to seem like they are smarter and above them as it makes them feel good.

I agree with you that people should be able to openly criticize the game if they want, the saying "if you don't like something then you shouldn't say anything" is one that often annoys me assuming the one who is using it isn't referring to blindly hating on a game which a lot of the time isn't the case. If people are only able to express positive opinions there will never be any progress made with games or society in general.

Moving on from that I think a lot of the people who call these die hard fans "immature 12 year olds" aren't much older themselves and most of the time not anymore mature either insulting the person in stead of the actual point of discussion, so even using that as an insult kind of falls flat. But yeah while a lot of people are pretty immature during that age, as maturity is something that comes with age most of the time, there are always exceptions. Some mature faster than others. I agree it's not a nice thing to say and I don't think anyone should but it's the internet and there will always be trolls or just generally mean people, if you can't at least handle that to some extent considering how most sites gives you tools to do so then you probably shouldn't be using sites like that in the first place.

Edit: And yes I'll add on here the whole FNaF debate is getting kind of old at this point, there's been like 6 or 7 threads about it already, there are other things to discuss people!

Zlinqx: I'd been absent from the board up until just recently, haha! Sorry, I had no idea there were other threads about this. Anyhow, I had never discussed this particular topic before, and I really needed to let that out. I have no regrets . Could you link me to some of these threads? I want to see everyone's opinions . You're right about the people using "twelve-year-old" as an insult frequently not being much older, but I have seen people more than a decade older than twelve use it

EDIT: I'm aware of the failed summon and will notify him !

NintendoFanKimmy : No your thread is cool I was talking about people making threads about the games being good or bad, or regarding various FNaF news turning into debate threads, the whole debate about wheter the franchise is actually good or not pretty much, Not critcizing people either way, just saying I think it's time we change things up a bit more

examples (just the first ones I found, there's more)

https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=89503
https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=88713
https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=90800
https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=90032

Also yeah while I think most people aren't that much older as is the trend with most people who bother to discuss it, some are, and those probably have the impression that all twelve-year-olds are immature brats as that is what a lot of people on the internet will often have you believe. It's unfortunate.

Zlinqx :

If you don't see me posting in a debate thread on a topic you think I'd really like. Assume it's because I looked at it and I saw it going on a pointless nowhere.

NintendoFanKimmy :

Yeah, I disapprove of using the term twelve year old, baby, or even girl in a negative context. Being tweleve or thirteen can be a rough time in a person's life. I know it was for me, just glad that I had a nice family and things mostly settled out okay. I've felt the most like myself in the past seven days thanks to a new perspective.

But aside from that.

People in fandumbs are just like that. It's in Sonic too, only not as violent. . . because. . . Sonic died ten years ago.

At any rate I just ignore them and try to stay away from it all. I haven't played A FNAF game yet, nor have I really looked into them. I will say this though. The art is the most ANNOYING STUFF I'VE EVER SEEN!!!

I swear!

THERE'S MORE SUB PORNO FURRY ART OF IT EVERYWHERE THAN THERE IS OF THE CHARACTER'S ACTUAL DEPICTIONS!!!!

Either that or the same pictures just keep popping up. *sigh* What is wrong with the fandom if they have to make these. . . cute. . .chick versions of all the different . . . chicks and stuff.

I guess every fandumb as like. (Minecraft Henati hurhur) But with FNAF it seems excessive.

I really wish all that stuff would just go away.

Yes. People are far too obsessive about the fandom. I'd have a hard time saying whether the games are good or bad- as I've never played them. But yes, I concur. The. . . "haters" I guess and especially the fandumb go all too far. Remember to keep your head screwed on when you talk to people. I actually will not continue debates on subjects that are important to me, if I realize my opposition has the wrong attitude. Even if it risks making me look like I won't hold on to my ideas.

It's not so hard. Walking away and just ignoring it can be the best thing that you can do. ^^

Hmm, you know, this thread reminds me of something I did....I can't quite put my finger on it. I think it was in April? Oh, I remember!

Nope, nevermind, no clue.

Anyways, after all that happened on here, I've changed my way of thinking. Just because someone else doesn't like the series doesn't mean I should tell them to die or something stupid like that. It's just how people are made, they're going to think differently. The world would be boring without this. Now, if we could all have opinions without fighting with each other, that would be great. The Youtube comments are a great example for what you are going at.

The Youtube comments are a great example for what you are going at.

I really don't like it when anyone decides to become all defensive when someone criticizes their favorite game >.<. I mean, it's called opinions, and how would you like it if someone went down your throat for thinking different than them?

Personally, I like FNaF but I am well aware of its shortcomings. The gameplay isn't one that would keep my interest for very long, hence why I haven't played it yet and why when I'm "watching" a playthrough of it, I tend to tab out and listen to the commentary in the background. Doesn't help that I'm easily startled as well, even though FNaF doesn't scare me that much since I'm getting used to jumpscares in general. (waits for someone to attack me for not thinking the gameplay is the best thing ever).

And from a twelve year old's perspective (I'm 12)... I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE DO THAT. Just, why pick on the twelve year olds? Whenever people do that, I can't help but become at least a little bit defensive towards that person :/. Which is also why I've tried my hardest to prove myself on here and elsewhere that I'm not a terrible brat that has nothing better to do that annoy other people. A little harder to do when most people have the presumption that you're a troll .

ZeroTails :
Aww :c

It's most of the other 12 year olds who give bad impressions on people that makes us presume that most of them are brats. I don't find you that way, though

Take my brother for example, he is the definition of a "squeaker". He plays Call of Duty nonstop on the 360. He doesn't play anything else except Ocarina of Time 3D, and even that's rare. He told me Black Ops II was his favorite game of all time......I facepalmed and had a moment to cry after he told me that.

I remember when the game game first came out and I thought to myself, "Okay, this is the dumbest thing on earth."

And I was right, for me.  But I also think puzzles where you learn the alphabet aren't fulfilling or enriching but my two year old daughter loves them and go can do them over and over.

Just like every other piece of entertainment in the world, every person can do what they like and no one should criticize them.

The internet, in all it's glory, makes us more or less anonymous and lets people go after other people over the simplest things in the world.

I don't know why.

But fandom?  That's easy.  You belong to something.  You're on the inside, you're accepted by a social group, and you're COOL.  It could be 12 year olds playing FNaF.  It could be grown men painting their faces to go see the Oakland Raiders.  It could be people dressed up to go to a Renaissance Faire.  It could be anything.

Ultimately, who cares what other people like.  And as dumb as you think a person is for liking something, anything, you're even dumber if you attack them for it.

Everyone just needs to calm down.

I am one of those guys that doesn't like it nor hate it, I have in fact tried it myself and it was a pretty good horror game, but doesn't live up to the hype, just like watching one episode of MLP (because my niece was watching the show and I was at my Sister's house at the time). It takes a lot to get me interested into something new. Like with the Pokemon series, the only reason I got re-interested is because I liked the Pokemon series in the past.

I knew FNaF was really popular for it's time, but I have seen less and less users being interested in FNaF than I've seen this time last year, maybe their prime is over and this is common with popular stuff, like look at Angry Birds, it was the greatest game out there in 2010-2012 and then the series basically died off and the Flock fan base went with it.

I still seen FNaF as a really good game, but just doesn't interest me.
