I don't think Sonic Boom is a bad game. I don't think it was made for hardcore fans of the series. Maybe the makers of Sonic are purposely ignoring the fans, because they always find a reason to complain, and it is more annoying then motivating. The Sonic franchise is not dying out, it is just becoming less mainstream at the very least. The characters in Sonic Boom are wacky, hyper, and fun. Kids these days love that kind of stuff. There are kids that enjoy stuff like Amazing World of Gumball, Clarence, Steven Universe, LEGO shows, Kung Fu Panda, and all kinds of modern things that have weird, crazy elements in them. So making Sonic characters lean in that direction is not necessarily bad. Sorry, but us folks who remember the "old days" are the old guys. We aren't really kids anymore, so we don't know how we would feel if we were kids playing those games. I understand there are probably some kids and teens who say that Sonic sucks, but they are just being curmudgeons. The world is constantly changing, and so must video games. Kids who just take their time having fun with video games, probably won't even come across the glitches. Give me all the hate you want, because I will probably ignore you. So yeah. The Sonic 25th Anniversary could be the game that excites the true Sonic fans, and weeds out all of the curmudgeons.

Sonic Boom is not a bad concept.

And I've even heard that Sonic Boom on 3DS is passable.

But Rise of Lyric? No. NO. No.

I can't even understand who thought that game was a good idea for the Sonic franchise. It was slow-paced, boring, and bland; three qualities you absolutely don't expect in a Sonic game. EVER. And besides one of those points, those qualities are also never a good thing in any game. I'll admit that the heightened difference between each character is actually a welcome addition, but there are only a few pros in an otherwise mistake-ridden game. Sonic Boom's qualms are not from a glitch perspective, but from a lack of fun perspective.

And also, most games, especially those with E ratings, try to be accessible and fun to a wide group of people, not just a certain age group. Yes, kids may be the focus in this case, but that still doesn't excuse what they do wrong to anyone with a more solid judgment of gaming who might go and play it.

But I'll humor you, as well. What exactly is your idea of a true Sonic fan, and what of Rise of Lyric makes this objectively okay as a game?

I will have to disagree I found the hate for Sonic Boom justified. While you could argue it has another target audience there are way better options in terms of games for that demographic, that isn't an excuse for a game to be horrible.

 I mean the characters are completely one dimensional with no real twist on them like there might be in other kid shows and games, the gameplay boils down to repetitive button mashing, the controls are bad, it's riddled with glitches which you most of the time can't avoid, the soundtrack is barely even present and rarely matches up to what's actually going on at screen, and lastly the graphics are horrible. As in they will just skip a bunch of frames and characters will teleport from one side of the screen to another during cutscenes. It's barely even good for the Wii's standards. I could go on but I think I make my point clear.

Combine this and you really just get a boring and frustrating poorly put together experience that's just not fun, even for the intended audience. While you could look past some details in this case, if the core gameplay isn't good, it still isn't going to be entertaining especially for kids with short attention spans.

I don't think people are frustrated as much by the fact that they shifted their target audience, more that even when comparing to other games intended for that audience it is simply just not a good game, they'd be better off playing games with their audience in mind that manages to be enjoyable like Mario, Rayman, Adventure Time, The lego games etc.

Bad Sonic games I can handle.But, the characters are taking it a bit too far.Sonic has always been about his cool "don't give a crap" personality.Never changing for anyone.So it dose come as a bit as a slap in the face when he dose just that.
I mean, you can only listen to him snarkily point out some trope or something for so long.Admitting to abusing those tropes still dosen't make it a good practice.

And then there's Knuckles.I've said this once before, but, Knuckles is just unforgivable.Knuckles was supposed to be Sonic's counterpart rival, but no.Shadow took that away from him.Then he was supposed to be the strong level headed guy to Sonic's fast and furious guy, and also the red oni to his blue .But, no.Then they went too far.Who thinks it's funny to make fun of people just because their muscular?I don't.It's just mean.It was alright at first, but, do we have to constantly be reminded that he can't read, remember his directions, tie his shoes, brush his teeth, put on mittens or feed himself?I get the feeling someone on the production team was bullied by bigger kids when he was a kid or something.It goes from being a gag to seeming like it's trying to prove a point.Either way, I don't like it.

Eggman has just gotten dumber and dumber lately and it's a shame.I liked the villainous, actually competent Eggman.But, I guess this is what gets the rating these days.

Amy, no.It's like someone tried to give her more personality, but, they just made it worse.For one thing, having her try to deny and keep secret her affection for Sonic kind of feels like an insult to the character.Also, she's an utter tool sometimes.Bossy overbearing and sometimes, downright selfish.I mean what happened?

So maybe this is what kids are into these days, but, it doesn't mean everyone has to do it.The industry wouldn't be where it is if everyone fashioned their material after the cool thing, whether or not it was actually a good idea.There were hundreds of other ways Sega could have taken this, but, they just chose the cheap, lazy route and chose to break even rather than surpass expectations.
Now, I'll admit, I watched most of the cartoon, I haven't bought the game yet because that would mean spending money on it and it's not worth it.But I have to admit the show is a guilty pleasure of mine.It can be funny sometimes, except when they started putting Shadow and Metal sonic in there.I don't care how true to character they made them they have no place in this parody!

Come to think of it, that's good word for it.It's a parody, not the real deal.And I and many other fans wouldn't be so mad at it if it didn't seem like the way Sonic as a whole is going.It might not all be "Sonic Boom" in name, but the way Sega's going now, it just seems like this will be our future.Just like Nickonaquamagna said in one his youtube videos (don't remember which one, but check him out, he's a cool guy) about Sonic Unleashed everybody thinks this is how things will stay, so we don't hate Sonic Boom.It's a mild annoyance, but the real problem is what it says for Sonic's future

Sonic Boom was terrible. SEGA once again rushed the developer of their staple mascot to get the game done by Christmas in order to maximize profit. It was (and still is to a lesser degree) a broken mess of a game with bland and boring characters, most of them fall into archtypes, characters with one main personality trait and is then hugely exaggerated.

For all it's worth, the TV show is pretty fun to watch.

I never liked sonic boom in the first place. Why? Well the others have already said why for me so I don't need to say much. So why waste my time on something that is not worth watching? >.>

Tv show is good, yes.
Besides that, not so much. Characters are bland and uninteresting, the game is dumbed down even for a sonic game, the framerate is/was really bad, and glitches make/made the game unplayable. It wasn't even released as a complete game. It's not good. It's not that it has a couple of flaws or is misunderstood, it literally does not work at times. It is a flaw. Not a good game.

I guess how you feel about the gameplay is up to personal opinion, but it's an undeniable fact that the state the game was released in (bugs, frame rate, glitches, lack of content, etc.) is inexcusable, especially for a supposed "reboot" that only served to worsen the Sonic name.

Other than the TV show, the Sonic Boom series has been horrible, so I completely disagree. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is the worst game in the Sonic series since 06. I gave the game a chance when it came out, but then I started playing the game and saw glitches, an extremely bland soundtrack, and boring combat. The hate for Sonic Boom is justified, though I still say 06 was the low for Sonic as a whole.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for Wii U was terrible, Shattered Crystal on 3DS was mediocre, but I do like the TV show. It hasn't left me with the best of impressions, as Rise of Lyric is worse than Sonic 06 for me, but I am looking forward to Fire and Ice, hoping they can revitalize themselves with a good 2D Sonic Boom game.

Like many others have said, the TV show itself is passable, but other than that, it just takes away too much from what 'Sonic' and the franchise are supposed to be. It's an entirely new game / show, simply with familiar skins slapped over the characters. I can say that maybe everything to it isn't all bad, but it seems universally accepted it wasn't a change for the better (excluding kids who are being exposed to Sonic in this way before anything else). All in all, like many here, I miss the old Sonic and pals, and hope they tend to stick more with what he used to be, not what they're making him into with this universe of the franchise
