There is an app that is creating quite a buzz lately. It's called Peeple, and critics are calling it the Yelp for People. For those of you who don't understand what that means, Yelp is a business rating app that rates business and services by scoring and commenting those services on the site. Well, this app is made to rate people instead. The basic idea is that you can connect this app with your social media, and you can create a profile about ...anyone and anyone can rate the profile out of five stars and make comments on it. The ratings are based on personal, professional, and romance. All of this would be open to the public to see, and the idea is to help (or hurt) what people think of you at work, at personal interactions, and at dating.

Here is the website url: http://forthepeeple.com/

Here is the video from CNET report

What do you think about this? To me, this is a bizarre idea, and from how I think people are at times as emotional beings, this can be quite damaging, whether if it is damaging through hurting a person's feelings from what other people think of them, to feeling envious that you don't get more stars than other people in certain aspects. Having those reviews on there also make people think that it seems permanently attached to them. People who are emotionally unstable can tarnish another person's reputation by viewing it in a blinded point of view. I'm all for self correction and self improvement, but doing so that anyone, reasonable or unreasonable, can post about a person is asking for trouble. It should be in a closed setting and objectively controlled.

I literally just saw this less than 5 minutes ago on Bing as one of those little news blurbs saying it was the app to review people. I don't like it really, that has to be one of the worst ideas ever, and I would say that to some this could be an even more break of privacy than drones and other government stuff. Even if this works out, it still sounds very dumb.

This is such a bad idea. This shouldn't be a thing unless the minimum rating is 5 stars and the maximum rating is 5 stars. How smart do you have to be to be able to predict fake reviews? It already happens on yelp, both for good and bad reviews. It's all based on opinion as well so it's already 100% biased.

In my state, if you steal a stop sign and somebody dies due to you stealing the stop sign, you can be charged with manslaughter. If I have only bad reviews on my page and I decide to commit suicide because of it, I feel like the creator/owner of the app should be put in prison. It's indirectly causing the death of a human being.

[EDIT]: here is a link to a petition to ban this app from the major distribution methods such as the app store, I encourage everyone to sign it.

Let's Review a Human Being!

Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage is a beautiful actor. Top notch. 10/10 in every aspect. And he likes eating cake. All in all he is the closest thing to perfection. 5 Stars!

This has been a real entry from Peeple.

In all seriousness, I don't see why people thought this was a good idea. Besides the whole hurt feelings, how would you like a stranger posting reviews of yourself for all to see?  It's unbiased, means nothing, and it's all done without your full consent. Yeah, if you download it you kind of do. But at the same time, you won't know who wrote it, and you can't change anything that was made. It's a cool new way to have your reputation demolished.

It would have been borderline acceptable if the only one who has the power or the right to make a person's account is the person himself/herself alone and not just anybody else. That means if you've been attacked by the reviews, then it's gonna be partly your fault because you voluntarily made your own account. Second, if someone has the nerve to leave a review, his name should also be attached to his review, and that his relation to the person he reviewed should also be at plain sight. Third, any reviews you got should only be viewable by you and the reviewer, STRICTLY.

This is just a bad idea which I can see nothing good coming from. I don't really see the need for an app to review people, and checking out the website doesn't really sell me on the idea either.

The app seems like it would be the perfect spot for cyberbullying considering how people are allowed to create profiles about anyone and could potentially lead to emotionally unstable people getting depressed and comitting suicide. Sort of outrageous that this even got approved for the app store in the first place.
