This competition will involve 2 player teams facing off against other 2 player teams. This is the 3rd year I've hosted a teams tournament. You can find the results of previous years here:

This tournament will last for 10 weeks, 6 of those weeks being regular weeks and the last 4 of those weeks being playoff weeks. The 8 teams with the most points will enter the playoffs.

If you have a tight schedule or don't know how your availability is, don't worry, you'll be able to schedule a day and time for your matchup each week. Basically you, your team and your opponents each week will come up with a day and time that works for all of you to do your weekly matchup.

You must enter as a team, so find someone who is willing to be your teammate and let me know what your team name is but if you can't find a teammate, just let me know that you're interested in joining but don't have a partner and I'll find someone for you. Your team may contain a 3rd user, a user who will basically be one of your backups in case one of you can't participate in a matchup in any given week or someone who can fill in if one of the main players of the team is bad at a game that gets picked. The 3rd backup player isn't required but is suggested if you can find someone willing to take on that role. If you can't find a teammate, just let me know that you're interested but don't have a team and I'll add you to the list of users looking for a teammate.

Be careful on who you choose as a teammate. If your teammate doesn't show up for a matchup, then it's you against 2. If your teammate gets banned from the competition or drops out, then you have to play the entire tournament alone unless you can find someone to replace them.

NOTE: You no longer need the PlayStation item to join PlayStation netplay sessions. It also now costs 0 Viz to join a session of a game you don't "own". More information here.

We're doing things slightly different this year. The games will be grouped by system and each week a team can veto a system which means for their matchup that week, no game from that system can be picked. This will allow users to compete who are unable to do netplay for a certain system because they'll be able to simply veto that system each week and never have to worry about playing a game for it.



Requirements:
-You must live in the United States (unless you have had very little lag problems playing netplay with USA users)
-The RGR Plugin must work fine on your computer and netplay should work for at least 3 of the systems mentioned above
-You must be free at least 1 hour every week that this tournament takes place or have a backup player that can fill in for you any week that you're unavailable

Prizes:
1st = 200,000 Viz or US $100
2nd = 100,000 Viz or US $50
3rd = 50,000 Viz
(teams will share the prize)



Penalty:
If you miss more than 50% of your matches, then you'll be added to the ban list. This rule does not apply to backup players and you wont be affected by this rule if you can get your backup player to fill in for you in a week that you'll miss.



Signup ends and Tournament begins on Monday, July 6th.

Zlinqx : Those 4 systems will be the only systems in this tournament.

I'm interested in entering, although my timezone will make matchups a little bit harder to plan. This Sunday I could start testing netplay for the mentioned games and see if they work well, although I'm expecting the PSX to fail, as I'm European and I've had problems with it before.

There's one thing that keeps me from entering. I have scheduled the Windows 10 update for late July, which means in the middle of the tournament. We still don't know how Windows 10 works out, so I'm hesitant to join and then get this update not to work.

Also, it just happened that my Internet went down for the 3628645th time this year, and although it wasn't hard to solve, I wouldn't like this to happen in the middle of a match. Depending on the mood I am after the final exam I have this Saturday, I'll decide if I enter or not, either as an active member or backup.

Man, reading this makes me so sad about the fact the internet at my house still as problematic as ever (packet loss 24/7, it's infuriating...) and that my partner (Koda) currently has no internet access at all. I'd love having a good competition again someday, last time felt terrible since my internet basically ruined any chance of actually competing. I miss being able to netplay specially now that PS1 is a thing and MAME is also slowly heading that way... Sadly there's nothing I can do about it, at least not for a while longer. Still, once I have reliable internet again I'll definitely partake on it and maybe even attempt repeating what we did in 2013 and finish unbeaten (even though competition is tougher now ).


Anyways, for those people who have a computer whose specs aren't very good and thus have problems playing PS1 games well, there are a few things you can do to attempt fixing (or at least diminishing) performance issues. You can try using Game Booster (http://www.iobit.com/en/gamebooster.php) which will attempt to kill unnecessary processes to free up system resources as well as optimize your system settings with performance in mind. Also, avoid having things running on the background while you play. Things such as Skype, Steam, etc. since those will eat resources from the system. Also keep as little tabs opened in your browser as possible (preferably have only the RGR window up and nothing else). Lastly if you're using Chrome, try a different browser and see if you get any performance increases. Chrome is a well known memory hog, so if lack of memory is what's causing you performance issues, it's possible that using IE or Firefox could fix it for you.

Ok, David, you motivated me. I tested the games and they work fine, though the Turbo Grafx was reluctant to cooperate at first. Now I only have to see how much lag I have while netplaying, but that's going to take a little more time.

Right now, I'm up to be backup of any team that could be in need of one, but if netplay works fine enough I could attempt to be on the front lines. I'll try to have an answer by the first days of July.

EDIT: I only tested RGR Plugin for NES and Mednafen for all others, are these the emulators which will be used during the tournament?

Davideo7 : I'm wondering how the ps1 games are going to work on netplay, since around 90% of the site can't play PS1 on netplay. I understand the veto process, but it seems weird to include games that most people can't play.

Davideo7 : That's cool. Just in my experience most users have a hard time with PS1 netplay even just at 2 players. Haven't had much success finding enough players for 4 players without lag.
